Favre's return to Lambeau

Green Bay Packer Fans, what are you going to do when Brett Favre returns?

Star-divide

hey there im a 20 year old die-hard vikings fan. I have watched Favre basically my whole life, never hated him, actually respecting him, even though i strongly dislike the Packers. The Vikings head to Green Bay in 4 weeks and it will be the biggest game of the week, as i think the Packers will bounce back from the Monday Night loss and be 4-2 heading into that game.

But what im really here for is get the feelings of you Packer fans towards Brett Favre that night, are you going to boo him? Ive thought about this ever since the Favre to the Vikings rumors started after he was released from the Jets, and im still unclear about the result, i think some of you may boo (as some wanted to burn his jersey), but then i think the majority of you still love him and have mostly moved on as you have a QB who is going to Great one in Aaron Rodgers.

I am that first yes vote….Might not have booed, until that 3 and 10 bomb he let loose with 3 minutes left in the game. Classless jab at attempting to run up the score on an old team (although it stopped the clock and gave Pack another chance). Props to Rodgers, Chico is very proud!

i can understand you guys voting yes

if Joe Mauer was to sign with the Yankees or Red Sox im booing him

Yea, but that is a little different.

by Bjorno on Oct 8, 2009 1:50 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Eh not really

Mauer is the “face of the Twins”. Everyone in Minnesota loves the guy, and I mean everyone. Of course he has only been with the Twins for like 4 years but if he stayed for say, 6-7 more years, and continued to have the success he has had so far, him going to the Yanks would be very similar. Though I think it would be even more like the Favre situation if he went to an actual rival team of the Twins like the White Sox or the Tigers.

But in baseball we are used to that kind of thing, happens every couple of years.

Nobody Booed Torii Hunter on his return to the Metrodome. On the contrary, we gave him a standing ovation on his first game against us. Granted, he was not as big of a face for us as Mauer is now, but he was a HUGE part of our team.

We know that Minnesota does not have the market to sustain a team that is filled with star players. Eventually, the big names will have to go to make way for the new guys. Denard Span has filled in rather nicely for us in Hunter’s absence, save for some offensive production.

Though for some, it would certainly be a “Favre-type” scenario.

The fans booed Pierzynski

granted it was probably more because that guy was kind of a douche and he plays for the White Sox.

by Charlie Kelly on Oct 9, 2009 12:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yea, Pierzynski is a douche.

He tried to clip Morneau with his spikes, twice. He kneed a guy in the groin in training camp, and he spends his off-season on TNA Wrestling.

I was glad to see him go, especially considering we got Nathan out of the deal.

by Bjorno on Oct 9, 2009 12:31 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yea, that was a steal

and it would be even more of one if Liriano ever plays like he did before the Tommy John surgery.

by Charlie Kelly on Oct 9, 2009 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

True.

He has shown flashes, but I think we are going to have to keep him in the pen. Once he get’s around 60 pitches in, he falls apart.

We were certainly hoping. We have Blackburn, but we need someone else who can handle the load.

Torii Hunter to Brett Favre is apples-oranges. He was never the face of the franchise.

Are you a Twins fan? I love the Twins. Was sooo disappointed to see them blow a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 9th. Too bad Nathan has seemed to forget how to close out games, these last few weeks.

Did you go to the playoff game Tuesday?

by packallday555 on Oct 10, 2009 1:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Apples to Oranges perhaps, but Torii was the closest thing to a face of the franchise that we had at the time.

Definitely a Twins fan, but due to the time of year they play most of their games and the sheer amount of games played, most of my fandom comes from listening to the radio.

Would have loved to go to the playoff game, too bad work takes precedence over baseball.

