Looking Ahead: The Next Four Games For The Packers

The next four games on the Green Bay Packers schedule look very favorable.

Date Game Opp. Record Net Points
October 18 vs. Detroit 1-4 -59
October 25 at Cleveland 1-4 -66
November 1 vs. Minnesota 5-0 66
November 8 at Tampa 0-5 -72

This is the soft spot. The only team with a worse Net Points differential than either the Lions, Browns, or Bucs are the Rams at -112. The Vikings stand out like a sore thumb here since they're playing great football. But I don't think a 5-0 Vikings team is anything to fear: it's time for payback. Who doesn't expect the crowd and the team will be up for that game?

We need this!

The team needs to go out there and take care of some business! The bye came at a perfect time, hopefully we get out line healthy again and bigby back and this team can start to perform again.

Hopefully

We can go 4-0 through this strect. Detroit is improved but we should still be able to beat them as their biggest weaknesses are their lack of pass rush and pass coverage. The Browns and Bucs are both horrible, and it would be embarrassing to lose to one of those teams.

The Vikes game is obviously the key one out of the next 4. My hope is that Bigby will be playing alongside Collins, and that we’ll see that blitzing defense Capers teased us with in the beginning of the year. Our dline proved a lot shutting AP down, and Raji will only be better and will likely be playing a lot more. We’ll also hopefully have 2 weeks of a healthy amount of blitzing, and using the Lions and Browns games to see where maybe some of our weaknesses lie in the zone blitzes could be very useful for the Vikes game.

I am also hoping Tauscher will be our starting RT by then. It is worrying me that he still hasn’t signed with us yet. A week ago they were supposed to be in the final stages of putting together a contract. MM was openly in favor of us signing him, and I would have to think everybody else in the organization wants this as well. Having him and Clifton anchor the line, would be much better then Colledge and Barbre.

Another hope is that Jackson establishes himself during that 2 week period. The Rams exposed it this week, and really us, the Lions, and the Browns did before them, and what I’m talking about is the Vikes run defense. The Browns, Lions, us, and Rams all averaged over 4 ypc against them. The Rams had a lot of success when running the ball at Allen, and that is what we NEED to do week 8. He over runs so many plays because of how fast he gets up field, and if we can successfully run the ball at him it will help contain his pass rush a bit.

Tauscher Did Sign

A bunch of my friends and a bunch of people on the Packer sites kept freaking out about Tauscher not being signed yet and I kept saying it’s the bye week and they aren’t gonna pay him for a week in which he won’t play, just wait until Monday. Well they signed him today. Fans need to relax a little bit. No team is every gonna sign someone the week of the bye and pay them for no work but it hasn’t stopped folks from freaking out.

That sounded a little bit harsh. That wasn’t my intent. It was the bye week though and we Packer fans just needed to wait a bit. If they didn’t sign Tauscher this week, I would be really concerned with the thought process.

Haha

No man. I got your point, and I didn’t take it in a harsh way. But that’s a great point and I guess I never thought of that.

Other way around

Packer moral victory vs. the Vikings was indicative of impending Super Bowl victory.

These four are critical.

I feel a little better about the loss to the Bengals, they look like a real football team. In fact, their only loss is to the undefeated Broncos (another surprise).

We can’t look past the Lions, as packallday has reminded me. They are a dangerous team. They still lack some talent and experience, but are playing all 60 mins with a nothing to lose attitude. Kevin Smith is a very good back. Packers need to come to play.

I diasgree with the Vikings fan troll who has been on here telling us the Vikings game was not as close as the score. It did, at times, have the feel like it was getting away from the Pack. It did not, mostly due to the fact that AP could not do much against our defense. Had he gotten going, it would have been different. So, at Lambeau, we need to hold him check again and not give up the big plays.

These games are a good time to establish the run game, which showed signs of life against the Vikings. I think if B Jackson ever gets healthy, it will make a big difference. Wynn has showed me he is not what we need as a #2/third down back.

I feel much more positive about the team after the bye week and putting the two losses in perspective. That being said, these next four need to go well as the schedule after that is not easy.

Some people say the glass is half empty, some say half full. I say, are you going to drink that?

I Truly Believe

The next 3 games are must-wins and here’s why. If the Packers lose to Detroit or Cleveland it will be embarassing and it will definitely lower the morale of this team. These next two games are must-wins hands down. If the Packers lose again to Minnesota, I see the Vikings winning the division and I don’t think the Packers would have a wild card shot with the NFC East and South having Atlanta, New Orleans, the Giants, and the Eagles. The only way I would see the Packers having a chance to win the division with another loss to the Vikings would be if the Packes sweep the Bears and the Bears sweep the Vikings. They need to win these three unless they expect everything else to go perfect.

If Bigby and Collins are healthy, Clifton and Tauscher are healthy on the wings, and Brandon Jackson can bring the Pack something, I could see them winning the next four games. It probably will all come down to the Vikings game in the next month.

In response...

to your statement “But I don’t think a 5-0 Vikings team is anything to fear”…. I submit the following evidence:

Jared Allen sets MNF record with 4.5 sacks on Aaron Rodgers

Respectfully,

Realist

The evidence is flawed...

Jared Allen is beast no doubt about it. Should he be feared yes. But the Vikes as a whole…

Your evidence comes up a little short in that our O line is sooooo banged up, half the DE’s in the league might have broken that record Monday night. They were going up against a third string tackle not a favorable situation by any stretch.

I think the statement “I don’t think a 5-0 Vikings team is anything to fear” is a fair one. We hung in and lost by 7, on the road with a horribly banged up O’ line and a safety situation that no team would like to find itself in.

After the bye with Bigby and Collins back we’ll be able to defend the pass much better, and if I know Mark Tauscher, he still has some gas in the tank. I am optimistic we can give the Vikes a run for their money in 3 weeks. The Vikes are a good ball club, but so is the Pack when we field a first string team. Can’t wait for the opportunity to prove it in week 8.

Do they mention anywhere in the article he was playing against a converted left guard or a rookie?

Not taking away from the guy, he’s got talent but any of the better pass rushers in the league could’ve gotten a game similar to that going against Colledge and Lang.

In response to your response

Gee, you stumped us. How could anyone possibly argue with that ironclad case?

“Respectfully,”

Unimpressed

PS: I’m sure the Vikings – and Favre in particular – couldn’t possibly be peaking early in the season like they historically do. No chance of that happening.

Why waste your time?

..we’ll beat you guys again anyways. Bend over for the king of the North. Haha.

I know this has nothing to do with the Vikings but

The Packers are the only kings who bend people over.
