"The Best Team I've Ever Been On"
So Brett Favre is saying some nice things about his new team, and some of his old teammates disagree.
Maybe someone really is upset by something ex-Packers TE Mark Chmura said.
Maybe someone still cares what ex-Vikings QB Fran Tarkenton said earlier this year.
All I know for sure is that this story is currently among the top 5 sent articles on ESPN.com, so I'm sure they enjoy getting the internet traffic. As you can tell from my tone, I don't think all this talk is a big deal. Is any of this something to get bent out of shape about?

The talk is pointless
they only way the can be as good is if they win the superbowl…who cares about stats? 32 teams start the season with one goal and only one team will fulfil their goal.
espn blows the biggest ball sacks in the world, i hate them.
ive been a fan of rodgers since he went in against the cowboys. that was the first time i’d ever seen rodgers play, and when the game was over i remember thinking that i was cool with favre retiring because i knew we had a stud ready to take over.
now, im not a favre hater, and i know that i never could be, nor ever WILL be. in fact, its going to be nearly impossible to oust him as my favorite athlete of all time (im 22), but i hope we beat the fuck out of him and his purple fucking team.

Gonna back up my fellow White Sox fan Boe
…even though I’m more than twice his age, and agree that Brett Favre is arguably the best QB my beloved Packers will ever have had. But Bart did win 2 Super Bowls and other pre-SB championships, and Aaron sure does look like the real deal (and how many teams go through QB after QB before finding someone even approaching the ability of Aaron Rodgers?) so even that’s debatable. But one thing that’s not subject to debate: Brett Favre was a truly Great One for the Green Bay Packers.
But all that said, when Favre decided on a anti-TT vendetta after keeping Green Bay on hold with his retirement melodrama season after season, it was tantamount to a betrayal of the Packers and Packer fans. So this week I not only want the Green and Gold to kick Viking ass this week (this never changes no matter who’s taking snaps on either team), but also to send Brett home a loser and have the Packers nipping at the heels of “the best team he’s ever played on” in the standings.
He’s being an ass right now and deserves the wrath of Packer fans, just as he deserves our cheers and respect when he finally does retire and we retire #4.
Best game I ever attended was the 163rd game last year.

Every time Brett talks
It becomes easier to pity him rather than hate him. He keeps throwing away things that he will miss after he stops playing for the final time.
Interesting way to look at it.
He is burning bridges left and right. This was a very dumb comment. Not only can you prove it by looking at statistics, they actually won a SUPER BOWL. There is no way you can compare the 2009 Vikings to that 1996 Packers team and be serious about it. Didn’t think people could start going senile at 40…

OMG
Reading the DN is hilarious. I still can’t believe how confident Vikings fans are that they’re destined for the Super Bowl this season. Do any of them realize that having Brett Favre is not the key that unlocks the Super Bowl, it’s a good piece to have but come on. In what 17-18 seasons the guy has won one Super Bowl and of those seasons he has been on a great team in about 6 or 7 of them.
Wytefang said the Vikings are better in every area and tied at QB and WR’s. I guess he didn’t consider the fact that with a healthy Bigby, the Packers might have the best secondary in the league and the Vikings even with Winfield have one of the worst. Those guys are so drunk off of the purple kool aid that I don’t think Jesus (the actual one not Favre) could convince them that there is a chance they won’t win the Super Bowl. They keep saying how the Packers schedule has been so easy also when they had an extended pre-season with the Lions, Browns, and Rams as well.
All I hear is how the Steelers game was stolen from them and they should be undefeated but they always fail to mention the 49ers dropping 4 interceptions that would’ve sealed that game and the Ravens missing a field goal. They could be 4-3 as easy as 7-0 right now. I’ve never wanted the Packers to win as bad as this Sunday in my life. Please fulfill my desire.
???
What was their reasoning for being better than the Saints?
O' Lord
Some of them are so delusional. I know I’m preaching to the choir but they’ve played their easiest games on the road: Lions, Browns, and Rams. They’ve played their toughest games at home: Packers and Ravens, and their loss is to the only good team they’ve played on the road. I would’ve added the 49ers to the mix of tough home games but the 49ers especially without Frank Gore have proven to be a terrible road team (exhibit A: getting killed by the Falcons 45-10).
The Saints on the other hand have played only one dud, the Lions, and have beaten the Eagles in Philly, the Dolphins in Miami, the Giants and the Jets. With Favre at the helm, Vikings fans are becoming as delusional as Bears fans.

