To Ted: Please trade for Steven Jackson
I know what everyone is thinking, Ted Thompson would never make a trade or high draft picks for a player but come oooonnnnn! Jackson is a beast and Ryan Grant is not the answer. For once Ted, please do something about the running game. I watched Jackson yesterday tear up the running for 147 yds and a td, not even mentioning the receiving yards he had. He constantly took on tacklers and shook them off. Name the last time you saw that happen in a Packers uniform. He is an amazing player, playing with a mediocre to good O-line, on a terrible team. So what is you give up a few picks and some role players, he would improve the run game alone. Maybe I'm dreaming but how else will you immediately improve the run game than trading for an elite runner. Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson are not the answer, and a high pick runner next year will never make an impact fast enough.

Before the trade deadline
there was a rumor going around that TT was in talks to trade Ryan Grant, Aaron Kampmann, and 2 high draft picks to the Rams for Chris Long and Steven Jackson. Unfortunately, the Rams denied the offer. TT tried, but couldn’t do it as it wasn’t worth it.

I don't believe that rumor
This isn’t like the NBA, where high-profile names are traded for each other. That trade would have been OK in Madden (and personally, I’d be OK with it in real life), but it’s not the kind of trade that happens.
The last NFL blockbuster was Cutler for Orton, and even then the only thing Chicago sent back was draft picks. Multiple big-name players don’t get moved in the same deal in the NFL.

Yeah...
I’m not sure if I believe it either. I would have loved that trade in real life, and it really would be a good one for both teams but I doubt it will ever happen.
Jerious Norwood, Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, and Leon Washington will all be FA’s after this season, and getting one of them would be great. Their all young guys, and all are exceptional pass catching backs. It be great for TT to get one of these guys. I can’t remember the last time we had a Rb who could break a long one at anytime, and it could really help out Rodgers and the passing game.

The only trade I can think of that was one big player for another
was Champ Bailey and Clinton Portis. There might have been picks involved too, I don’t remember.

Fix O-line first!
Would Jackson be effective with our current O-line? I don’t know. With our O-line I think that it would take an exceptional athlete (aka Barry Sanders, AP) to really do some serious yardage from scrimmage. Don’t you think?

Have you watched a Ram's game this year?
They’re probably jealous of our o-line

Jackson is a BEAST! He would be unquestionably in the best 2 or 3 backs in the league right now if his team had ANY talent. Him in green would totally change how teams approached our offense. We can all dream but I doubt we’ll ever see him in Green. I would become a HUGE TT lover if he managed to pull it off though. Trade our first rounder for him, I don’t care.

Agreed
Remember when the Chargers were dangling Michael Turner for a first-round draft pick a couple of years ago? I got into an argument with my dad about the Pack dealing in – I argued who would the team draft in the opening round that’s as talented and NFL starter ready as Turner?
I would instantly trade the Packers’ #1 pick next year for Steven Jackson straight up. In my opinion, that’s a steal when considering what a crap shoot the last few first rounders have been since A-Rod.

Man…this would be a GENIUS move. Its not like we’d be getting some over the hill washed up guy who is a risk (a la Larry J), you are getting an AP style runner than can both plow you over and gash you by getting to the edge. He’s an animal and with any kind of real team, wow…imagine what he could do. Imagine the change he would force teams to make in how they play us!! Rodgers would see so many more openings to exploit. Defenses wouldn’t be able to blitz as much cause Jackson would be too dangerous. Man who started this thread…it can only lead to heartbreak, can’t it???

Exactly
I feel a 1st rounder would be a steal chiefly because Jackson is 26 and entering his prime right now. Barring catastrophic injury (as always), he’s going to be a top 3 back in this league for the next 3-4 years.
I agree with you Trevor, this scenario would be so great that it sucks to even discuss it knowing it has almost no chance of actually happening.
But like I said below, if the Packers win 7-9 games and Thompson doesn’t get sacked, this would be exactly the type of bold personnel move that he needs to make to re-energize the team as well as the fanbase.

I wouldn’t mind it either, but I would really like to see TT draft a T, as there are supposed to be some good ones in next years draft.

of course TT would take a risk
If I am not mistaken, the Chargers would have taken a second round pick for Turner and TT wasnt willing to give up a pick lower than the 3rd round. That just makes the case even worse. They could have had a top five runner for a player for that 2nd round pick of Brandon Jackson……ouch

Jesus, are you serious?

Addendum
And it’s exactly the sort of high-reward, low-risk type of bold move that Thompson should consider to get some of his critics off his back.
Although if there is a starting Tackle equivalent of Steven Jackson out there, that’s probably the better move right now.

We definitly need a...
Lagit running attack because what we have now is junk. And I definitly think the Rams would go for another 1st rounder. And it would defitly help Rodgers out if opposing Ds had something else to worry about.
