looking at the 3-4

So everyone that watched the Super Bowl just witnessed one of the best 3-4 Defenses. We are all hoping we can get to that stature but can we? I think there are some guys on the team that will perform better but then we still have a lot more holes then we did in the 4-3. So comparing our lineup against the Steelers and the 3-4.....

Bigby.. a FA so this could be important or not depending on the signings. But I think he can perform a lot better in the 3-4 as the physical SS he is he will be able to play the run more and become a part of the blitz packages. His weakness is covering but you can then just have him roam on pass plays.. Look at Troy Polamalu a very physical guy plays up on the line a lot and makes a ton of plays! So this can help Bigby.

Kampman... After watching the Steelers LBs I really don't think Kamp can play OLB anymore. He is quick for a DE but not a OLB. He can be very comparable to Aaron Smith but Kamp had just a little better numbers (62 tackles 9.5 sacks Smith 60 Ts 5.5 sacks) So to say a DE in 3-4 is just a line filler may not be right. I just cant see Kampman being James Harrison or LaMarr Woodley (they are the same size but not the same attributes)

NT... I think we have a number of guys that could play this sucessfully. Harrell has the size and even better speed then most NT but can he stay healthy? Pickett has the size and had actually a better year then Steeler NT Casey Hampton. Pickett 48T 1.5S Hampton 22T and 1S. And Even Jolly or Cole both are big even to play that NT pos.

Jenkins... a step above Brett Keisel for the other DE...

LBS... To say Hawk is undersized to play inside would be FALSE!!! Look at Foote 239 lbs and Farrior 243lbs and Hawk is 248lbs so undersize is not the problem but he just needs to have better awareness as i think he lacked that playing MLB this year... Barnett the other inside backer.. The outside I Chillar might be just cause we have no one else.. the other I think we need help in the draft. Witjh the switch to the 3-4 I think we can cross out the DLine help that we needed this past year. We are going to need quick and big LBs

With that said I would like TT and MM to look at Orakpo DE/OLB from TX Aaron Maybin DE/OLB Penn ST or Rey Maualuga from USC. All have good size can play the run and pass rush.  And could all fit at the inside backer or outside

Poppinga was a pass rusher in college and might be better suited at OLB in a 3-4. We know he can’t cover anyone. Might as well see if he can rush the passer. If not, why on earth did we give him an extension?

yea which kinda sucks

the OLB does not always blitz! Look at Harrison 100 yrd INT TD!! So he could be a situational LB or a backup for that DE spot…

Brady on the rush

He got a lot of chances late in the season, and always seemed to get swallowed up by the big tackles. He just doesn’t have any moves; no bull rush to overpower them and not enough speed to get around them. He might be best as one of the middle LBs who has to cover an area and not try and run sideline to sideline.

Kampman at LB

I think that moves closes the door on any 1st round pick on a LB. And I’m not wild about it either.

I do think Bigby can be a Troy Polamalu lite. He’ll never be as good, but receivers could start hearing footsteps when Bigby is around. He’ll never be great in coverage either.

The Packers really need to find their Casey Hampton. The Packers haven’t had a plug in the middle as good as Hampton since DT Gilbert Brown’s one great season in 1996. Although DT Grady Jackson had his moments too. DT Ryan Pickett can fill the void, but they can do better.

Casey Hampton

blows through double teams like they’re nothing. Pickett won’t be able to do that, but he’ll be serviceable for a year or two.
I don’t know about the contract status of Chris Hoke, and he’s not an ideal size for a nose tackle, but every time I see him play I’m impressed. He’ll never start because he’s behind Hampton, but I wonder…..

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

harrell

we haven’t really seen much of him yet. we used a first round pick. i know he’s been hurt, but mgmt had to be thinking about big Gilbert when they drafted him. Anybody else seen this guy?

when he was healthy even in college...

he was good, he has pretty good speed for a big guy and busted through Olines like nothing. But then again those were college Olines and cant compare him to much cause who knows how bad all the injuries have hurt his strength.

If they take Raji in the draft,

The NT position should be all set.
(Orakpo would be cool to.)

I miss the slide, the balloons, and the giant beer mug. :(
