Discussions About Signing Michael Vick
The team is doing thorough due diligence on the former NFL quarterback and has had legitimate discussions about the idea of signing him, according to sources.
If QB Michael Vick is signed, what is his role? Do they trade QB Brian Brohm for a draft pick, drop QB Matt Flynn to No. 3, and let Vick backup QB Aaron Rodgers? Are they thinking about running the Wildcat and using him like Miami used RB Ronnie Brown last season which would turn Vick into a wide receiver or running back?

Sign him!!!
he would be extremely cheap. If he doesn’t work out cut him and move on while losing next to nothing. If he does work out he could add a exciting new wrinkle to the offense that could help win a game or two in a very tight division.
The risk/reward ratio is extremely good. Green Bay could handle the media circus thanks to the experience gained from last years Favre debacle.
I can’t think of a much better situation for both the team and Mike Vick than this organization.
Given that he's the first guy
to lead a team to victory during the playoffs at Green Bay, EVER, I say that feat alone should get him a roster spot. Clearly he’s a valuable and talented offensive threat, with great speed and a big arm (at least 2 years ago he was, doubt he lost much)
I salivate when I think of Michael Vick being our backup QB. It would be amazing!
Great Comments!
I’m glad to see folks supporting this possibility. He would be cheap, he would be a part of a stable, fan-oriented franchise, and he has a wealth of experience for the backup quarterback position. I don’t think the team has to develop a bunch of packages for the guy, just let him be the backup QB. If he’s a disruption to the team, if PETA spills blood on the floor at Curly’s, drop him.
I can
Here’s a better idea, CardsD
Let your team sign him.
Isn’t Kurt ‘Pops’ Warner the oldest QB in the league, now that Favre is retired?
Who is going to replace him?
Leinart?
The glass is more than half-full.
Actually,
I intended to post this as a reply to the first comment on this thread, but must have brain-f*rted in doing so.
If there is a way on this site to correct mistakes like that, I’d sure like to know what it is.
The glass is more than half-full.
Which leads to some things...
… that I have been wondering about for some time, now.
What is the ‘actions’ button supposed to do, and how does one give a recommendation to a good comment.
Whenever I have clicked on the ‘actions’ button, nothing seems to have happened.
The only thing that I can think of to explain it is that maybe the internet security settings on my computer are preventing it from doing what it is supposed to do.
???
The glass is more than half-full.
Recommending...
When one clicks that “actions” link, it transforms into two new links: “Flag” (with a little caution street sign on a picture of a page) and “Rec” (with a tiny green up arrow on a pic of a page).
I had the same problem the first time I wanted to recommend a post— one needs to click twice, first on “actions” and then on “Rec”. Also, I have found no way to move an incorrectly placed post, to edit an error after posting, or to delete a post once made. Maybe the moderators of the blog can do those things, but I do not think that we fan posters can.
I hope that helped!
Thank you
In the past, with my slow connection, I must have not waited long enough to see thay happen. I see it now. Thanx.
The glass is more than half-full.
thanks tho
i have been on this blog for a year and a baseball one for 2 years and never knew how to do it either!
Vick's (potential) role
Vick (if signed) wouldn’t be eligible to play until the sixth regular season game though he would be able to practice with the team. I’m not sure of the mechanics, but by the sixth game I’m sure a roster spot would open up for him due to injury or poor performance. If he just wasn’t coming along he (Vick) he could be released.
If I were TT and MM I would split his time between QB and WR training, and use some variation of the Wildcat. That being said, I know he runs in open space well but without the threat of throwing to keep defenders off him I don’t think that he is a natural runnning back. Punt returner or kick returner? I don’t know. Isn’t that how Joe Theisman got his NFL playing time at first?
A career 54% completion average QB? No thanks. Unless you argue that he never had great WRs, ie. Finneran, Peerless Price – Crumpler was his favorite target. I’d rather develop Brohm and Flynn into a real QB. Save the roster spot for areas of need.
The offense is just fine without Vick and the gimmicky wildcat. I’d rather lose without him than win with him – POS
Are you guys serious?
Vick is like a flashy convertible. Unfortunately, we don’t have the room in our garage for him AND it’s always raining where we live.
Basically, despite the excitement he may bring, we don’t need him, nor does he work for us. Don’t get me wrong, he is an incredibly talented player, who can be used in incredibly creative ways. The problem is, I don’t see Mike McCarthy scrambling to come up with some ingenious formation to utilize Vick’s abilities. Our offense works, and there is no sense in fixing something that isn’t broken. With this in mind, Vick on the Packers would simply be another mediocre back-up. If you haven’t noticed, we already have two of those, both of whom are far younger, far more familiar with our system, and far less likely to get crazy protesters picketing at Lambeau. We’re under the radar right now- let’s keep it that way.
On a parting note, Ted Thompson is the most cryptic, secretive SOB out there, save Belichek. Him not ruling out signing Vick means absolutely nothing, and you guys are letting ESPN and NFL Network stir you into a frenzy as the make a big deal out of a none story. Granted, as TT said, it’s not unquestionable, but as of now, I’d be comfortable saying the odds are one out of a hundred.
"stay (green and) gold"
If they want to run the wildcat or play him as an H-back, RB or WR, and he's ok with that...
…. then why not?
But why would he sign up for that? If he signs under those circumstances, he’s essentially giving up on ever being a QB again because if he’s great, that’s all anyone will ever ask him to do, and if he’s not, he’s not only a mediocre QB, but now he’s lost his ability to make big plays.
If they’re looking at him as an actual backup QB, then it’s a bad idea because he’s just not that good and it’s unlikely he’ll ever get much better.

