Mike McCarthy Interviews Gregg Williams
Gregg Williams is another solid candidate with another solid resume. When he was defensive coordinator in Tennessee in the late 1990s, he coached some spectacular defensive units. His tenure in Buffalo was undistinguished, he did well in Washington, and last season in Jacksonville was a disaster. Maybe I'm biased against him because I dislike coaches that spell Gregg with two Gs.
This JSOnline.com quote describes why we should expect McCarthy to hire Mike Nolan as the defensive coordinator instead:
"So far, no other team has expressed publicly its interest in Nolan, but that might be because everyone anticipates him getting the job with the Packers. He may be drawing interest behind the scenes.
Williams has drawn interest from the Saints and Packers. The Houston Texans were thought to be another team interested, but they seem likely to promote from within."

Anything is better
i do not like Nolans D scheme and when was the last time he had a productive Do? If Moss doesnt go anywhere i think he should be the guy but if we much hire some one not Nolan! he likes the 3-4 and we just do not have the players to run that! so anyone is better in my belief then Nolan! I do not want just someone that scratched McCarthys back so now he will scratch his. That is what seems like Nolan will be. which will not be improving our D! Also I really dont like McCarathys thoughts on the D either with NOT liking the press coverage. man to man pressing is Green Bay D has been and should be especially with the players we have! Harris and Woodson are two of the best at man and press why change it?

Players
I’m not worried about hiring Nolan. He knows what he’s doing. He wouldn’t have been hired as a defensive coordinator or head coach 4 times over the past 15 years if he didn’t know what he was doing. At the same time, I’m fine with Moss, but for some reason, it just feels like someone is going to hire him as a head coach.
Harris and Woodson are good players who would be just fine in any defensive system. You can’t hide bad defensive talent by changing the defensive scheme. The linebackers in 2008 weren’t good enough to play in a 4-3 system either, so keeping them out of a 3-4 system isn’t going to hide any inadequacies.
This offseason, it’s all about finding a good defensive coach and giving him better players along the defensive line, maybe at linebacker too.

This is only half serious
But Matt Millen has been hired at least three times over the past 10 seasons. Sometimes you get in the good ol’ boy system…and you can’t get out.

LB should not be too worried
Nick Barnett being healthy will be big and moving AJ back to OLB will help him better as it seemed he never grasped the MLB role. Chillar and Brady combo for the other OLB could use an upgrade but good make due I agree with Harris and Woodson probably play in any system but why?
The D line is our biggest problem we need to help Kamp and get some depth

Not The Answer
Barnett was healthy for nearly half he year and hawk at OLB and that did not seem to be the key for success for our Defense either. I would like to see Nolan as the D coordinator becaue of his flexiblity with 4-3 and 3-4 schemes. i wouldnt mind Moss getting the Job but i agree he will end up as a Head coach somewhere, according to reports, Oakland….sorry Winston.

I don't care
who they hire as long as the Packers are more aggressive. They were been sitting back too much last season.
