So I just saw on ESPN that Stafford will be starting today. That should certainly be interesting.

Yep

Though neither Johnson or Stafford practiced this week. Stafford still has to be in a lot of pain. They are taking a risk with him.

by Brandon on Nov 26, 2009 11:27 AM CST up reply actions

Well

That’ll make the game a little more interesting.

Lions like to risk the health of their young players in order to keep playing on Thanksgiving. That’s pretty sad, but this is all they’ve got.

Penalties, lousy special teams...

All the things that have been problems all season show up already. All we need now is their lousy red zone pass defense to allow a TD pass. The Lions have 3 chances now thanks to Matthews.

by Brandon on Nov 26, 2009 11:41 AM CST reply actions

That was no fault at Matthews

He literally taped his helmet

I got to see the Matthews penalty and the subsequent score (of course they would score).

The penalty was weak, weak, weak, but they are going call those weak penalties. Would have preferred a no-call, but maybe it is just the Packers destiny to litter the field with yellow.

The Packers want to be like video game football (Techmo/Madden).

Start every drive as deep as you can so you can rack up yards and make your team look pimp with QB’s with 6,000 yards passing and RB’s 2,000+. Who cares about the returner stats when you can pimp the rest of your team. Except….

That doesn’t work in the real NFL. >.< Special teams >.<

Slightly "off topic" and not all that important

…but I see the secondary is wearing all-white socks this game. I thought Grant got a uniform fine when he did that @ the Vikings game. Maybe some fines coming out of this game.

by NYCPac on Nov 26, 2009 1:01 PM CST up reply actions

The Niners

have a pretty solid front seven and we kept them in check last week too.

Note the same thing Joe Buck did: The Packers have given up 6+ sacks in 4 games this year, and only 6 sacks in the last 10 quarters now. Something’s definitely clicked after the Bucs game.

by vitaminx on Nov 26, 2009 1:02 PM CST up reply actions

Between him and TJ

It sure seems to have improved the last few games

by bluejazz04 on Nov 26, 2009 12:59 PM CST up reply actions

I think

everyone is just playing much better. A lot of their struggles had to do with technique and such. Wells was a more than capable starter.. This is the same line we’ve used for the past couple years now, just sub in Josh Sitton (who’s played pretty well this year) for Jason Spitz, who I think was out of place at center.

Wells is smaller but he knows what he’s doing there. I think the big question next year is where we draft on the offensive line to replace who. Spitz will be coming back from injury, Clifton is clearly on the decline, and who knows how serviceable Tauscher will be. We need to bring up Lang somewhere there and then a rookie to start.

1st Half

Cheers: To the defense. After an earlier TD, Detroit only managed 50 yards of total offense, and grabbed 2 INTs. The offensive line: No sacks! Only one QB hit. Rodgers 200 yards passing.

Jeers: Special teams! Fumble, missed FG, at least 3 penalties…They’ve managed to fail in nearly every way possible. The score would be at least 16-0 if it weren’t for them.

Especially since

Giving up the seven would have left the score at 13 ahead. 15 ahead is more comfortable, since the worst case scenario would have us tied at the end, rather than losing.

FG?

I know they need 3 scores, but it’s not that easy to get back down to the 5 yard line.

I am not a fan of

having Woodson as the return man

Despite Rodgers having nice stats

He has been inaccurate more than usual today. Many completions were behind or high throws.

Not complaining, just noting that we could have had a few more big plays with a dash more accuracy.

Seemed like that was the case earlier

The receivers looked like they were running some bad routes too, though. This is the kind of football we get from teams that get three days’ rest, though.

Aw, man.

I was hoping Bigby would catch that INT so everyone in the secondary would have a pick.
