Hoping for Haynesworth

Hey guys.  I recently started loving reading this blog so I decided to set up an account.  I live 10 minutes outside DC (I pretty much abandon being a Redskins fan in 4th grade when I could already tell they were the most disappointing team in the NFL, and have been devoted to the Packers since I got my Brett Favre jersey that year).

People here have been talking about Dan Snyder's dinner with Albert Haynesworth Saturday night were apparently Snyder offered Haynesworth a $100 million contract that would be like $15 Million a year, with only $10 million on the current cap (for anyone who doesn't know the Skin's have a history of throwing away draft picks and big money at veteran players who always underperform once they get here- Jason Taylor, Deion Sanders, Bruce Smith...the list goes on and on)

Anyway, I was kind of hoping we would take a shot a Haynesworth since we have the most cap room in the league and need a DT.  Does anybody else think Haynesworth is worth the huge contract that the Pack are capable of dishing out??

Also, I guess Shaun Rogers is an option to look into.  He wants out of Cleveland and can play the nose.  Probably for less money than Haynesworth, too.

i think rogers is a more realistic signing for us. but i would LOVE to get haynesworth cuz as long as jenkins performs at RE and we get someone decent to play LE we would be very hard to run on. and our pass d is already very good. i think i read somewhere that were 28 million under the cap so i guess giving haynesworth 15 million is something we could do but know TT that is very unlikey

Rogers

I can’t imagine Cleveland is letting him go anywhere. He was arguably better than Haynesworth last season.

I was just looking at Nfl.com and at free agent DTs. I came across Grady Jackson of the Falcons who weighs in at whopping 345 lbs. They also mention that Michael Boley would be a good fit for the OLB. Does anyone know anything about him?

I worry about giving a guy who has never played a full season in his career big time money, especially when he the tendency for big guys like him is to lose their desire after getting the huge contract. Peter King’s column on Monday (I believe that was the one) summed up my concerns almost exactly.

Frye is honestly gotta be one of the top 10 3rd Stringers in all of the NFL right now--colbyb

We should pass...

Haynesworth is asking for around $15 mil and even though we could afford it right now I would rather save the cap room and lock some of our own guys up for long term… Kampman, Jennings, etc that are down to their last year under contract. We should go after someone else if not two bigger FA with that $15 mil

i didnt know grady jackson was FA but he would be a great fit at the nose at 345 lb.!!! boley is a solid lb and would also be a good fit

grady jackson

has played for green bay already, and he ate his way out of town (which, in good ol’ Wisconsin, is quite a feat).

Jackson is a huuuge player, no doubt. But he gets too big for his own good. Remember how Gilbert Brown, a great DT, would have injuries that were directly attributed to carrying too much weight, especially towards the end of his career? Same thing with Grady. His knees and ankles gave him problems last time he was here, we don’t need to go through that again.
