Injury Report: |
Friday Injury Report |
| SBN Coverage: | Battle Red Blog | My Prediction: |
Packers 30, Houston 28 |
Texans: QB Craig Nail (3rd), SS Nick Ferguson, CB Matterral Richardson, FS Will Demps, LB Kevis Coley, G Kasey Studdard, OT Rashad Butler, TE Mark Bruener.
Analysis: QB Matt Schaub is active and will start, as expected.
Packers: QB Brian Brohm (3rd), SS Atari Bigby, CB Joe Porter, RB DeShawn Wynn, OLB Brandon Chillar, T Breno Giacomini, G Allen Barbre, DE Jeremy Thompson.
Analysis: RB Ryan Grant is active and will start, as expected. He’s a fine play against the Texans. RB Brandon Jackson and CB Charles Woodson are also active for the Packers.
Starting S Atari Bigby and LB Brandon Chillar are out. This doesn't help a defense that is struggling and has little depth at either position. I expect QB Matt Schaub and RB Steve Slaton will have big games and the defense will have to force turnovers to keep them from scoring.
Although the same can be said for Houston. They're missing two safeties (Ferguson and Demps) and S Eugene Wilson is playing through an injury.

Big game
This should be a win. Houston’s offense can gain yards, but they have trouble hanging onto the ball. The Packers offense should be great against poor defense that has little depth at safety due to injuries.
I'm excited either way
This starts the 4-game stretch where, with a whole ton of help, the Packers make their playoff bid.
Needless to say, this game is HUUUUUUGE.

we need health
we need everyone in their original positions and be smart

Adopted Giant: Daryl Maday - The roller coaster ride continues - Augusta to Norwich to San Jose, the latter of which has been a success so far. 1.59 ERA.
we can we are perfectly
in this game we just need to make the plays
let's go over a few things
the offense has, with the exception of an awesome drive in the second quarter, been stagnant. McCarthy is not calling enough running plays and the passing offense is not as good as it usually is.
on defense, i don’t even want to say anything. Kevin Walter and Steve Slaton are KILLING us. If it weren’t for two timely Tramon Williams turnovers, we’d be in a deep hole.
At least the Vikings are losing to Detroit. I really really really REALLY hope they’re 1-12 after this day is over.
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
agree some what
the passing game is doing good we just have to make the plays without penalties and Rodgers needs to get some composure back there
the play calling is just horrible tho
why do you make 4 good passing gains and then run the ball 3 times in a row and get stopped?
Two things I hope change...
1) they let Blackmon return the ball
2) where is Jennings? just 1 catch…that has to change…
3) We need Aaron Kampman to get pressures
2 = 3?
math is hard, i know, but still

was he holding the ball too long? Did a block get missed? What happened?
and what do we do now???

on the one hand
Crosby has a big enough leg and has hit these types of FG’s in the past…
on the other hand, conditions aren’t great and, if he misses, houston’s field position is just to good and our defense is just too bad…
i really don’t like it, but I’d punt it here
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
why the hell did GB call a TO?

setting up for another heartbreak?
4 losses by 4 points or less for the pack this year…
i'm ready for the weeping
that will inevitably follow this loss..if it ends up as a loss
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
Just not the cards this year...
and folding like a house of cards…
is it possible?
A losing home record this year? And yet another warm weather team (carolina) coming here and punching us in the face
well...
let’s see, a 5 and 11 record could netus the 8th pick in the draft, or thereabouts?
yeah the offense...and
the fact that the defense made Schaub (and his 414 yeards) look like Joe Montana and Walters look like Rice
Hard to go from expectations of 11-5
To possibly being 5-11. This team sucks. Tons of talent but they can’t put anything together this year.
this shit has happened all friggin' year
the D can’t stop jack in the 4th quarter. 5 losses by 4 points or less.
I’ll give you the play by play for all of those losses. GB gives other team the ball with 2-3 minutes left. Other team gets at least 2 20-yard plays and drives like crazy. Other team gets FG/TD with no time left.

