Open Thread: Atlanta at Green Bay

Atlanta Falcons @ Green Bay Packers

Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers
Sunday, October 5th, 2008
Noon CST, FOX
This is an open thread for the game.

Inactives from NFL.com:

Falcons inactives: QB D.J. Shockley (3rd), WR Laurent Robinson, CB David Irons, LB Tony Gilbert, C Alex Stepanovich, T Quinn Ojinnaka, TE Jason Rader, DT Jason Jefferson.

Analysis: OL Sam Baker is active, which is good news for the Falcons’ offensive line.

Packers inactives: QB Brian Brohm (3rd), SS Atari Bigby, RB Kregg Lumpkin, CB Al Harris, FB Korey Hall, S Aaron Rouse, DE Jason Hunter, T Breno Giacomini.

Analysis: QB Aaron Rodgers is active and will start against Atlanta. He’s a bit of a risk due to his shoulder, but Rodgers will still be active in countless fantasy leagues. CB Charles Woodson is also active, which is bad news for Falcons WR Roddy White. WR James Jones is active as well.

The biggest news is that QB Aaron Rodgers will start. I'm worried he'll aggrevate the injury or play poorly, but the offense would be dead without him. QB Matt Flynn isn't ready and the running game hasn't done anything this season. LB A.J. Hawk will play through his groin injury, and S Charlie Peprah will get his first start as a Packer (maybe his first NFL start). You might remember Peprah was last seen as he watched Dallas RB Felix Jones run by him for a TD.

Out To Lunch

As usual, I’m off and unable to talk trash in the open thread. I’ve been down on the team all week, but it’s always exciting before a game starts. There’s no reason they can’t win. Go Pack!

Looking for a big win today everyone!!

Lets get back on the winning track.. I see Grant having a break out day today

Rather tough start..

But a lot of game still to go..

Not the best start to the game

Hopefully stopping them from scoring a second TD will turn the tables.

At what point do we give Brandon Jackson a shot at RB?

Grant has been bad this year.

thats a good question..

my feeling is that he might have had his chance if the coaches thought he was the better option..

well..

at least that is over with… now we have to play better during the next 3 quarters

Perfect Pass in double coverage...

I love that awesome pass…and I LOVE The pass action on 3rd and 1…how many people would have whined and cried if that pass would have fallen incomplete?? (oh they should have run it)

by PackFaninFL on Oct 5, 2008 12:48 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I feel like almost all of Rodger's TDs this year

have been on deep throws. Glad to see them on the board, I was getting worried.

Man 3 and out negated by Pass interference...

…on Pat Lee, the rookie…but he made a KICK ASS play and the commentators and the certainly the fans are booing that call..it was bang bang…

ugh

That wasn’t it.

If the D can find a way to stop White..

We’ll be great.. Thats the only guy Ryan even looks at

Believe...

by mkcubs21 on Oct 5, 2008 1:00 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well for those who love the blitz...

Roddy White was WIDE OPEN in the middle because we send linebackers and a DB on a blitz…we also blitz hawk on the other completion to the tight end

Will Blackmon got beat...

out physicalled Blackmon really…may have even pushed off…

by PackFaninFL on Oct 5, 2008 1:02 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

roddy white may I have pushed off...to clarify

I think the packers philosophy is that without Jenkins pressuring, they have to bring in a linebacker or safety on a blitz….

by PackFaninFL on Oct 5, 2008 1:03 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ugh..

not what we wanted after we scored a TD. Just have to stop white.. he has 115 of the 132 passing yards

Believe...

hes the only real threat through the air

They shut down T.O a couple weeks ago, you’d think they could handle him.

by Pack Man on Oct 5, 2008 1:04 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed.

good kickoff return there.. Need more points

Believe...

by mkcubs21 on Oct 5, 2008 1:05 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This is tough.

With all the injuries I’m not sure we should be very aggressive on defense.

by Pack Man on Oct 5, 2008 1:03 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Falcons

Lean heavily on Roddy White, but to be fair I haven’t seen him shut down yet. You have to get to Ryan or just absolutely blanket White to stop that connection.

by Dave the Falconer on Oct 5, 2008 1:06 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree..

just frustrating when almost all of the yards are to the same guy lol

Grant is looking a little better today.

I would still like to see Jackson get more carries until Grant is back to running like he did last year.

Good to see

Driver being a big part of the passing game today

Believe...

by mkcubs21 on Oct 5, 2008 1:09 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good to see Driver more involved this game

We have too many good receivers to be leaning on Jennings. Makes the offense less predictable.

Good half

Glad we’re on the end we’re on, but I’m still nervous as hell.

Sigh

It’s just been one of those days…

by rudi on Oct 5, 2008 1:21 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well..

Need to get some more pressure on Ryan and do a better job of covering Roddy White.. Running game needs to get a little better but this has been the best it has been since the first week. Rodgers seems to be feeling alright and its good to see Driver as a big part of the offense. The main thing i’m taking out of the first half is… It could have been worse.. only down 10 and the Packers start the 2nd half with the ball

Believe...

by mkcubs21 on Oct 5, 2008 1:24 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's still a close game

I worry what happens when other teams start throwing the book at Roddy White. The Falcons do not have a legitimate #2 to throw at a decent pass defense.

by Dave the Falconer on Oct 5, 2008 1:29 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

agreed..

and the numbers from today and the season back that up.. But on that note they know Ryan is going to throw it to him and he still gets open and finds him so it works. how does turner look in your eyes?

Believe...

by mkcubs21 on Oct 5, 2008 1:30 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Turner looks decent

Which is all we’ve needed from him so far this game. It’s when he gets shut down entirely that this offense grinds to a halt. We’ll see if they give him the ball more in the second half.

by Dave the Falconer on Oct 5, 2008 1:32 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Another bright spot for the packers...

Donald Lee showing up for this game today. Coming into this game he is been very unimpressive

We've noticed

That our opponents this year seem to have a lot of penalties. Must be our psychic powers.

by Dave the Falconer on Oct 5, 2008 1:43 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Heh

Packers have not only been generous with pens this year so far, they always seem to occur at exactly the wrong moments for us. Or maybe I’m being my usual paranoid self, of course…

Another penalty coming here

This is one ugly game we are playing, thing is if we could just get on turnover on D we could still win this thing.

We suck

And I don’t want to hear anything about Aaron Rodgers, because he’s not playing run defense, he’s not covering Roddy White, and he’s not commiting drive killing penalties or snapping balls over people’s heads.

We are playing like absolute dog crap.

When all of the receivers start getting the ball

This offense is so dangerous. Haven’t seen enough of that this year.

oh well

one possession. Lets go!

by Pack Man on Oct 5, 2008 2:05 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Grinds to a halt

When you have a premier passing offense, I think you ought to go for it. But now that they’re within a TD, I can see their logic.

by Dave the Falconer on Oct 5, 2008 2:06 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hmm

Is Rogers holding his arm as the fourth quarter looms into view going to be a theme for this year?

by rudi on Oct 5, 2008 2:06 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I like getting the 3 there..

we were going to have to get it at some point.. now get a stop and then get the 7

We're not in bad shape to win this one.

And we really need to. Just gets harder from here. Well, maybe Seattle isn’t harder, but then Indy and I think Tennessee.

I think all these injuries are just too much...

…too much too overcome the loss of Jenkins, Jennings…heck even the loss of Korey Hall and Jason HUnter probably made a huge difference…
