Most Memorable Packers Games Ever???

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the site but love what I see so far and can't wait to get more involved.

A question for you though- If you were to think back over the past 30 years or so of Packers football, which individual games stick out most in your minds?  Things like huge comebacks, miraculous wins, crazy things that happened in the stands, SuperBowls, conference championships,  blunder type games (Leon Lett type things)?

Thanks guys!!  Just trying to get some insight into what makes the Pack so special to so many of us!!

One particular one stands out...

Wild-Card round. 2003. Seahawks vs. Packers. Lambeau. 20 degrees celsius. Shaun Alexander sends it into OT. Seahawks win the toss, Hasselbeck says, “We’ll take the ball and we’re going to score.” Al Harris picks him off, returns INT for a 52 yard TD.

I was on vacation on Cape Cod with my family and I vividly remember squirming throughout the game in our B & B with my Dad. I felt absolutely terrible when the ’Hawks won the toss. Then I was screaming and jumping when Harris ran it back. Just an epic game.

So unfortunate that then season ended next week on the infamous “4th and 26 play,” shiver. But that’s another story…

Christmas Day 2004

Packers vs. Vikings. Ryan Longwell wins the game on a field goal on the last play to clinch the NFC North. Happiest regular season win I’ve ever had.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Super Bowl 31

I’m showing my roman numeral bias in the title.

The fact that they were in the Super Bowl during my lifetime, I wasn’t around yet for number one and two, and they won it was unbelievable to me at the time. I had spent my life hoping the Packers could somehow find a way to steal a victory against the elite teams in the NFC, and here they were THE elite team in the NFC.

Any schmuck could have said Super Bowl 31 was memorable for Packer fans

lets get more obscure than that.

You all are forgetting something

Easily, hands down the 2000 MNF match-up against the Vikings that ended on this play. This game was especially memorable for me because my family and I had endured the first, miserable half in a Minnesota bar surrounded by unruly Vikings fans. We returned home to watch the amazing, spectacular, once-in-a-lifetime finish that provoked my older brother, not a big football fan, to jump up and down ecstatically and smash his hand on the spinning overhead fan. That, without a doubt, was the greatest GB game I have ever witnessed.

It happened during a semi crappy season though

What about the last ever NFC Central game between the Packers and Buccaneers. Down 20-14 with under five minutes left and we weren’t moving the ball a lick against the Buc’s and Allen Rossum returned a punt to the house and we won 21-20. God, it was sweet to beat the Buc’s in those days, with Sapp and Rice always yapping.

Who cares?

It was still a legendary game and is definitely the most memorable to me. Instant classic, regardless of the records. Beating the freaking Vikings in OT on a play like that? Unforgettable.

Some more:
-Favre’s miracle game v.s. the Raiders after his father’s passing
- “We Want the ball and we’re gonna score,” as someone mentioned above
- Losing to Dallas in the conference finals back in 95-96…my first Packer memory, unfortunately I also vividly remember crying as the Cowboys ran out the clock.
- The “Mud Bowl” en route to Super Bowl 31
- Obviously Super Bowl 31
- And unfortunately SB 32…I cried some more

Nobody's gonna bring up the game against San Francisco in the '98 playoffs?

that was one of the best-played games in NFL history. Yes, SanFran won with a last-second TD to Terrell Owens, but holy moly, was that a great game

Pick just one ???

There’s no way you can pick just one game, the Packers have played way to many great games for that.
Here’s a god list.

  • The Ice Bowl (however I was not alive to see it then, but seen it since)
  • Sept 20th 1992, vs Bengals (from the play #4 took over)
  • Superbowl 31
  • the Miracle in Oakland
  • Brett Favres 200th start vs Rams
  • at Minnesota in 2007, when Favre broke the TD record, half the damn dome was Green & Gold !!
  • The playoff game with Hasselbecks now famous OT quote
  • Divisional game last season, beating the heck out of Seattle in the snow.

My personal favourite:
At Lambeau, nov 1st vs 49’ers (my first trip to Green Bay)
First play of the game, Favre throws a 80 yd TD to Freeman, first defenisve play, LeRoy Butler sacks Steve Young. I think the defense had 9 sacks that , and Reggie White who had never sacked Steve Young before had 3 of them.
Don’t remember the score excatly, but it was something like 35 – 22 in favor of the Packers

Super Bowl for me

I was only 6 or 7 at the time but I got to stay up for the whole thing because I had cried every year before when they got knocked out (usually by Dallas if memory serves), and I was running around the house screaming after they won.

For games that I’ve been older for… Favre’s big game against Oakland, the game against Minny a few years back to clinch the division, and as a few have said, the Seahawks playoff game.

Yeah i cried a lot too. Damn cowboys tried to ruin my childhood.

Why

does no one mention that OT MNF game vs the Viqueens that ended on Freeman’s miraculous catch?

This has sparked a LOT of debate. I think we should narrow the choices down to 4 or 5 and make a poll…

1992 vs Eagles @ Milwaukee County Stadium

I’m partial because I was there. Favre was in his first year with the Pack. Eagles DE Reggie White sacked him and dislocated his left shoulder. The Majik Man warmed up on the sidelines. Favre continued with one limb dangling. He could only hand off to a run to the left. He brought the Packers from behind late to tie with a field goal. An overtime fumble gave the Packers a 27-24 win. Reggie said that Favre’s performance made him want to join the Packers.

good call

that was a great game. And anything that helped convince Reggie to come to GB is money in my book.

Frye is honestly gotta be one of the top 10 3rd Stringers in all of the NFL right now--colbyb