i havent paid attention until the final few minutes
and this was the most pathetic display of FB ive seen in a while, and I watch ND every saturday. How the fuck do you have the ball at the 21 in position to win the game and end up on the 38? unexcusable. rodgers taking that sack for -9 yards was the horrendous. and the defense…houston cut through them like butter..sickening…this is not a good team right now
"stay (green and) gold"
I'd forgotten about that
We lose 10 and then 9 yards and get blown out of FG range. And who the hell calls a 3 yard pass on 3rd and like 26???

and that's game
24-21 houston
let’s face it…this year’s Packers simply don’t have it. Between the injuries at key defensive positions and the inability to get a consistent run game early in the season, not to mention the defensive shortcomings (very, very short)…
Blech. Prepare for an onslaught of Vikings and Bears fans shoving it in our face. Let us just remind them that we split with the Vikings, crushed the Bears once, and that Minny had major issues containing the 0-13 Lions.
But we need to clean up our act first. These next three games are still important, as it’s still mathematically possible for us to make the playoffs. Highly unlikely and, if it does happen, we’d end up getting blown out by the 6-seed, but still possible.
Sometimes, that’s just how it happens. Stay strong, Packer Nation. At least we’re not Detroit.
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
Was it just me...
or did the team lack passion and fire today? the teams just looked lethargic. Anyways, I was listening to some ex football player on the radio saying this is the toughest time of the year to give it your all when you know you are out of it…out of any playoff contention…to me the pack played like the…The Carolina game, was full of passion and intensity…this one? like sleepwalkiing by comparison
But some last perspective...
this team has lost 5 games by 4 points or less…so that’s almost like using 5 coin flipps in a row…I don’t think the ball will bounce the wrong way next year for us like that….but still, 560 yards or so to HOuston? WOW…first priority, we need a pass rusher…the best pass rusher in the draft must be gotten next year, someone fill in for KGB
Next we need a pass rusher from the Defensive tackle position…that’s the 2nd priority
Schaub had enough time back there to do the Sunday New york times crossword puzzle (assuming he could figure it out)
shaub's not dumb
he could do it. Give him a hard sudoku puzzle, then see if we can get a sack

true, but the offense had the ball, and could have closed this game, if they didn’t screw it up. Favre would have the experience needed to win that game. Rodgers stats are all great excpet for the most important one the “"Ws and Ls”.
The flags are definatly not helping either, but that OPI on Driver was a bad call, not enough contact to call OPI.
Two other calls that wasn’t very good, the way to qucik wistle on the catch and fumble, and they missed a holding call in the endzone on the Texans last drive, that should have been a safety.
But this game is lost on ineffectiveness on offense.
About time to fire Ted ???
I've had enough of this silliness
About time to fire Ted ???
Only if he’s out there on 3rd down giving up 10+ yard gains. This season is solely on the shoulders of the defensive coaches and the injuries to Jenkins, Bigby, and Barnett.
Favre would have the experience needed to win that game.
I am literally thisclose to moving to ban anyone and everyone who tries to bring this into the conversation. It is irrelevant, unnecessary, and has no grounds.

Don't you remember...
How the Packers won 10 consecutive Suprerbowls with Brett Favre playing defense and special teams. We never lost a game!