I see

I guess that’s one of the benefits of being a college student, and being in the Minneapolis era.

by packallday555 on Oct 12, 2009 12:27 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think the Apples to Oranges part

is that Torii Hunter (though a really good player) was never as nationally recognized as the face of the Twins. For a very long time it was impossible to think about the Packers without thinking of Favre. The two were so intertwined they were essentially one and the same. And because of Favre’s absolute adoration by the national media this seemed even stronger. I don’t think there really is any parallel to this situation at all. Maybe if Larry Bird had come out of retirement after a few months to play for the Lakers, but that’s the only thing I can think of that could be an accurate comparison. The length of time in which he was the face of the Packers is what makes any other comparison inaccurate.

by verno329 on Oct 12, 2009 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right

That was why I pointed out that Mauer would have to stay with the Twins for 10+ more years. Larry Bird playing for the Lakers would be accurate just as Magic Johnson playing for the Celtics.

by packallday555 on Oct 12, 2009 11:30 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Torii is different though...

the Twins were basically done with him and weren’t even really trying to sign him very much. We all knew he was gone after the season. Plus he went to the Angels…who cares! If Mauer ends up a Yankee or Red Sox player, I will be booing his A$$ hardcore when he comes. He’s a local boy who grew up a Twins fan and has always been a MN hometown kinda guy…if he goes there it shows its ONLY about the money and it shows we were all fooled by him all this time. If the Twins only lowball him, that is different. Same would go if he went to the White Sox…he becomes the enemy.

I won't be there but

I would certainly boo him. Relentlessly.

They should play a montage on the jumbo tron

of every single Favre interception ever thrown while “Rock you like a Hurricane” plays in the background.

by Charlie Kelly on Oct 7, 2009 2:55 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Hahahahaha

Though I don’t necessarily dislike him enough for me to want them to actually do that, I think that would be absolutely hilarious.

by packallday555 on Oct 7, 2009 11:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

There should be a third option in the poll

Do nothing.

I think it would be hilarious, although quite impossible I’ll admit, if Lambeau is silent when Favre enters the stadium. Don’t cheer, don’t boo, don’t even acknowledge him. Almost like in college basketball when the fans read the paper as the opposing team is introduced. Anybody know what 70,000 copies of the Green Bay Gazette costs??

by HankO on Oct 7, 2009 5:54 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Love that idea

Too hard to pull off but that would be amazing

never happen

there will be too many viking fans there cheering so I think the packer fans NEED to boo to drown it out. Either way, I don’t think the Vikes will introduce individual players anyway so they will just run out all together to the usual chorus of boos that the Vikings players would get!

by TrevorR on Oct 12, 2009 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

you're right

introducing the offense would be asking for trouble. they’ll intro the D i would imagine.

Jay Cutler got booed when he went back to Denver for the preseason game

But, Jay Cutler didn’t play for the Broncos for 16 years.

If GB fans boo Favre like Denver fans booed Cutler, it will truly be an amazing event.

Not to mention that it would really be classless by the fans of Green Bay. Favre’s last game at Lambeau field and he’s booed. They will show that video forever. And you’ll be reminded about it during the HOF induction when he’s inducted as a Packer.

by dsludo on Oct 7, 2009 11:39 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Really?

I always saw him retiring as a Jet.

by Charlie Kelly on Oct 8, 2009 9:52 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

What about the high school where he "trains" during the off-season?

Seriously, we are all ignoring the real victim in this ordeal. The poor high school QB who has to take over when his royal Favreness leaves. As if the receivers aren’t saying to themselves “Favre could have made that throw” after every incomplete pass. Poor guy. Never had a chance.

What?

Favre’s last game at Lambeau field and he’s booed. They will show that video forever. And you’ll be reminded about it during the HOF induction when he’s inducted as a Packer.

Reminded about it at the hof? Like, “Now, we would like to induct at qb who was booed his last game at Lambeau field and did some other things in his career, Brett Favre.”

Show the video forever? Who, when, what context? And, who cares? Where do you come up with this stuff?

So what was the point of your post? You seem to love talking about how Packers fans have no IQ or how they are stupid. You were a Packers fan once right?

