Without He-Man Matthews we'd be down 21-7.
We need to get another turnover in the 2nd half, and we need at least 3 touchdowns I think.

In addition to Plax owning him in the 2007 NFC Championship
he gets continuously abused every week. Playing way out of position being a hard hitter who is ridiculously slow. Maybe he should be the one playing for Bigby at SS, with his awareness, lack of speed, and good tackling ability.

I am thinking, what are you doing?
When’s the last time you saw Harris make a really amazing play? He’s been terrible since Plaxico had a field day with him.
Tramon Williams is a better zone corner (which is what we’re playing now with the 3-4) Harris is getting by on his rep. on being a great man to man.. He may still be (although he is way too slow for my liking) but Al is not a fit for this D right now, from the looks of it.

Somebody mentioned that they rushed Favre and gave up a play on a short route
The danger of NOT doing that, however, is that you don’t have enough push-power to penetrate the pocket.
The result was that even though the play broke down, the receivers had an eternity to ad-lib.
Just no defense really.
The biggest weapon on any football team isn’t the QB or the RB -
It’s the Front Line.

here's my problem with the game
Favre looks like a HOFer (partially because he is)…but Green Bay’s best pass rusher (Kampman) is in coverage half the time).
Rodgers looks like he’s constantly making something out of nothing…while Minnesota’s best pass rusher (Allen) is after him on every play.

But until he learns? Expect lots of mistakes like that.

you HAVE to try to punch it in. A TD here will at least keep victory on life support. Going for the kick will pull the plug prematurely.

Is the Packers defensive 3rd down effiency, which is middle-of-the pack.

Gruden just pronounced the Vikings a Super Bowl team...
… for having a 4th quarter lead, at home, against a division rival that is playing its 4th game in a new defensive scheme and that can’t protect the quarterback, and who’s playing their 5th string SS and 2nd (soon to be 3rd) string left tackle.

Eli (little Manning) ...
..used to tense up and pull the ball in whenever he felt pressure.
The result was that he’d pull the ball into his body.
Now he’s learned to reflexively just cock and throw it away.
Might take a while before Rogers learns that risking a sack isn’t worth keeping the play alive.

Yeah he does.
I’d say at least 3 of his sacks tonight are on Rodgers.
But hey, it’s only his 21st start, and his game is pretty amazingly flawless with that exception for a guy with that little time as a starting QB.

But they’re in for a rude awakening later in the season. They’re about half as good as they think they are.
Rodgers really has to learn when to give on plays. That’s his biggest problem as a QB (not counting his offensive line).

It's tough to be any good when your OL is as bad as this one.
And that’s on Thompson and McCarthy. Thompson for not getting better talent and depth at a crucial position. McCarthy for not getting these guys ready to play.
by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Oct 5, 2009 10:25 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
You can't coach bad talent.
Or guys who are way out of position. What the hell’s the point of having Quinn Johnson on the roster if he never plays? Or Korey Hall? Or Deshawn Wynn who can’t catch the ball or run for over 2 yards?
by vitaminx on Oct 5, 2009 10:28 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
You might be right.
But I’ve read a couple of writers (Bedard, and McGinn, I think) who said that they’ve seen teams get by with worse talent. I’m assuming they know more than I do.
by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Oct 5, 2009 10:29 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Like who?
The 2001 Pats, maybe?
NO TEAM that gets far in this league does it with a horrible offensive line. And I’ll bet those teams that get by with worse talent also have a much easier schedule. The three team race in the NFC North ensures that won’t be the case for us.
by vitaminx on Oct 5, 2009 10:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree
At this point, it wouldn’t really matter who we would have at QB. If the line is a sieve, the pass and run gets shut down.
I liked their strategy coming out early with the short passes and screens, but you can only do that so long when you are down.

Yep.
He’s our ace-in-the-hole, along with the Vikes defensive secondary, that will probably keep them from getting to the SB, let alone winning it.

for the rest of the year, that’s going to be a problem

Let's never have
Ryan Grant blocking Jared Allen anymore

That was a busted play.
I think Lang was in the wrong spot.

Time for something big here.
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.

Hope they make fun of him in the film room....
… first he gets lazy and gets beat to the outside by a Williams (who weighs 100lbs more than Wells), and then he shoves the guy at the receiver.
Weak sauce, Mr. Wells.

So, James Jones lives.
He’s been fairly quiet this year.

So how many penalties have the Vikings gotten?
This game seemed awfully one sided in that area.

Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball.

In other words, you’d rather have a qb that throws for 400 yards, than a qb that will win the game for his team. Good luck with that. Hope the team has a comfy couch they can watch the playoffs from.