vick
i wouldnt mind signing him but i do not want to listen to the animal rights activists chanting outside lambeau every game.
AR Groups?
Eh, I’m sure some would show up, but I can’t imagine being an AR dweeb and wanting to hang out at a place where about 50,000 tons of various meats are being cooked up…
Having said that, I’d rather take a pass on Vick. He has had mostly mediocre receivers, but we would too if our QB was only completing half his passes.
desperate times indeed
the mere thought of signing michael vick! just shows how desperate you packer fans really are, to ‘try’ to beat the vikings. you should be ashamed of yourselves. first you let your gm and joke of a couch, run a future hall of fame qb out of town, and now to here your comments on bringing vick on board, wow I never thought I’d see the day? lambeau field is hollowed ground even to some vikes fans, and the thought of vick running around in green and gold make me wanna throw-up. the man is a dog killer, or doesn’t that matter, as long as you win? I’ve always had the ut most respect for packer fans, but to here you guys speak about brett the way you do, and now this,I guess the times they are a changing indeed!
YAWN
Take your dribble somewhere else you filthy hypocrite. We all know the Vikings only take individuals of exemplary character…oh wait, who’s your first round pick this year? What’s the Love Boat? Who is Onterrio Smith? Get out of town you friggin joke.

Wow
I have seen some poorly written dribble from trolls in the past, but you actually have a bit of humor, whether intentional or accidental.
~“joke of a couch”— Yes, we Packer fans keep our EZ-Bozo couches well maintained.
~“lambeau field is hollowed ground”— Every Saturday, Packer fans line up to been one of the honored few to dig the holes for the trap doors before Sunday games.
~“I’ve always had the ut”— What’s a ut? (Clearly a “My Cousin Vinny” reference)
~“to here your comments”— Here comment! Here comment! Sit… stay… poop in the Viking horn…
The amazing and sad thing is that your logic is lamer than your grammar. If only you knew how ironic your post title “desperate times indeed” would sound to the world when you typed it. You must make so many of your teachers, relatives, and fellow Viking fans proud.
yawn
there’s a BIG difference between killing dogs, and smoking some weed and boinking some hookers!
whatever
my grammar may be lame, but I’m still smarter than micheal vick. and the humor was no accident.
Have we already forgotten........
MICHAEL VICK IS A CONVICTED FELON!!! This might be worse than the Favre distraction we had last year
sign him !!!!!
granted the peta lovers dont love him. But put it this way if you EVER seen a packers game then you would know that um whats the packers alternate colors, hunter orange maybe? never mind all the fox fur coats and the fox hats that you see every week, I love dogs, But from a football stand point sign him hes probably faster then greg jennings so split him out he might still have a cannon arm, Run Urban Meyer formations hes an athlete that can do it all im sure. Id love to see it happen honestly. As Minnesota Dragqueen fans isnt your head coach a Holmgren Disciple more then likely oh how about Darrell Bevell oh thats right a former Packer,Darren Sharper FMR PACKER see my trend here, Who cares Vick is a convicted felon, Lets go down that path shall we UM Ray Lewis, no one talks about that anymore, Hmmm Kobe what he do right, Dante Stallworth killed a human !!! did less time then Vick, If Peta wants to throw red paint they better have a tanker truck parked outside Lambeau then because You do 3 things in Wisconsin, Hunt, Drink Beer and watch the Packers GO PACK :D