hahaha
they haven’t played anyone! nor have they really blown anyone out yet. They can’t seem to play a complete game. NO has blown out just about everyone they have played and if they stop the pass they run all over them. Its pretty amazing really. They look like the Vikings and Colts teams from earlier in the decade.
the must listen
to too much PA on KFAN cause it sounds like exactly what he was saying. I literally haven’t listened to his show since early in the week when he said that. I refuse to because he lacks the ability to be objective and to acknowledge ANY weaknesses on the team. ridiculous.
new team
whats brett gonna say?" ah well this vikings team is good but not as good as the super bowl team i played on with( an arch rival) packers ( heres your sign) .that would really sit well with current team and the viking fans!!!!! the only good thing about brett still playing is at least we dont have to hear to many stupid commets from oocho stupido in cinncy.we get of them from brett
Um, he could just say this Vikes squad is solid but has a lot left to accomplish and leave it at that.
Ya know, and just leave out the whole declaration that they are “the best team he’s ever been on”.
I don’t think that would have offended any fans or teammates, past or present.
He's said
stuff like that repeadetly over his career though. He also called the 2007 Packers in pre-season the best team he’d ever been on. I guess one thing you can take away from his comments is that if he says it, the team will probably have a good year.
What's even more interesting........
Is that I’ve read on this board many times since this season’s Favre saga began about how he’s “burning his bridges” with Packer fans and how he’s “going to be sorry” later on when he realizes what he’s losing after he stops playing…….
But why SHOULD he care? Maybe Packer fans have “burned their bridges” with him. He’s human. He and the people around him read and see what’s out there. after hearing the vitriol that’s coming back from Packer Nation, why would he feel anything but disregard and anger toward them? Maybe in his mind if Packer Nation has disowned him, he’s disowned them.
Again, reading anything like this smacks of someone who just can’t let it go. “He’s going to be sorry”. “He’s burning brdges”. How about “He doesn’t care”. Let it go, people.
So now the new issue is that he feels like this Viking team is better than any Packer team he’s played on. Seeing as he’s actually PLAYED on the teams, maybe it’s the way he really feels. Maybe he doesn’t care enough about Packer Nation anymore to say something that’s done specifically to “hurt” you. Stop taking everything so personally with the man. LET IT GO.
Sad, really.

uh
He got the same reaction in 2007 when he said the same thing about that team. Its a stupid comment to make. Either he is really dumb at times when talks or he is really clever in trying to give a boost to his current teammates and piss off others. In this case he is pissing off all the guys on the 1996 team that HELPED HIM WIN THE SUPERBOWL. Yeah he didn’t do it alone. Being a dumbass can cost you votes for the HOF, it can make teams change how they remember you (meaning jersey retiring and stuff), and it changes how fans perceive you. He’s really coming across as a douche to most of the US except those who are swinging from his junk and those in MN. Check the pulse across the US on him, people are sick of him in the media and they are sick his comments. The only ones who love the comments are the media who just keep using him for headlines.
I just wish he’d stop with these kind of statements and just play the game. You don’t have to be the headline EVERY week.
Sad, really.
Headlines or not............
People would still be writing about the man because of US. Me and you. The people with the water cooler opinions and the far, far too-much-interest on the subject. They’ll put out every sound bite like it’s Churchill on the BBC talking to the Brits on the eve of WWII because they know hurt feelings Packer Nation will be all over it. They’re not playing the man, they’re playing YOU.
And where is all this “across the US” sentiment coming from? Because ESPN can put up a “poll” and get plenty of angry and frustrated Packer fans to click their mouse and cast a vote? If you’re really buying in to ANY poll, one way or the other, you’re really lost.

You make it seem
like it’s others who won’t get over the Favre saga but you mention it just about everytime you post as well. You defend the guy like he’s your son sometimes. As people have said on here before, Favre’s a big boy and doesn’t need to be defended.
Why can’t people have the right to hate the man for going to the Packers hated rivals? Why can’t people have the right to love the man for how he plays on the field? I don’t mind peoples opinions as long as they’re based around some semblance of truth. The problem with a lot of pro-Favre fans is that a lot of what they spew isn’t based around the actual events that happened. Like who you like but do it knowledgeably.
The only person I’ve ever felt that I needed to defend was Rodgers because of the way people treated him last year when he had nothing to do with it. That was just ridiculous. “The things I can’t understand, the things I really take personally, is when I’m punching in my punch code and somebody says, ‘(Expletive) you’ to me,” Rodgers said at the time. “That kind of bothers me. Or when a little kid is yelling swear words at me. That kind of gets to me. The boos, they expect a high level of play and they miss Brett Favre. I understand that. But the ‘(expletive) you’ and the little kids saying swear words to me? I don’t understand that.”
eh not really.
I don’t read the Favre articles now. I don’t really care. The only one I’ve read this week was on Fox and Marvez was telling Packer fans to “give it a rest”. I laughed OUT LOUD since the media is the one who keeps it going. The only place where I read about Favre is in this blog. Other than that I don’t read an article about him or join in on a discussion.
Believe it or not, he’s my backup on my fantasy team…and I might even play him this week. Team name is Favre’s Waffle House…he’s my mascot and backup QB!
"LET IT GO"
intones the poster who can’t stop coming here to attack any Packer fan with an opinion he doesn’t find palatable.
No.
I’m just a guy who finds blind hate and excuse making (either way) non-palatable.
And as far as “attacking” goes, if you consider what I wrote an “attack”, a thicker skin might be in order.

