Open Thread: Carolina at Green Bay

Carolina Panthers at Green Bay Packers, Nov 30, 2008 12:00 PM CST

Carolina Panthers at Green Bay Packers
Sunday, November 30th, 2008
Noon CST, FOX
This is an open thread for the game.

Inactives from NFL.com:

Panthers: QB Matt Moore (3rd), CB C.J. Wilson, LB Adam Seward, G Mackenzy Bernadeau, T Frank Omiyale, WR Dwayne Jarrett, WR Kenneth Moore, DT Gary Gibson.

Analysis: RB Jonathan Stewart is active, as expected. He’s a decent flex play based on the favorable matchup.

Packers: QB Brian Brohm (3rd), CB Pat Lee , S Aaron Rouse, RB DeShawn Wynn, LB Nick Barnett, LB Danny Lansanah, T Breno Giacomini, G Allen Barbre.

Analysis: WR James Jones and CB Charles Woodson are active.

S Aaron Rouse practiced all week, but the bad ankle he suffered at the end of the New Orleans game isn't healed yet. S Charlie Peprah might see some action in the dime package in place of Rouse. Lee and Wynn are hurt too, but they are usually inactive anyway.

With Stewart active for Carolina, they've got no notable injuries.

Go on without me

I’ll be out of internet range during the game. The defense better show up this week.

Last week

our secondary did its job pretty well, it was the linebackers and safeties that pretty much blew every single coverage assignment. I figure since Delhomme is playing and not an old guy not named Favre, and the same Green Bay defenders playing last week are playing this week, its gonna get ugly.

I think the Packers played outstanding...

..in the second half mostly…but, the postseason is virtually out of reach…unless Chicago wins tonight and then we beat chicago…but alot of things have to happen

well since we aren't going to the playoffs...

I hope like hell next April I hear the words “with the last pick in the first round, the green bay packers, in a pick acquired from the Jets, select….” lol

This game was a microcosm of the whole season...

the ups and downs and the yings and yangs of the “Baby Pack” lol…our whole up and down season happend in this one game…a good game though

It comes down to several Packer break-downs for me:

1. Bad coverage on two big Smith plays to the one yard line. Tramon got beat and Woodson just timed his jump wrong/fell down.
2. TERRIBLE SPECIAL TEAMS. Two HUGE returns allowed that set up those Smith plays.
3. Friggin’ running it terribly on two straight plays on the 1 yard line. Play action pass has been working all day. Maybe try that? Bad play-calling.

We can still make the playoffs

But it’s going to be mighty hard. We need Chicago to win tonight, win all of our last 4 games and then need Chicago to lose 1 other game and Minnesota to also lose one other game. Could happen, but it probably wont.
