Packers-Vikings: Honor MUST be Restored
After what happened with a former Green Bay quarterback going to Minnesota this year (unretiring again), the Packers-Vikings rivalry has gotten very intense.
Not that it wasn't a heated rivalry before. But now, the rivalry is more hated than I have ever seen it.
Here is the point of this post. I can't count the number of times Vikings fans have come over here to belittle Packers fans. Since I have not checked Daily Norseman, I can not say if the same things have happened over there.
I believe in sportsmanship. The way comments have gone lately between Packers and Vikings fans has to change course. I understand why people can be angry about the quarterback, but the comments need to stop being as trollish as they have been.
I will continue commenting about the Packers and Vikings. But I will not make any trollish comments regarding those teams.
Lastly, I have not joined Daily Norseman, nor do I intend to do so. To any moderate Vikings fans from Daily Norseman: have you had Packers fans over there trash-talking?

Hey.
Let’s keep this to football.
What exactly does this comment have to do with what I said in this FanPost?

Very little I can do about it at this point.
I knew something like this might happen on this site given the mutual dislike between Cubs fans and Brewers fans.

I haven't seen a lot of Packer fans trash talking
they’ve had a lot of intelligent things to say
Bears fans are a different story, however

Reaction:
A lot of the trolls are the “new bandwagon” types that will fly over here. They don’t know much other than they got Rod Farva on their team and he wants some liter cola.
The real Vikings fans may jab at Packer fans, but they won’t come over to gloat. I go to the DN, and only a few Packer fans from the threads I read were trollish. Most are usually pretty helpful like TSSC.

make comments about football, share your opinion.
but don’t rub salt in open wounds and don’t pick on Viking fans because they have never won a Superbowl and have never had a great franchise and can barely sell out an entire season and have to borrow Packer players because they never have had great players.
That isn’t their fault, life is unfair.
They do have long pretty hair though, so that is cool.
NOTE: this is meant to be funny, I really do enjoy the discussions with educated Vikings fans. I am also glad that they are now getting some understanding of why Packer fans love (or used to) Favre. They couldn’t understand it before.
Now they need to understand why some of us are so upset about Favre on their team!!

if they don’t want to be made fun of for having poor judgement for liking a monumentally shitty organization then they should all become packerfans. it’s not their fault? many Germans were born under a Nazi regime but refused too follow. don’t give them a pass. minnesota was once part of the wisconsin territory and we want it back- they have no right to exist and that’s that. whoa- you’d think I was born an extremist! get my point? football is one thing. it’s ok to be intolerant of their fans coming here just to needle us. you don’t see bills fans doing it. now, maybe that’s cuz there are no bills fans- if there were, they could go to the daily norseman to share stories about what it’s like to lose 4 superbowls!

if they don’t want to be made fun of for having poor judgement for liking a monumentally shitty organization then they should all become packerfans. it’s not their fault?
So I guess you would be in favor of some sort of early indoctrination movement in Minnesota where schoolteachers would recognize that the Vikings are a “monumentally shitty organization” and teach the kids to be Packer fans?
Football fandom, like any other sports fandom, is largely shaped by geography. I was born in Milwaukee, therefore I grew up watching and learning all of my sports from that perspective. If I were born in Detroit, I’d be a fan of the Lions, Tigers, Pistons, and probably the Red Wings.
(Sidenote: if the NHL ever becomes a functional league, they need to put a team in Milwaukee. The Admirals get really good support there, and there’s a significant hockey fanbase as well.)
Also, comparing sports fans following a team to the political situation in Germany between WWI and WWII is laughable. Sure, people refused to follow the Nazi movement. But it’s not like the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS were there for entertainment.

NHL tickets are too expensive, at least here in Minnesota
$24 a ticket (Cheapest one, $98 most expensive) $25 for parking, $7 for a beer, $5 for a slice of pizza. I know most non baseball sports are as expensive if not more but football only has eight regular season home games a year compared to I believe forty one in the NHL. I’ll just stick to college hockey until I graduate.

Please come back to us. I think you’ve gone completely off the deep end.
Vikings fans are people, too, even if we think they’re crazy for liking that team. In fact, I have many friends who are Vikes fans, and every one of them is normal in every other way—and for the record, all but one of them are fans of the Vikes because they grew up in Minnesota.
Lighten up, and please stop trying to incite a riot.
(Note to the bosses: Sorry if I’m exacerbating this problem, but I couldn’t help myself. Comparing liking a sports team to supporting Dahmer? Wow. Just wow.)

by Acme on Oct 23, 2009 1:11 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
We have plenty to worry about through this season
Will players stay healthy? To give you an idea of this, few people noticed when Winfield left the game last week (though the Ravens Offense sure did after Benny Sapp went out as well), but the second Peterson went down, the entire place got deathly quiet.
Will Brett’s arm last the season? Currently, in games where we’ve had a good lead over a bad team, most of the starters generally hit the bench in the fourth quarter. I see it as a preventative measure to keep the players healthy, and it’s a good idea.
Will Childress be brought up on charges for child abduction? C’mon, just look at him. You know that NBC has an “interview” with him done by Chris Hansen.
If ‘98 taught us anything, it’s that no season is a lock. I would be happy getting through October with two wins, and we’ve already got them. Any wins for the rest of the month are just an added bonus.

Daily Norseman is a good site
I find that whenever I go over there with a legitimate question, I am always met with honest and thoughtful (if not a little biased) responses. Sure, they give me crap sometimes, but they do it jokingly and it makes the rivalry that much better.
Of course, some of them take me too seriously and accuse me of trespassing, but we have our own contingent of that here.

I can’t count the number of times Vikings fans have come over here to belittle Packers fans.
I think you may be confusing “belittling Packer fans” with “belittling the idiocy of Ted Thompson in his personnel handling, and destroying the once-solid foundation of yoru franchise.” Separate those posts out by DN folks and I think the posts will be a LOT easier to count. Also, can’t exactly say it’s just DN folks posting that over here.
To any moderate Vikings fans from Daily Norseman: have you had Packers fans over there trash-talking?
Sure. “I love bart starr” even just posted something trashing “Deanna’s [sic] boobie thing” (presumably the breast cancer fundraising she does?), among other things.
I defy you to come up with anything more pathetic than that posted by a DN member here.

I don't expect you would care what I think about Favre.
Never thought you did. If R4F does what he does for laughs, then you’re probably right. If he means most of the stuff he posts, he’s no better than the others. I haven’t read (or seen a link to) the comment under discussion here, but I wouldn’t put anyting past R4F. If you disagree, that’s cool with me.
I do think I’m going to change my tag line though. It seems to get the Viking fans I encounter angry, and that really wasn’t my intent.

Frankly, I can’t even put up with his barking. My only point is talking about someone in a derogative manner when they had a potentially life threatening illness is as low as it gets. I have seen a LOT of R4F barking but never anything vicious or anything like what was referred to above.
BTW, no need to change your tag for me. You just set me off on the “I think I am being fair” comment." which in this case isn’t even close.

There is no I in team. I will wage a bet that the Packers finish with a better record than the Vikings based on the fact that You Pricks have yet to beat a good team on the road!!!! I am not and will not go on saying that my team with a new 3/4 defense in it’s first year will win the Superbowl. But I will say one thing… I have watched in my 45 years of watching Packer football IN GREEN BAY is that preserverance and teamwork win the majority of games. Gee Thats how we won countless championships and 3 Superbowls. Not because of one man but as a team.
