Marshall to Green Bay?
Den WR Brandon Marshall to GB?
August 31, 2009, 10:36am
According to LeRoy Butler, former Green Bay Packer on local radio, he heard from Donald Driver– Brandon Marshall
to GB for Donald Driver
& Donald Lee
. Supposedly, the reason it isn't done is the Packers won't give an extension to Marshall. Let’s flag this as speculation and watch.

Thoughts? I don't see it happening, but i think it would be a good deal. Marshall has attitude issues, but getting a new contract and getting out of the mess in Denver could help him. I find it's hard to believe it'd be Marshall for Lee and Driver straight up though. I would have thought there'd be draft picks involved.

I'm not buying
Marshall’s attitude doesn’t seem like one that TT would bring to this organization.
If there is any teeth to this, I’m definately onboard for Finley starting, but not sure Havner/Moore would be passable at #2 & #3. Plus I’d hate to see Driver go anywhere

4for4?
Reading some of the other stories for the Packers on the site, they sure seem to not be bashful about reporting unsubstantiated rumor.

I've never heard of the site either,
but saw the link posted on another site. I’d wait for someone more credible to start reporting it

4for4 is a Fantasy Football site iirc
Maybe it was somebody’s fantasy trade proposal that got construed the wrong way?
It would be a decent trade in fantasy, in real life…not so much.

What a ridiculous rumor.
Why would GB trade for that kind of idiot when they’ve already got the deepest WR corps in the league (ok, maybe second to the Cards)? If they’re concerned that Driver is nearing the end they’ve got Jones and Nelson behind him, which still gives them enough talent to go 3 deep with better players than most defenses can match. And for Marshall, whom the Broncos are motivated to deal, who doesn’t know this offense, doesn’t like to learn new offenses, or practice apparently, we’re supposed to give up 2 starters?
Please.

Wow a resounding no.
A-Rodg has such a good connection with all of his receivers and tight ends. I don’t see them screwing it up with someone that is proved to be quite the locker room cancer in Denver.

great talent
but major headcase. tt would not put on team don’t think. but if he comes to the structure of the pack locker room might calm down, randy moss to ne, now i know not exact same but close. but overall don’t want to c dd go. not for this knucklehead

Even though this won't happen
it would be a terrible trade. Driver may be getting older and starting the down slide of his career but he’s always been a classy and stand up guy while Marshall has already shown he’ll behave like a seven year old if he doesn’t get his way.

They better not trade Driver
I just hung a new poster of him in my dorm today.
This would be so stupid, Marshall is a talent but he is also the kind of headcase we don’t need. This is a Super Bowl caliber team right now and nothing should be done to ruin it.
Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

well I don't mind the Packers making moves to improve the team
but I am totally confused as to how this rumor is something that would help the team. I don’t buy it.

Just to play devil's advocate ...
Marshall is a head case, but he’s also one of the top wide receivers in the league – probably in the top 10. Could this be another Randy Moss to the Pats situation, where a player is floundering with a terrible team and will adjust their behavior when they get to play for a winner? Belichick does this a lot (Moss and Corey Dillon come to mind). The only thing, is a feel like it would be nice to have a veteran guy like Driver to keep Marshall in line – who would do it with Driver gone? Woodson, maybe?

I also agree a bit
He is a bit of a head case, but also one of the best young receivers in the league. It seems like Green Bay would also be a harder place for him to start since with this team there is rarely any internal conflicts or other players with ego/attitude issues.

No! I loved it
It’s something I hadn’t read anywhere. Yes, it might have just been crazy AM radio talk, but I love crazy AM radio talk. Back in April, we were discussing odd Peppers for Kampman trade rumors that came from some AM radio show. The discussion was great in both threads. Although I wouldn’t hope to trade for Marshall, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth considering a trade of a veteran receiver for a young WR who might just need a change of scenery.

