what to with jersey # 4

not taking anything away from the great Brett Farve but as a packer fan of over thirty years and living so close to Minnesota the biggest let down of his career was joining the Queens. The man has always been a joy to watch play his game. But I feel he betrayed the fans and the franchise by joining the Queens. I feel because of this the # 4 jersey should be given to a rookie Quarterback and when he Passes away then retire the Jersey.

i like what a radio station in GB is doing...

they are having a funeral. Dressing a manikin up in purple Favre gear and actually burying it. They are also doing it for a good cause. They are asking people to bring Favre memorabilia and they are then selling the items, the profits go to Deanna’s breast cancer foundation

Seems kinda childish to me

But whatever.

They way things are going with the more rabid fans, I’m starting to wonder if maybe Favre hopes he never has to come back to Lambeau for a retirement ceremony. The NFL HOF will undoubtably stamp the guy’s greatness, ont he first ballot. If Packer fans want their organization to look petty and pathetic even after that statement, then I guess that’s their business.

I agree with you here

It wouldn’t be right for us to give his jersey to a rookie. I can understand how you may feel betrayed packerbacker, but letting another play wear his jersey # would be pretty disrespectful to him.

sell it?

Keep it and sell it in years to some collectors since they will be harder to find then.

Right...he betrayed you

by bleeding green and gold for 16 years and winning you a Super Bowl. That betrayal must run red hot huh…… Grow up.

Sadly I agree with the Viking

Seriously, Ted had 2 opportunities to bring him back. 1st time around, he sent him to the jets, 2nd time around, he let him go to the Vikings. The fact is that at this point, Rodgers is a better QB. If you feel betrayed by Brett, point at Ted first and ask him why he let brett go.

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

The second sentence is answered by the first sentence.

gee thanks

we haven’t had an outsiders opinion on this before. wonder if your opinion could be biased at all?

So wait…

You feel that Favre betrayed you because TT wanted to go with Rodgers instead of Favre and then Favre came to Minnesota?

Favre did what any of us would do in his situation. He got an offer from a team that gave him the best opportunity to win another Super Bowl and he accepted it.

If you hadn’t let Favre go, Rodgers likely would not have resigned with the Packers when he became a free agent. So you would be stuck with Old Man Winter and Rodgers would likely have gone to the team that gave him the best opportunity to win.

The Vikings would have looked mighty tempting to Rodgers at that point. Think about it, the best RB in the league lining up behind him, a young group of talented recievers, a solid defense and an offensive line that is serviceable.

So ask yourself, would you have preferred that Favre stayed?

by Bjorno on Oct 31, 2009 1:57 PM CDT reply actions

It's waaaaaaay more complicated than that.

But it’s also not really worth talking about.

As for me, I can answer your last question with a no.

It always is more complicated. We, as fans, never have the full story. Only what is reported to us.

The bottom line is that if you had resigned Favre, Rodgers likely would have gone elsewhere. Your team made the right decision, and Favre did what any guy who loves to win would do.

again, thanks

for an outsider’s opinion. can you tell me how i should feel about other things in my life too that you can’t understand? thanks

What is it with you and this “telling me what to think” crap?

Can’t a person come to your site and at least attempt to have a discussion about something without you complaining about people telling you what to do or think? The entire purpose o SBNation is to bring fans from different teams together so we can further our understanding and enjoyment of the sport that we obviously love.

People like you are always on the defensive, assuming any person with a different opinion or view is just trying to change you somehow.

Pull your head out of your ass and have a conversation for crying out loud.

I'll let this pass.

He’s still my favorite football player of all time. He’s the reason why it was easy to be a Packers fan in Chicago. I bought a new jersey for the packers games i went to this year for cheap and ill deface one of my jerseys with tape. Once he retires for good, my Favre jerseys will be busted out forever.

Favre wanted out

Favre wanted out of Wisconsin, all the fans were driving him nuts. I heard a story of a packer fan breaking into his abode and playing with Brett’s feces like play dough. Gross

So making stuff up is the only thing you can come up with?

I could make broad generalizations about a fan base as well, but I won’t. Just say something intelligent for once.

That was me

But in my defense, I was really high and I actually thought that it was play dough. Although, in retrospect, the fact that said “play dough” was in a toilet should’ve raised a red flag.

This is perspective in it's finest form

This is written by a Packer fan – a very smart person IMO.

Brett Favre handed Packer fans the only Super Bowl win they have ever had since Vince Lombardi. He is one of the greatest, if not the greatest football player to ever play the game. He is fearless, he plays hurt, he leaves it on the field every week, and he is a Green Bay Packer Legend in every sense of the word. If I remember correctly, Vince Lombardi left the Packers and served with the Redskins or somebody for a couple of seasons before he retired. Green Bay still adores Lombardi as does every real football fan. Brett Favre will be the same. My fellow cheeseheads will ultimately look at the Jets and Vikings sagas as just footnotes to Packer lore and legend, even when Brett does lead the Vikes to the Super Bowl win they have always sought. They deserve it and so does he. Quit beating up on a football hero and just sit back and enjoy the drama and thrills he brings to the game. Can you imagine how boring it would be right now without him? Like it was for years after we lost Dale Eanrhardt until Tony Stewart became an owner this year. It will be a long long time before you see another Brett Favre so you better enjoy it while you can. They only happen every 30 years or so.

When it’s all said and done, the world will remember him fondly as a truly great Packer player.
