good luck to Bates

Tampa Bay has announced the hiring of Jim Bates as their new DC. Bates who  was the former Packer DC left when McCarthy took over. I think the sucessful players we have on D now owe alot to Bates. He took the Packers D  from the bottom to the top.  It was a shame he had to leave

He then headed to Miami and has rebuilt their Defense and suceeded with it. Now with a great veteran players on his defense in Tampa he can strive. I just hope his defense has aleast one bad game as we play Tampa Bay in week 4 I believe?

How is he gonna play his cover one, man to man scheme

with a team thats absolutely built to play the Tampa 2. Seems like an odd fit.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

heck, they’ve even got the name for it. A world where Tampa doesn’t play the Tampa 2 is not a world I want to live in

Frye is honestly gotta be one of the top 10 3rd Stringers in all of the NFL right now--colbyb

Agreed

It is a bit odd that they would choose someone like Bates. His basic philosophy (man coverage) would seem to run against the Tampa 2. Maybe he will try to adapt, but I doubt it.

Good analysis

From Buc ’Em:

For those worried about Kiffin’s staple of a defense getting blown up, it appears Bates has coached the 4-3 scheme the majority of his years and his philosophy resembles Monte’s in that he like the Ends to rush the QB, the Defensive Tackles to stuff the run, and for the Linebackers to be a bit undersized and speedy. The only change (and welcomed in my view) is that he likes to bump and run with his defensive backs.