Freedom of speach ??
I am literally thisclose to moving to ban anyone and everyone who tries to bring this into the conversation. It is irrelevant, unnecessary, and has no grounds.
Or does that only include the people who agree with you, and is humping the Rodgers band-wagon ?
I might be wrong, but isn’t the sole reason for the existance of blogs/forums like this, the oportunity for people to express their own opionion?
But if you don’t respect people haveing a different opinion than you, then Mitchell_M, go ahead and ban me.
I think it’s only fair to compare Rodgers to Favre, since Favre is still playing, if he had stayed retired, it would be irrelevant.
My point is to rip Thompson for his missjudgements, not to blame Rodgers.
Yes, the defense could not stop the Texans on their final drive, but they also created 3 turnovers, and with the muffed punt, Packers won the turnover battle 4 – 1, but still wasn’t able to win the game.
That places just as much of the blame on the offense, they had the ball, and momentum with the possibility to score with almost no time left, but they did not execute !
The score was 21-21, if they had moved the ball and kicked a FG, Packers win.
The injuries to the defense are not the only reason for the current 5 – 8 record, injuries are a part of football, a part that teams have to adapt to and overcome. And the injuries this season is not even close to what we had in ’05.
Bernie, I don’t really see the reason for your irony, winning the Superbowl is very, very hard, and 31 teams fail to do so every year.
But, the overall talentlevel the Packers have this year, it would be a very realistic chance of winning it with Favre as QB.
Now, back to the game, when are they going to start to mix in Brandon Jackson in the running game ? that would add a much needed dimesion.
Don't worry, nobody's banning you
so go ahead and cry free speech, it won’t make a difference. It’s not worth the time it would take to ban someone anyways, but it’s really effing annoying every time someone drops a “Favre coulda done it!”
Seriously, you completely undermine every single good point you make (the refs on the offensive pass interference and the whole Brandon Jackson question, just to name two) whenever you try to bring Favre comparisons into the mix or start a “Fire Thompson” movement. Those two things are my pet peeves as a Packer fan, and I know that I’m not alone in that regard.
What are we, Philadelphia sports fans? You wanna talk about the game, fine, but just know that you’ll be treated like a joke once you bring Favre and/or the GM into the mix, because neither one had anything to do with today’s shoddy performance. Once you bring those irrelevencies into the conversation, it’s over. Your point is moot.
That all said, you go ahead and say whatever you want. Just know that if it mentions anything about Favre vs. Rodgers or replacing Thompson, I am going to come down on it, and I suspect that I’m not alone.

Favre v. Rodgers
is in essence a comment on Thompson. I don’t think there is a pro sports team that doesn’t discuss their GM. His track record is how he is evaluated and is indeed a moot point, i.e. one worth discussing.
It was sarcasm not irony.
Of course you are blaming Rodgers, unless you are referencing Brett Favre’s experience at the corner back position.

Why is it so inapropriate to critizise Thompson ? Because he’s not on the field ? I think Thompson has done several big mistakes in his job, justifying him being fired. Misstakes that could end up hurting the Packers big in the future.
surely we’re not Philadelphia sports fans, but we should still be able to critizise/discuss the front office for their misstakes.
I’ve said it before, Thompsons tag and trade of Williams, not resigning him, his failure to rebuild the offensive line, choosing Frost over Ryan, not bringing in a power RB, his outragous handeling of the Favre situtaion this summer, and I think it’s safe to say now, that Justin Harrel is a bust.
What separates the Packers, fans and orgainsation from the rest of the NFL, besides being the only small town team, is the way the fans, staff and city has treated our star players and ledgends until what Thompson/McCarthy did to Favre.
Green Bay has several challenges, like climate, being a small town etc, that might make it a less attractive to free agents and draft picks. I always saw Brett Favre as the great equalizer for those challenges, both Reggie White and Charles Woodson named him as one of the main reasons for signing with the Pack. Unfortuneatly, Rodgers is not even close to being that equalizer yet, and I doubth he will be.
By treating Favre that way, they also proved that no other player can expect to be treatet better, which will definatly not help in signing anyone.
The way Packers fans has treated our ledgends for years, however, is a big plus for anyone considering to sign.
So the fact that Favre would be a better QB in Green Bay this year, is not the worst problem, but the way he was treated and the signal that sent to everyone.
The McCarthy / Thompson “express-train to success” has taken a serious detour to looserville, only a couple of stops behind the Lions, that’s why there should be changes at the top, so the team can get back on the right track.
It is not inappropriate to criticize Thompson
He certainly has made some questionable decisions. But you saying that he should be fired is incredibly short-sighted because it completely ignores the decisions he made that helped bring us to the NFC Championship game last year. Now clearly they did not do that good solely because of TT, but by the same measure, they clearly are not doing as bad this year solely because of TT either. To fire TT or McCarthy now would be the definition of a knee-jerk reaction. To say the we are just a couple steps above the Lions is lunacy.
Frye is honestly gotta be one of the top 10 3rd Stringers in all of the NFL right now--colbyb
