Why Not Trade Rodgers?
New guy here, and sorry if this has already been discussed although I didn't see a FanPost on it.
I would think Rodgers has pretty good trade value right now, and he has that trade value based on a portion of one football game. So there's still a chance he's a dud or inury prone. You picked up Brohm in the draft. Why not bring Favre back and ask him to play out the final two years (?) of his contract while grooming Brohm?
The Pack gets a decent player back for Rodgers, Rodgers is happy in a new situation where he (hopefully) gets to start, Favre gets to play, and the fans get to watch their beloved hero for two more years. Sounds like a win-win-win to me.

If Brett had made up his mind in late March that he was coming back and not flip-flopped yet again I would have definitely advocated your position. But how on earth can you think that Brett could make a two year commitment to playing? He still can’t even commit 100% to playing this year. He’s still just thinking about it.
I do wonder what Rodgers trade value would have been but at this point its too far gone. I personally think that Brohm could be our starter in a few years anyway but I don’t think that Brett is capable of making a decision like that at all.

horrible idea
trading Rodgers now would make the organization look terrible (even though some think they look bad from this whole mess already)
Not to mention the fact that we already developed a quarterback in A-Rodg. Why throw away and start over with a new kid?
Also, I’d like to address any Ted Thompson haters out there: He built the Seattle Seahawks into a NFC contender. Anyone notice how they’ve declined since he left?
Thompson has assembled this current Packers team. I am guilty of questioning his moves in the past, but not anymore. I think the guy is one of the best GM’s in sports with an eye for talent and the consistency and determination to stick to a plan for success. You want Thompson out? Then say goodbye to any hopes the Packers have for a Super Bowl in the near future.

Couldn't agree with you more
I also doubted Thompson in his first couple of years. I blasted him for not getting any receivers in 2005 or 2006 to help Brett. I blasted him for not getting any RB’s of note and relying on an injury prone Ahman Green and going into last year with nothing at the RB position. I blasted him for not signing any free agents of note (with the exceptions of Woodson and Pickett) and relying solely on the draft. A few years later we have drastically improved the receiver position through the draft (Jennings, James Jones, Jordy Nelson) and through shrewd pickups (Ruvell Martin, Koren Robinson). The RB position is now secured by Ryan Grant who was acquired for a 6th rd draft pick. We have young impact talent on defense in the form of AJ Hawk, Nick Collins, and Atari Bigby. I was curious about the hiring of Mike McCarthy. That has turned out rather nicely too. Thompson has proved me wrong too many times and I now trust him completely.

Why?
Why do you think he didn’t get any receivers in 2005 or 2006 to help BF? Why did he depend on an injury prone Ahman Green? Why did he draft two QB’s during the draft?

Are you saying that TT was willing to sabotage the team in an attempt to get Brett to retire earlier than he did? He didn’t bring in any receivers or running backs in an attempt to push Favre out the door? Thats the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. So I guess TT was furious that his Ryan Grant trade panned out and was wishing Jennings and Jones were flops? Damn them for being successful with Brett! Come on. I have adored Brett Favre for years but he is not infallible.

Rodgers Isn't The Problem
If they wanted to trade Rodgers, they would ask for a Matt Schwab package like Atlanta got (swap 1st round picks, and two 2nd round picks) and I don’t see anyone offering that right now. I think that would be more realistic next offseason if a team like Arizona gives up on Matt Leinart, or Kansas City gives up on Brodie Croyle.
But trading Rodgers doesn’t really solve the problem. If they wanted to bring Favre back, then they could just do it and let Rodgers stew on the bench until they trade him next offseason. But Favre is 14 years older than Rodgers, and the Packers have one of the youngest teams in the NFL. The entire team is more like Rodgers than Favre, and would probably feel Rodgers got screwed. Mike McCarthy’s players might turn on him if he let’s Thompson throw Rodgers under the bus after he paid his dues over the last three seasons.
