Without He-Man Matthews we'd be down 21-7.
We need to get another turnover in the 2nd half, and we need at least 3 touchdowns I think.
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.
Wow, another thread?
How many are we going to need for this game?

Favre or our defense
I mean, the guy has made the passes, but we’re not exactly talking “Threading the needle with 3 guys hanging off you” Favre here.
This is getting ugly fast. We need a drive.
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.

Though you can't expect him to cover someone for 12 seconds.
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.
In addition to Plax owning him in the 2007 NFC Championship
he gets continuously abused every week. Playing way out of position being a hard hitter who is ridiculously slow. Maybe he should be the one playing for Bigby at SS, with his awareness, lack of speed, and good tackling ability.
I am thinking, what are you doing?
When’s the last time you saw Harris make a really amazing play? He’s been terrible since Plaxico had a field day with him.
Tramon Williams is a better zone corner (which is what we’re playing now with the 3-4) Harris is getting by on his rep. on being a great man to man.. He may still be (although he is way too slow for my liking) but Al is not a fit for this D right now, from the looks of it.
He is very good in run support though, which is valuable.

Harris and Martin have a conversation...
after that play. Need to make some adjustments in the secondary. They are really missing Bigby.
Somebody mentioned that they rushed Favre and gave up a play on a short route
The danger of NOT doing that, however, is that you don’t have enough push-power to penetrate the pocket.
The result was that even though the play broke down, the receivers had an eternity to ad-lib.
Just no defense really.
The biggest weapon on any football team isn’t the QB or the RB -
It’s the Front Line.
Yeah -- I'd say "go for broke." You've got to get BF off his spot.

Harris wiffed on his bump attempt. If you go for the bump, you have to land it. Otherwise you end up 5 yards behind the receiver.

Rodgers looks like he’s constantly making something out of nothing…while Minnesota’s best pass rusher (Allen) is after him on every play.

I’m a Giants fan, so you know my answer.
But you’re not playing against the NFL or the Giants.
And the only Front Lines in contention tonight are the two on the field.
I liked the spread formation
but I was hoping for a QB draw

There has to be stats on this somehow but one huge difference I've noticed between Favre and Rodgers
is that Favre is just incredible on third down. I always remembered watching Brett growing up that I was never worried if it was third down, whereas with Aaron I’m a bit more nervous.
i trusted aaron last year
but this year, he doesn’t trust his protection. HUGE difference.

Another way of looking at it:
Is the Packers defensive 3rd down effiency, which is middle-of-the pack.
The problem is that you’re one of the worst in converting your own 3rd downs.

Eli (little Manning) ...
..used to tense up and pull the ball in whenever he felt pressure.
The result was that he’d pull the ball into his body.
Now he’s learned to reflexively just cock and throw it away.
Might take a while before Rogers learns that risking a sack isn’t worth keeping the play alive.
Rodgers holds on to the ball too long

The 2001 Pats, maybe?
NO TEAM that gets far in this league does it with a horrible offensive line. And I’ll bet those teams that get by with worse talent also have a much easier schedule. The three team race in the NFC North ensures that won’t be the case for us.
I agree
At this point, it wouldn’t really matter who we would have at QB. If the line is a sieve, the pass and run gets shut down.
I liked their strategy coming out early with the short passes and screens, but you can only do that so long when you are down.

What a heart breaking game.
So many lost opportunities. That first drive game me hope, and we lost a fumble. We drove well on them in the first half, but could not finish. We can play with these guys, and that is saying a lot. They are PACKED with veterans and pro-bowlers. We have the youngest team in the NFL. I’m not saying this is a moral victory, because it is not, in any way shape or form. But we can play with these guys. Our defense needs to man up, and our O-Line needs some fresh thinking and fresh bodies. Otherwise I was expecting this.
And I do NOT, in any way, miss Brett Favre. Rodgers played his heart out.

young vs old team
we could have a few pro bowlers and vets if we’d just sign them instead of drafting busts and average guys. the vikes have AP and Harvin as young guys, those 2 are as good or better than any 2 of our young guys.
AP yes, but that is a captain obvious statement.
Harvin, no.
We have lots of good draft picks. I’ll take Finley over Cheech Harvin any day of the week.
I always loved that one.
Signing vets doesn't guarantee anything
The Vikes and Redskins have been signing big name players for a while now yet neither of them have a playoff win to their name. The Steelers, Giants and Colts built primarily through drafting, and I don’t need to explain their success.

they draft better
those teams all draft much better than we do. if we’re going to keep drafting instead of getting ANY free agents than we need to hit on some polamalu’s, freeney’s, woodley’s, etc. and it sure seems like the vikes getting favre and allen is paying off.

