Green Bay wins
Personally, I'm a bit surprised that Favre relented. There are two ways you can look at it: 1. Brett did not want to continue to cause a ruckus in Green Bay and left out of respect for his teammates or 2. He just got tired of the whole thing. Really, all the cards were with Favre: If he stuck to his guns, went to practice, and dared Thompson and McCarthy to do something about it, he would have put enormous pressure on both of them. Instead, he seemed to bow out and accepted a trade to a team he didn't want to go to.
At least, it's over. Even though Green Bay "wins" in the sense that they sent him to the AFC and got a draft pick out of it, there are no winners with the enormous PR hits taken by both sides and the scrutiny they will endure this season. I hope Rodgers is up to it, because in my mind the guy is just an innocent bystander.
The sad thing is that I really doubt either team will be a Super Bowl contender. The Jets can hope for a wild-card spot at best, while the Packers may be division winners but won't make it to the Super Bowl.
