I Am Fantasy and so Can You!

Hey ya'll. I'm looking to get involved in some serious fantasy football this season. I'm not talking about your namby-pamby Yahoo one season stuff. I'm talking the big time: a dynasty league.

I've really only played in seasonal leagues before, but I believe I am prepared for the requsitie commitment that comes with a dynasty league. Here's the problem: I don't really know of any good dynasty sites and I don't really know anyone who particpates in them.

Anyone out there interested in something like this, or can you at least point me in the right direction?

if by "dynasty" you mean a keeper league,

then espn.com has a decent setup for it

I’ve been in an espn.com league since my sophomore year of high school. That was, what, seven years ago? Wow.

Anyways, you can either create your own, or perhaps I and/or Brandon could commission a league for long-term, hardcore APC readers. We did a FleaFlicker league last year that went pretty well, except for my whole playoff collapse thing.

Do yourself a favor and DON’T join any random leagues. they are not worth it. Either find some people at school, work, family, or here.

In any case, count me in. No more undergrad + a real job = need for some fun distractions come September.

I read somewhere...

That there is a distinction. Here’s what some fellows at rotoworld said:

keeper is usually a predetermined amount of players each team is allowed to keep…while dynasty leagues keep their entire roster…

I kind of like the idea of keeping the whole roster and then making accusations exactly like an NFL team instead of returning some of your players. I think it’d be cool to even factor in some type of salary cap or something.

I dunno, I’m still exploring. But i definitely think it’d be worth considering with some of the guys on here.

Salary caps are fun but they are tough to do without having a player auction. fantasyauctioneer.com did offer online auctions but is currently out of service and I have heard there were a few bugs in the program. I am not aware of any other sites that offer online auction capability. And if there are, I can’t imagine it would be free.

I have been running Dynasty leagues for years on Fanball’s league commissioner. No real complaints and the price is right (around $70, compared to 150+ on CBS). They do exactly what I need from them with the player salaries and contracts etc… I am not sure it would work in a purely online situation where you have to draft online (some friends tried the live draft feature in a different league and said it kept crashing). It is better for just running the league after the draft/auction. I don’t know much about ESPN’s setup due to my boycott of ESPN in general.

If you can get a league full of active owners there is nothing that compares to a dynasty league. My league is just as active in April/May as it is during the season. Trade offers are coming all year long. As a matter of fact I just traded M. Barber, B. Marshall and Shockey for Jones-Drew, Housh, and H. Ward a couple weeks ago

The only reason I even do a few yahoo leagues is because I like to do the draft.

I'm a poor college student

So that might be a little too rich for my blood…but I am definitely interested.

I am in the same poor college student situation...

Is there cash payback with that $70 or is that just for using the site?

the $70 is just for using the site

no cash payback from the site, we just use it to run our own league. It is nice for us because the site is active all year and the only work we have to do is to load the rosters after our free agent player auction.

we have a pretty extreme rules setup for my dynasty league.
If you follow this link and go to the bottom of the list on the left to “Insanity League” you can see a similar setup to mine.

I am not sure if the ESPN setup is compatible with that kind of system, or if you are even looking for something that extreme.

I'm interested...

Count me in, I’ve never done a keeper league, just your yearly Yahoo Fantasy Team.

Mitchell, you didn’t collapse in the playoffs, you just overachieved in the regular season.
