Abandoning The Screen Pass

It's a hot topic this week here and here because of the botched screen pass that was fumbled by RB Ryan Grant at St. Louis. It was a play that Mike Holmgren's Packers ran very well, still it only worked about half the time while the rest of the time it was a near disaster. The real story is that the screen pass doesn't fool anybody now. I haven't seen any team run a successful screen with offensive lineman out front to block in a while. It can often gain a few yards, but it rarely does anything more.

Abandoning The Screen Pass
"It was a play that Mike Holmgren's Packers ran very well"...exactly.  That was how long ago?  We have a very different team now, so you can't expect the same type of execution.  This is a young team still, so the screen probably won't work out well until maybe next year or the year after.
