Indy pulling its starters?

I wanted to get a discussion about what Packer fans think about Indy pulling its starters in the third quarter. They were up 5 points and the game did have playoff implications for the Jets.

There is a lot of discussion going on in the media about this decision. By reading fan reactions about the game, it seems that many Colts fans are pretty ticked off and think Caldwell is an idiot.

I, for one, think it was the correct move. So what if they lost the game? They have already locked up home field and were really only playing for perfection and the record books. However, if something crazy happened and if Peyton gets hurt, their season was over. Period. Then Caldwell would really look terrible.

Anyways, the most important news of the day is that the Packers are back in the playoffs. It was great to see them take care of business, Mason Crosby gain some confidence, and Jarrett Bush locate his hands with a nice pick.

Well IDK

I see the logic from both sides. But then again, the game is about legacy’s. Payton already has a ring.He is also a superbowl MVP. In fact Clark, Wayne and Addai all have rings People have been talking about the 72 Dolphins forever and I would think it would be a dream for a team or a player to be apart of that. Then there is the issue of going into the playoffs with momentum. Instead there is a bad taste about “what if’’s” and " we should have’s" and a great QB who might be secretly questioning the coach in the back of his mind even though not saying anything publicly. Like I said, IDK , bit seeing how Addai, Clark, Wayne have been there—— I can’t help but wonder if they wanted a bigger stage. I know a SB is huge, but I’m sure these guys know people have been mentioning the 72 Fish for 37 yrs and I think they may have wanted that bigger stage.

There is positives and negatives to both sides but I didn’t have a problem with him pulling the starters.

Crosby nailing that 52 yard FG could be huge for his confidence. He looked awfully happy after he made it. It probably felt like a giant monkey had just jumped off his back.

It was also nice to see Bush make that pick. It’s hard to say but a lot of the time Bush is actually in a position to make a play on the ball, he just doesn’t look back for the ball. He did it today and actually made a great play. I think he was covering Houshz that play too. Not too shabby.

I liked seeing Raji in there as well. It’s clear we’re stronger against the run with Pickett but Raji had a couple of big plays for us. He looked like he was improving with every play throughout the game. The right side of our run defense with Jolly and Jones on the edge looked a bit weak though. It seemed to me that it was because Jolly wasn’t getting pushed back a bit but I’m sure Jones had some blame as well.

I think that move just locked up Peyton’s MVP for the season though. The team literally folded the minute he left the game!

I didn’t mind the move. I know the players were extremely pissed but honestly the only thing that matters for the year is winning the super bowl. Reg season record doesn’t mean jack…as an example. The Packers might end the season with 11 wins, a VERY successful season, but if they are one and done, it will be worthless.

Brees should be MVP over Manning

Brees has much better numbers across the board and lead his team to a very successful season as well. As far as resting starters I don’t have a problem with it especially with an experienced team like the Colts. Manning possibly could have played one more series to extend the lead but it is what it is.

I don’t know though, Brees has been tailing off a LOT lately and his competition has been far less impressive. If Peyton is legitimately in the running, he’ll get it. he’s a media darling.

Yeah but Peyton

is expected to win and put up near perfect seasons. No one expected the Saints to be as good as they were.

My vote for league MVP is Chris Johnson. 5.8 yards per carry? Yikes

Yeah…its a good thought, but honestly it won’t happen. They might as well call it MVQB.

I don’t always agree with the award…they tend to give it to the guy with the most amazing stats but the key to the award is that it should go to the most valuable player to his team.

That is why I like Manning for it…when he isn’t on that team it comes unraveled.

Yeah I agree Trevor, I think Manning should get it. I think Johnson should be up there though to as well. I mean let’s be honest, he dominated defenses with VY and Collins as his Qb’s this year. I even think Rodgers could be in the mentioning for it. He’s top 5 in every Qb category, and our team is 10-5. I don’t think he should win by any means, I just think he should be mentioned for it.

Yeah I think I agree with you. 4.24 really deserves a shot, I still don’t see him in many top 5’s. Seems to go:
TOP TIER
Manning

SECOND TIER
Brees/Rivers/Favre

OTHERS
Johnson/Revis/Rodgers/Others

How much money do they make?

Get out there and throw the ball

Either it matters or it doesn't

If it matters, you go for it all the way.

If it doesn’t matter, you rest your starters as soon as you’ve locked things up. Take no chances with injuries, etc.

Personally, I lean toward the former, but I can see the point of the latter. What I can’t see the point of is what Indy did. Manning could just as easily have been injured in those first 2 1/2 quarters.

But he wasn't injured

So in Caldwell’s mind, he’s played with fire for 35 minutes or so and didn’t get burned, and called it good.
