Open Thread: Green Bay at Tampa Bay
Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sep 28, 2008 12:00 PM CDT
Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Monday, September 28th, 2008
Noon CST, FOX
This is an open thread for the game.
Inactives from NFL.com:
Packers inactives: QB Brian Brohm (3rd), SS Atari Bigby, RB Kregg Lumpkin, CB Al Harris, FB Korey Hall, T Breno Giacomini, WR James Jones, DE Jeremy Thompson.
Analysis: WR Jordy Nelson will serve as the Packers’ No. 3 wideout with Jones out of action.
Buccaneers inactives: QB Jeff Garcia (3rd), QB Josh Johnson, FB B.J. Askew, LB Matt McCoy, G Davin Joseph, T James Lee, WR Joey Galloway, DT Ryan Sims.
Analysis: QB Brian Griese will continue to start in the absence of Garcia. WRs Antonio Bryant and Ike Hilliard are nice fantasy options, especially with Galloway inactive.
As expected, Packers starting S Atari Bigby, CB Al Harris, and FB Korey Hall are out for this game, and rookie 2nd round pick CB Pat Lee will play in his first NFL game. Hopefully Woodson, Collins, and Rouse are all feeling good, and the loss of Harris and Bigby won't be a big deal.
If someone had said to me that Davin Joseph and Joey Galloway were the two best players on the Bucs' offense, I wouldn't have argued. They are still playing well without them, but it sure doesn't help them.

Another trip to my favorite wifi-free sports bar to watch the game, so I’ll be missing from another open thread this week. Let me know if Chris Berman fondly remembers the old bay of pigs games from the dark 1980s on the ESPN pre-game show.
I'm still trying to figure out how to watch it online
the links people gave last time were NOT working. Help is greatly appreciated.

and then the one link i did get tells me to download Adobe Flash Player 9, which I did. Then I go there again, and it tells me to download the exact same thing…again!
Very irritating. I guess I’m relegated to watching on NFL GameCast again.

Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go

i found a link that was supposed to work, and it made me download an update to adobe flash player.
i did so, and it still didn’t work.
nfl.com uses adobe flash player, and now it’s telling me i don’t have it.
very very very annoyed.

Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
it seems that the defense is holding up really well, too
at least until that illegal contact penalty on Woodson

there was an article recently
i think it was about the refs watching left tackles more closely or something. I haven’t read it but if you want to take a look:

not liking the position they were in when he gave that one up

Well
thats what Turnovers will do.. Lets get the points back offense
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
offense needs to get back into the groove
after the defense gave up the TD
I can’t see what happened (stupid internets), but based on the play-by-play, i blame this one on charles woodson. His penalty gave TB a first down, and they turned it into a score.
reminiscent of last week, when Charles Tillman was stupid, got a penalty, gave the Bucs a free first down, and TB took advantage. Woodson just isn’t as stupid, just not careful enough.

thats two penalties for him today as well..
its alright there is a lot of game left..
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
what a horrible drive
a penalty on the kickoff, a 6-yard loss, and two straight incompletions.
man, i really wish I could see what was happening so i could get a handle on what their issue is. but I don’t need to see it to know they better shape up. The offense was stagnant last week against dallas, and except for the first drive, they’ve done nothing except suck today
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
by Mitchell Maurer on Sep 28, 2008 1:00 PM CDT reply actions
agreed..
it isn’t looking very promising currently.. Rodgers has to settle the offense down and put together a nice drive..
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
it of course doesn't help
that Ryan Grant has a 2.1 YPC average.

Thats a big stop there..
They have been driving at ease lately and to hold them to a field goal on a short field isn’t horrible..
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
held them to 3
a Win for the defense, but they can only hold for so long
come on, now, Aaron. Show us what we saw against Minnesota and Detroit

Wow
Rodgers is NOT playing well
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
by Mitchell Maurer on Sep 28, 2008 1:13 PM CDT reply actions
this is why the offense is killing the team
two quick turnovers doesn’t give the defense sufficient rest, which i suspect is the reason they gave up a 4th-and-1
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
by Mitchell Maurer on Sep 28, 2008 1:20 PM CDT reply actions
but keeping them out of the endzone
is huge. keep it up, defense. Maybe A-Rodg will figure it out in the second half

