So it is now official, most of you will be pretty disappointed but DT Haynesworth signed with the Redskins. But before you get to upset look at what the are giving up 7 years and $100 million for a guy that has only played a full season once in his career. And will be 28 in a couple of months. Yea that may sound young but not to DL whose knees and ankles start to give out early. Dont get me wrong i would have liked Haynesworth in GB but not for the money he was asking I dont think he is the number one DT in the NFL. (I believe there are two Williams that you could argue are better and more consistent)

Other news the Vikings dont only make the trade for Rosenfels but they give him and extension paying him a decent starter salary with a two years for $9 mil instead of the $1.3 he was making in Houston.

Another possible disappointment to us the Jets seem to be close in signing LB Scott for 5 years $40 mil.

We can be happy that we did put offers and have rights to some of our key players Tramon, Bigby, Martin, Bush... but still no news with Tauscher...

So with Haynesworth, Scott, Suggs, and so on off the market now who do we want? or should go after?

Lets at least sign

Pierre Woods to an offer sheet. Belichick seems to like him so he’s a good player, and we’re going to need to get a real olb sometime.

We could get Woods, Angelo Crowell (had a knee injury in 08 that caused him to miss the year but in 07’ was one of the better lb’s out there and is only 28 years old.), Kevin Burnett (played for the cowboys in a 3-4 scheme, he was a 2nd round pick but was behind James and Thomas), Andra Davis (played for Texans, solid starter and has experience in 3-4, but old).

At DE Canty ( everyone knows about him), Antonio Smith (played for the cardinals in a 3-4 scheme, i don’t know how many people watched the playoffs but this guy tore it up during them) Igor Ilshanky ( benched late last year but strong as a ox, and has experience in 3-4 scheme).

I also think we need to bring in a FS. Collins is a great playmaker but in the 3-4 the FS is the “QB” of the defense. And i remember when we drafted him we were hesitant to do so b/c he had a horrible score on the Wonderlich and didn’t seem to be to smart. Last year he made a lot of plays jumping routes but him jumping routes also hurt us a ton too. For example against Carolina, on 2 deep balls Collins chose to jump the underneath route and that left Smith 1 on 1 with Williams deep. Of course he made both catches and we eventually lost.

Don’t get me wrong i think collins is an oustanding player and should definitely be our starter at FS next year. But he could struggle with all the different calls he needs to make so it might be beneficial for us to bring in James Sanders (from the Pats, veteran player who has tons of experience in the 3-4) or Sean Jones (from the Browns, who also has good experience in the 3-4).

Collins

I was really down on Collins after his first three seasons (2005-2007) but he was fantastic last season. It didn’t seem like an aberration either. You could see all the physical skills before, but he just put it all together in 2008. I think he’s the real deal. But I’m all in favor of finding a great safety to play alongside him (although there isn’t an obvious one available.)