Most fans won’t cheer for him, at least I hope not. The guy is an ego-maniac. He is all about himself. He loves attention and gets what he wants (see: fake retirement to the Vikes so he didn’t have to go to training camp). I mean for what other reason would you retire 5 times in the span of 2 years? I get that you would kiss the ground the guy walks on but can you honestly think he was in the right after the 07’ season?

by packallday555 on Oct 9, 2009 12:05 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

lmao @ 5 times

Come on man. I’ve heard people say 3 times and that’s wrong.

Here is the timeline:

Retired:March 2008

Favre coming back to the Packers, then being traded to the Jets for the 2008 season.

Favre retires in early 2009.

Favre joining the Vikings in August 2009.

That would be a total of 2 retirements, until he gets his 3rd when he retires from the Vikings.

You can’t count while he’s retired for him to “think about coming back and changing his mind” as two retirements.

by dsludo on Oct 9, 2009 11:30 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

well actually

yes you can consider his 3rd retirement when he said in late July that he was gonna retire. that’s how retirement works (at least in the case of Favre). but perhaps we can find a middle ground by going back to the term Favretire. Favretiring is when you feel like manipulating the league rules to fit your needs and also don’t feel like going to training camp. imagine if everyone could do whatever they want and Favretire just so that they can go wherever they choose. that would be great, huh?

by verno329 on Oct 10, 2009 10:43 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

.....well actually.

So you’re trying to give him his 3rd retirement, when he decided not to play when he was already retired? Unfortunately for the sake of your argument, you can’t retire when you’re already retired.

Sorry, it just doesn’t work like that.

by dsludo on Oct 10, 2009 11:19 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

He has had 5 my friend

The first happened in March of 08’. Then he said he had an “itch” to play. Our organization flew down to his house in May of 08’, and he then told him he was going to again stay retired. He then retired after the 09’ season. The shortly after, the talks of him playing for you guys began, and he told Chilly right around the time you guys had training camp that he was going to stay retired.

Yes, you can count him thinking about retiring and then deciding not come back. Bottom line is the guy has went back and forth 5 times now. He is very egotistical. He loves himself some Brett Favre.

by packallday555 on Oct 10, 2009 1:40 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

he loves himself some bf?

Get over it. All i’m saying is that when everything is said and done the official record is that he will retire 3 times (just like Michael Jordan) after he retires from the Vikings. Whatever you think in your head that happened, doesn’t matter.

by dsludo on Oct 10, 2009 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Haha

Whatever I think happened? No man, I know he waffled on coming back at least 4 times. Whether or not it’s an “official” retirement I don’t care. He was considering coming back each and every one of those times I listed off, and if he weren’t then he wouldn’t have had to announce each and every one of those times that he was going to stay retired. That’s all that really matters to me.

Vikes fans just don’t see the same things that Packers fans do in this situation. You didn’t follow our team as close as many of us did for the 17 years Favre played for us. Just like most of us do not follow the Vikes as closely as we follow the Packers. It’s easy for you to stick up for Farve now because he is playing for the team you cheer for, but had he never come there or had he stay retired after the 08’ season I have a feeling your opinions on the matter would be a bit different.

by packallday555 on Oct 12, 2009 12:35 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I will say that Favres “I am going to stay retired” to Chilly conversation was nothing more than a smoke screen for him to get away from participating in training camp without arousing the ire of the rest of the team.

This sounds reasonable

Probably what I would do as well….He is wearing the enemy’s uniform after all…Would not expect any different…

What will be interesting is if Vikings are still undefeated for this version 1.1 game….Not that I expect emotions to be otherwise flat on both sides….

But it would add to the already highly charged drama, no? As a vikingsfan from afar I can say that this would be the most desirable scenario….

Oh yes, no trolling here…I really want to see a competitive game and may the best team (that night anyway) win….

I also long for the old Black and Blue Division days LOL….One of the reasons this next matchup will be so interesting to watch….

Viel Glueck (but not TOO much LOL!)….

SKOL

I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!
