A Snapshot of the Seahawks from a Seahawks Fan's Perspective (Turning Into a Questions Session)
Hey everybody, I'm SSreporters, Seahawks fan, founder and writer of my blog Stupid Sideline Reporters, and someone who is going to try to be the resident visitor to the opponent's blog for the rest of the season (I started with the Giants last week sadly).
I haven't been able to watch Green Bay much because CBS just loves giving Seattle some pointless Raiders or Chiefs game, but what I gather is that your offensive line is teetering towards atrocious and running the football (or stopping it for that matter) is a challenge.
Now I'll give you a snapshot of how the Seahawks play and what you can expect.
- A good running game, but severely underused. Your pal Mike Holmgren is killing me by being "balanced" and/or throwing more than running. Julius Jones is on pace for over 1200 yards rushing, TJ Duckett you could say is playing like a poor man's Brandon Jacobs (literally, he runs over people and can't catch the ball), and Mo Morris and Leonard Weaver are very dangerous runners as well. Now that Mike Wahle is the correct answer at LG, and Shaun Alexander gone, our running game is quite strong.
- A good offensive line. After giving up 5 sacks to Buffalo's blitzes, the Seahawks have only given up 4 sacks the last 3 games, and the 2 that came against the Giants were with Senece "15 step drop" Wallace in the game.
- Pass rush. Of course they can't get to Eli Manning when the goal is to only rush 3 or 4. But at home this is a different team and they have produced 9 sacks in 2 home games. Considering GB's offensive line and the health of Aaron Rodgers, it's could be a big problem.
- Run defense. Come on, you try stopping Brandon Jacobs. Seattle has held Marshawn Lynch, Stephen Jackson, and Frank Gore all well under 100 yards with a combined 60+ carries given.
Now for the negatives:
- A joke of a secondary. I don't know what happened, but this secondary is awful. Aaron Rodgers can throw it deep all day because Brian Russell is a terrible safety, and Kelly Jennings and Josh Wilson are beaten on the big play quite often.
- No passing game. Matt Hasselbeck has thrown some poor passes (1 TD and 4 INTs this season), and the ones that are on target are dropped by stiffs like Billy McMullen. There is absolutely no deep threat so there's another plus for Green Bay now that Deion Branch is out again.
- Our playcalling. Mike Holmgren and John Marshall (our d-coordinator) are equally terrible playcallers.....not an opinion, it's fact, just look at the games we've played.
- Lack of a true special teams standout. Special Teams has been a big weak point, with our new punter Jon Ryan hitting touchbacks like he thinks he gets a point like in the CFL, and our kick and punt returners fumbling kicks at will. Also given up several long punt returns including one to Roscoe Parrish.
- Our total defense is ranked 26th in the league. Not good.
That's what I can give you, there's your snapshot, if you want to go into specifics then ask away in the comments section.
Good luck this Sunday!

Trufant
Are you surprised by his play so far this season? Is the let down in the secondary his fault, or is it more of a team failure? Just from what I’ve read and saw, he doesn’t seem to be playing to his potential. I always thought he could be a game changer, but I don’t know anymore.
He got off to a slow start last season, there were some plays where he got burned
HOWEVA, when you have no safety help then you’re touching fire. Brian Russell and Jordan Babineaux are about as useful in safety coverage as a TV in a blind man’s home.
He hasn’t been bad, but not great either.
No, not playing up to his potential……actually, not playing up to his big a** contract he just got. He can still be a game changer though, so watch out.
Signature? SIGNATURE?! Don't talk about SIGNATURE! I just hope I can write a sentence!
No, no, Trufant has been the one constant in our secondary
The Giants rarely targeted him at all last week, which means he’s doing his job. The real culprits are Kelly Jennings, Josh Wilson and, of course, Brian Russell.
I blame the economic crisis on Brian Russell.

Since injuries are always a factor,
and everyone in GB knows this, are there any significant injuries with the Seahawks? The one that I know of is Hasselbeck’s back issue (herniated disc, if I’m not mistaken). Also, I know Maurice Morris is coming off an injury, because his unavailability is what let Julius Jones break out of the committee and land the feature back gig.
So what’s up with Seattle on the injury front?
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
Plenty of significant injuries, but Hass' disc is fine, the knee however was a problem as he hyperextended it but played until he was benched when the game got out of hand.
Our top special teams returner and certainly one of our top wideouts in Nate Burleson tore his ACL and that’s all she wrote. Ben Obomanu, who I personally don’t find as a good player, was still going to be a starter but his shoulder gave out and he’s done for the season. Deion Branch has a bruised heel and is out indefinitely. Getting Bobby Engram and Koren Robinson and so on back though means Seattle is not painfully thin at the WR position.
Mo Morris only had a sprained knee and he’ll be back this weekend. Frankly, Morris is not a 16 game starter, I find him more reliable as a backup playing in the supporting cast than as someone to take the full 60 minutes. Potentially a Jones/Morris/Duckett combo that consistently works would bode well for Seattle.
Defensively no big injuries, Seattle is getting healthier and have avoided the major injury bug for 3 weeks.

You forgot a few
Matts knee is worse than I think most have expected, as he still hasn’t practiced this week. Also, our backup QB Wallace has reinjured his half and isn’t practicing either. Leaving….you guessed it, Chuckie Frye to take every single snap in practice today. Also both Kearny and Tatupu were seen wearing casts on their hands this week.
And our Biggest injury…is that Brian Russel isn’t injured :(
Russell
The Packers are lucky in that regard, they don’t have a starting player like Brian Russell who’s clearly not good enough to start. All the Packers problems are injury related.
I forgot about Hasselbeck’s bad knee, that’s been lingering for a while. Although Aaron Rodgers has a bad shoulder that won’t be 100% by next week either. This is going to be a true battle between two MASH units.