by Mitchell Maurer on Sep 28, 2008 1:24 PM CDT reply actions
are they unable to protect the QB?
that’s the third sack they’ve allowed. Have we somehow turned into the Rams????
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."
by Mitchell Maurer on Sep 28, 2008 1:28 PM CDT reply actions
Sometimes it's just the other team...
No doubt the second interception was a bad pass, but we can’t see if the WRs are getting open and also, give credit to the Bucs Defense…they are good…Brooks is playing like animal…and that Defensive line is very athletic.
halftime thoughts
The defense is our saving grace; holding the Bucs to 13 points after 2 turnovers and a terrible punt that gave Tampa possession at the GB 41 was an outstanding effort. Hopefully, they can get to the quarterback and maybe force some turnovers in our favor for a change.
the offense: what is happening? Rodgers has 2 picks so far, and Ryan Grant isn’t impressing anyone either. Save for that first drive, they’ve barely gotten into Tampa territory. Unacceptable; this offense should at least be able to get within Mason Crosby-range.
"I'm so clean, cats think I sip Ajax."

Hey for as bad as that 1st half was..
we’re only down 6 points. I have faith in McCarthy righting the ship at halftime
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
yeah lucky to only be down 6...story of the game, Buc D
Don’t think Rodgers has faced a linebacker like Derrick Brooks…ever…The guy is like a hawk out there, Rodgers is his prey. Tampa is apparently dropping the linebackers into coverage…3 drop passes aren’t helping the cause either.
Anyways, when a team drops linebackers back…what is the right response? screen passes? Don’t know much about football strategy.
if a team drops linebackers
you RUN the BALL
if all 3 of Tampa’s LB’s are going into coverage, that means there’s 5 Packer O-linemen against 4 Tampa D-linemen. You make a hole and run the ball.
That’s Football 101, why the offensive line can’t do it is beyond me.

YES
I was complaining earlier that Rodgers was throwing to Jennings too much and being predictable, but this shuts me up. Alright, keep it up!
Gotta give credit to the defense
for keeping us in this one so far

I am now a member of the...
Church of Woodson…call me a Woodsonite
I love it...
Chuck woodson …handing it to Chuckie…the real Chuckie is in the house.
Hey...
INcredibly Giese only has 104 yards passing and we are in the 4th quarter…our defense has been AWESOME and we are without 2 starting in the secondary…wowsers
Our Defense has been very good today..
3 picks and the running backs have had to work for every yard today..
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
Rodgers hurts his shoulder...
…stretching out a 9 yard scramble late in the 3rd quarter…
About 10 minutes ago ...
…they announced that A-rodg’s return was “questionable”….yeah the coaching staff was ULTRA conservative with flynn, running it on the 3rd and long…
Rouse out, Peprah in...
Peprah with a big hit…we are down to 3rd string safety
FAvre the ageless wonder...
5 touchdown passes! down to under 4 minutes…Pack in trouble…
Rodgers is warming up in the sidelines...
2 27 left in the game…Packers down 2 points
well all we need is a fg
lets do this now boys..
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
interception...
game over just about…rodgers was clobbered by GAines adams as he threw
um
what just happened? NFL says Flynn threw a pick?
thats the game everyone..
graham just busted a big one..
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
shiiiiit
I didn’t see this game ending up as a loss. the schedule is too hard to lose this one. gotta get the running game going or i think we’ll be seeing a lot more games like this.
Here is what happened...
Rodgers back to throw…Gaines was on his blindside…Rogers was throwing and Gaines nailed him right in the back…a crushing shot…the wounded duck landed right in the lap of the Tampa linebacker game over…
Packers bunched the line and Graham broke a big run….
the Packers defense gambled into the middle and were burnt…but they played heroically today…the commentators think the hot hot weather finally got to them in the last drive
Also...
Gaines adams seem to be untouched…total screw up by Clifton I Think
My hunch is ...
…the pack struggles against the Cover 2…remmeber the Bears game last year? and remmeber the Redskins game last year! …they played the cover 2 too…(at the risk of sounding redundant)
And let us face it, the Tampa linebackers OWNED This game…the TEs Lee and HUmphrey were unheard from…the Pack got virtually zilch from the screen pass…
Thanks for filling me in
2-2 after four games is by no means worst case, but its not great.
Yeah 2 and 2 is probably realistic...
touchdown Earnest Graham…I think this game was close, no shame in losing to a tough physical team like the Bucs…and DAllas is simply the best team right now…so 2 and 2 seems fine with me…
looks a little better since it looks like
minny is going to lose.
Your 2008 NL Central Champs: Chicago Cubs!!! Go Cubs Go
well have a good one all.
i guess lets go get them next week..