That’s because Favre has burned your team for decades going back into the 90’s. Last week’s miracle could not have gone against a more deserving opponent than the 49ers. But its more personal for you, because it was the Packers that were the ones that owned the 49ers, but now that a certain player isn’t a Packer any more you’re rooting for the team that has given you such misery. Crazy how shit changes huh?
Couldn't you say the exact same thing for Viking fans?
Except instead of continuing to a hate a player who gave you misery, you’ve all now embraced him as your savior.

I’ve always liked Favre. And most importantly I’ve always respected his ability. Even though he wasn’t on my team. Unfortunately for your team, your team and Teddy took his skills for granted and kicked the future HOF’er to the curb let him leave.
The funny thing is you guys are all acting like Rodgers is the next Brett Favre, and he’s not. Not even close. Yeah he can connect on a long bomb, and so can Kyle Orton…big deal. Rodgers does not have the leadership abilities to take your team to the next level, or in other words he does not have the ability to will his team to a victory. Even when Rodgers makes multiple mistakes as he did every game so far this year, reading the game thread comments you guys will defend him at all costs, and are totally blinded by his flaws. GB has put all of their eggs into the basket of their new savior. Maybe a couple more losing seasons will change that for you.
Nobody here is saying Rodgers is the next Favre.
Rodgers is what he is, he’s a talented young QB with lots of potential. Does he have flaws? Yes, but who doesn’t? Brett sure wasn’t ever able to will us to victory against Dallas early in his career (Or really anytime in his career for that matter). He also didn’t seem very adept at willing us into wins at the Metrodome. In fact, strangely he wasn’t able to “will us” into a title until Reggie White arrived. And after 1999, he sure managed to will us into several very disappointing playoff losses.
Now not trying to knock Brett, he has been a very good QB for us these past sixteen seasons, and we will never truly replace a player like him, but for as great as he was and is, many negatives get overlooked simply due to who he is. I don’t think there has ever been an athlete more immune to criticism from the fans and media than Brett Favre. When he throws a bad pass, he’s a “gunslinger”. When he throws a teammate under the bus, he’s just being honest.
Now back to Rodgers, nobody is expecting him to be the next Favre, including himself. Aaron Rodgers is Aaron Rodgers, and like any other QB who has replaced a legend, he will try to start his own legacy, not mimic the other guy’s. Will he do it? Who knows.

I also feel for you guys. I’ve been a big Rodgers fan since his High School days in Chico, California. He showed a lot of heart in this game and never gave up after the turnovers. He still though has to have a better pocket pressence.
I will continue to root for the Packers as long as Rodgers is playing for them. Except of course when the Packers play the Niners this year ;-)

I just threw up a little
So..on the second onside kick…there was one guy off the ground…he was on the vikings…the same guy on the first onside kick…shouldn’t the Packers have changed up the personnel?

No I do...maybe you're not getting what I'm saying because I'm drunk.
Rice caught the onside kick on both onside kicks….why didn’t we put in someone to challenge him on the second kick??…the guy jumped a couple fucking feet off the ground to make that last play…I didn’t see one Packer even attempt to make a play on the ball. Am I making sense now smart ass?

Looks like they got the 2007 Favre instead of the 08 edition
Good thing both years basically ended the same.
I will offer this...
We did play poorly. No excuse for 7 sacks. No excuse for dropped passes. No excuse for the excessive penalties we have been accumulating over the last 4 games. We could never establish any pressure on the QB, but can take a moral victory for stopping AP. Our defense looked as lost as it did in the past regular season games.
With that said, the Pack hung in there.

agreed as well
we fought till the end and didn’t roll over, that is something. rodgers was still out there firing after taking a beating. and crosby played well :-P
If any of you read the Yahoo story on Rodgers/Young and Montana/Favre
This game played out eerily similar to that one. Very strange. After taking what seemed like 17 sacks tonight, I think the team will be more behind him than ever before. And hopefully the fan base as well.
I always loved that one.
One thing is for sure,
Rodgers did not lose the game. It is a team effort. But there needs to be some emphasis placed on the war in the trenches on both sides.

The only downside to Rodgers lay would be that
at least 2 or 3 of the sacks were coverage, or Rodgers just holding on too long and not throwing it away. Still glad he is ours, though.
I always loved that one.
It's true.
The pick is the sort of the thing that’s going to happen occasionally. A handful of the sacks were the product (at least partially) of him holding the ball too long. It’s his 21st game as a starter. Most guys in the 21st game have way more flaws than that.
Favre did.
