Packer History Lesson

Most everybody probably had trouble staying awake in history class, but this won't take too long. City Stadium was the original name of Lambeau Field, but Old City Stadium still exists, it was the site of the Packers games from 1926-1956, and is still used by Green Bay East High School.

The Packers announced that they will hold a charity fundraiser and practice at Old City Stadium on July 31. Currently the stadium only has a 2,300 seat capacity, but stadium had seating for 25,000 back in 1956. Here is a sweet old picture before an NFL championship game.

My favorite factoid about Old City Stadium was that the teams used the locker rooms at East High School so visiting teams often dressed at the hotel instead.

This is one of the coolest ideas

I have heard. Coming from Chicago but going to school at UWGB, my Chicago friends were just in awe of this. I wish I was up there for the practice. Not many teams can even do this. The last team that I can think of that did something related to this was the Green Bay Gamblers when they played 2 games at the BCA (very cool to see behind the scenes since I interned for the Gamblers, but you can defintely see why the Resch was needed).

It would be really cool if teams in other cities could do the stuff like the teams in Green Bay have done over the years. The Bears at Wrigley? Padres at Qualcomm? Those and others would be awesome to see at least once.

Play it in Wrigley

Having the Bears play a practice or something at Wrigley would be cool. It is fascinating that no stadium has hosted more NFL games than Wrigley, except it appears Giants Stadium will take over that honor soon and Lambeau will take over for longevity in 2007.