Don't think so
I just can’t see this happening. If you look at they players, and situation the trade would actually be a good one. (Driver is aging, and Finley is emerging as our #1 TE, while Marshall is young and some think he could become the next T.O.). But I am completely against them doing this, for two reasons. First off, Rodgers and DD have a GREAT connection. DD might be getting older, but his play still isn’t showing it. I think he has 2-3 years left in him. Plus, DD is just such a class act guy. He always gives 100%, and is a great teammate. The second is Brandon Marshall. He has an attitude problem, especially when it comes to money, and we all know how cheap TT is. He also is in bad shape, and it would probably take him the first few weeks to get in shape. The third thing with Marshall, is he would need to learn our offense, which is a pretty complicated one.

another reason why it wouldnt happen
Green Bay has a lot of money tied up with Jennings now, and to have to give Marshall a big deal would give have a lot of your cap tied up at one position. Green Bay will have to keep that moeny available to start resigning guys in the coming years

Good point
Although with the current uncapped year in 2010, something is going to change by this time next season. The owners won’t allow the uncapped year.

oh brother
you guys are DELUSIONAL if you think Driver and Marshall are anywhere near each other in talent. Marshall is a top 10 WR. Driver is a good possession receiver and maybe during his prime a top 15 receiver but no where near what Marshall is and can be. Pairing him and Jennings would actually give us an INCREDIBLE WR tandem and THEN we could say we have the best WR corps. We have Finley waiting in the wings…why not make the move if it doesn’t cost us more? Sign up Marshall for a few more years and he’ll shape up real fast!
If they don’t make the move, I won’t be crushed but if this deal happened, I would be crazy thrilled!

Driver is considered untouchable by the Fans...
Yes Marshall is considered a top 10 talent but Driver is pretty beloved in Green Bay. Driver has been with the team sense he was drafted in 1999. Driver is the one player that a lot of people want to see retire a Packer.
Remember People’s opinions of Favre changed based on his own actions. Most Packer fans reguard DD pretty highly. Before Favre’s retire speech last year who was the second most popular veteran on the team that would be Driver.
With Favre gone a lot of people see Driver as the veteran leader of the Packers. People will be ten times as ticked if Driver is right now as compared to Favre last year. Driver hasn’t said he wants to retire yet and he has publicly said he wants to retire a Packer.
A lot of people are ticked at Thompson for trading Favre imagine if he also traded Driver. The fan reaction would be pretty bad.
During the fan fest (I think they had in Green Bay in june) Driver said he was friends with T.O. There is nothing wrong with that but Driver has never publicy been seen as that type of Diva like player.
Driver is seen by a lot of fans as the ultimate team player. I am sure by now everyone has heard Favre’s infamous quote about how he is not there to mentor Rodgers or whatever the exact quote was.
Driver is viewed as the older veteran willing to share the limelight with the younger player that is eventually going to take over his role on the team (Jennings). A lot of people won’t be too happy if the Packers traded someone like Driver for a Me, Me, Me type player in Marshall especially a player that has been with the team for 10 years.
A lot of Packer fans are still ticked at Walker. Imagine their reactions to Marshall especially if he took Driver’s place on the team.
Now I think most Packer fans now agree that trading Favre was the right move but trading Driver is a whole different story. The Packers will always have more the one WR on the field so even if DD moves down the depth chart he can still be a # 2 or # 3 WR. It isn’t like the QB position.

Marshall for Donald Driver and Donald Lee?
Specualation. I frankly hope it’s nothing but that. I heard from Denver they are not looking to shop him. I think he’s a great receiver with bad karma ala Ochocinco and T.O.
Driver and Lee are both good karma. Chemistry is very important in the NFL. Do not do this trade!

Marshall's No Top 10 Talent
In order for Denver to get Marshall 1,265 yards and 6 TDs last season, they had to throw the ball to him 181 times. No receiver had more passes intended for him then Marshall. For comparison, Greg Jennings (although he’s a great receiver, he’s barely cracks the top 10) had 1,291 yards and 9 TDs with only 140 pass attempts. That’s a difference of 41 pass attempts for less yards and 50% fewer TDs. 41 pass attempts is 2 to 3 attempts per game, so Denver had to waste 2 to 3 attempts per game just so Marshall could be comparable to Jennings. Many receivers would look a whole lot better if their team threw 181 pass attempts to them.