Dude,
you just wrote a four-paragraph clinic on “excuse-making”, defending Favre’s idiotic declaration that the 2009 Vikings are the best team he’s ever played on.
As far a being “just a guy who finds blind hate and excuse making (either way) non-palatable”, I’d say a little more self-awareness is in order.
Yes, I agree.

You didn't say you were, I said through your usualy condescending posts (Like the one where you talked about how sad we all are)
It’s the demeanor of those posts that gives me the impression you think we’re all a bunch of midwestern country bumpkins who can’t let go of one of our pigskin heroes. That is what I was talking about. Anyways, don’t read into the intelligent thing so much, because I don’t actually think you are, I just think that YOU think you are, Anyways, we’re getting off topic here and I’m tired of this conversation.
by Charlie Kelly on Oct 29, 2009 1:30 PM CDT up reply actions
Tone, man
you gotta check your tone. I can’t believe no one’s told you up to this point that you are very condescending in your posts. And then you have the gall to get upset when others respond to your posts with their own exasperated condescension.
It’s a vicious circle that begins with your haughty, know-it-all posts about shit you clearly don’t know much if anything about.
You know, you can share your insights without attaching all the “let it go, you sad little bitter cheesehead”- type stuff and I guarantee people like myself will respect your opinion as your own even if we disagree.
I agree completely
If you weren’t constantly filling your posts with little insults at us like calling us sad or telling us to let it go, I wouldn’t consider you such an insufferable prick and I would find your opinions completely legitimate. Truth be told, aside from our little arguments like this one, I don’t mind most of your posts and you can be a funny guy at times.
by Charlie Kelly on Oct 29, 2009 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions
You don’t need to say it because it’s evident in the way you post. Like Kelly stated, everything you post is in a condescending tone. You try and rip on those of us who don’t like Favre as a result of what he did, but you defend him like he is your best friend. Your not a Packers fan, and you really don’t seem to understand or see where any of us are coming from when we talk negatively about Favre. But I can’t say I would expect you to seeing as you haven’t followed the team as closely as many of us have our whole lives.
Just keep in mind we all liked Favre just as much as you, and likely more so. It’s easy now for Vikings fans to defend him because he is on their team but I get the feeling that many of them wouldn’t feel he was “screwed” if he wasn’t there starting Qb. It’s telling that most of the Packers fans I know, and most of the Packers fans on this blog feel that Favre was in the wrong.

Sooner or Later Favre will be Favre
Remember back in 02(?) was it after 4TH AND 26!!! Philadelphia tied us and we won the toss. Sweet! Favre swings out to the left has a Packer in front of him and could have ran and slid for a first down. Instead he throws it down the field and it flutters like a dead duck into an Eagles’ hands. McNabb runs them in range for a field goal and we sit at home can’t believing our defense choked on 4TH AND 26!!! Forgetting that Favre lost the game for us. Favre will be Favre and do the same thing sometime during the playoffs…depending on what the Viqueers do the rest of the season and make it to the playoffs. Favre might be Favre early and leave ’em all sitting at the house!
THE FIRST RULE ABOUT PACKER CLUB IS YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT PACKER CLUB.
The second rule about Packer Club is that you don’t talk about 4th and 26!!!

Brett is a good guy but either he has taken a lot of shots to the head or his memory is fading in those golden years if he doesn’t recall the SuperBowl champion Packers team he was on.
And I blame Holmgren
for not winning a second SB with Favre versus Denver. He had his GM+Head Coach Seahawk God bags packed (and how did THAT work out worldchampionwise Mike?) well before the game, made some bad choices on active/inactive so no depth after injury hit the D-line and failed to get the troops motivated and hungry enough to beat an even hungrier Elway and the Broncos. It should have been a two year Championship repeat team talent wise in my opinion.
