O-Line

McCarthy gave them a few opportunities to open some running lanes for Grant and he got nothing. He can’t be happy.

Defense did its job

the pressure is getting to Cutler on the first series. Me likey.

Now let’s hope that the offense can find a seam somewhere on the field. Urlacher looks so much faster than last year.

I sure did

by Mitchell Maurer on Sep 13, 2009 8:07 PM CDT reply actions

After one quarter, here's what we know:

The defense is working: Cutler, Forte, and the rest of the Bears can’t get into a rhythm. Cutler in particular looks out of sorts.

The offense is not: Rodgers has displayed some agility in the pocket, but he can’t juke his way out of Adwale Ogunleye’s unabated rush.

Run offense? Non existent thus far.

Where did we rank in rushing offense last year?

It couldn’t have been that good, as Grant took almost half the season to record a 100-yard rushing game.

The offense has produced 6 points and the D has produced 7… Offense hasn’t done crap

by redraidercominatya on Sep 13, 2009 10:26 PM CDT reply actions

When a defense creates three turnovers

and however many punts, the offense simply has to produce.

Not to mention Urlacher, Tinoisamoa, and McBride are out, Tillman is coming off freaking BACK surgery, and we have “the most explosive offense in preseason”.

IF they hold the Bears to 3 and IF they get a good return and IF they can somehow get into FG range and IF Crosby can hit it, they can win.

It feels too much like last year for my comfort.

Jay Cutler,

probably wishing he was throwing to Brandon Stokley right about now

Did you see that catch by Stokley today?

Amazing!

Agreed

good way to start the year

Whaaa???

That game was ugly on both sides of the ball…

by ctowner35 on Sep 13, 2009 10:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Ugly offensive performances, yeah.

But I thought both defenses played pretty well. How much of that was the product of ugly offense? Probably won’t find out until next week.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Sep 13, 2009 10:50 PM CDT up reply actions

that was a highly competitive game

the defenses were very, very good and the offenses struggled because of it

by BleedsbluinMI on Sep 13, 2009 10:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Not on defense

We forced Cutler to throw 4 INTs, and got good pressure on him pretty much the whole game. You better hope your o-line figures out how to pick up the blitz by week 4 because when anyone comes within 4 feet of Favre now he falls down to the ground.

by packallday555 on Sep 13, 2009 11:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Just an FYI:

Jay Cutler is on pace to throw 64 interceptions this season.

That rookie WR for Chicago needs to round about 100 laps for that incredibly weak effort on that last pick.

As a Vikes Fan...

Who fully understands that the Vikes played Cleveland today;

Not as worried about either team…

Good for you.

Bottom line is that if GB can get their RT position squared away, they put up huge points. Barbe was single handedly shutting down drives tonight. I thought GB was their own worst enemy most of the night, with all do respect to Chicago.

And yeah, you beat Cleveland, and it still took you a half to figure them out. They’ve got less talent than either Chicago or GB. If you want to get cocky about that, go ahead.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Sep 13, 2009 10:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Cleveland won 4 games last year

I think 4 wins is their ceiling this year as well

by bheidge on Sep 13, 2009 10:57 PM CDT up reply actions

LOL

Packers won 6 games last year!

Vikes taking the North. Took 4 INT’s from the opposition to pull out a squeaker.

by dsludo on Sep 13, 2009 10:59 PM CDT up reply actions

yes, the defense just lucked into those int's

Vikings will have their hands full with both these teams, esp the way they looked against the JV Browns. Please, please get overconfident coming off today.

Except Packers fans, by beating SF quite easily.

My God

Bears fans are going to be hilarious this week. I can’t wait to see Mike Tirico.

by Donald Driver on Sep 13, 2009 11:11 PM CDT up reply actions

As much as we should be concerned about our O-Line

they should be just as concerned about their defensive backfield. On a night where the Bear Corners and Safeties were afforded ample QB pressure, when it really counted they blew it. Everyone on here thought the Bears had weak defensive backs and we were not disappointed.

What does this have to do with Mike Tirico? If anything he’s a Lions fan, he’s from Detroit.

Woopsie!

I meant Michal Wilbon from PTI; I’m usually just grating at Kornheiser so it’s easy to confuse his two partners. But anyways Wilbon’s a huge Bears fan and he’s got a whole show to spaz out on. Anywho, time to take a look-see at the Bears blog…

Yeah.

It’s not going to be a fun week to be Jay Cutler, though I don’t think that last pick was his fault and the one by Jolly was just a great play by a defender.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Sep 14, 2009 12:09 AM CDT up reply actions

Actually

I live in the DC area and get the Post and FYI Wilbon actually picked the Packers to win.

Grant raised his hand to come out after those 3 runs.

I’m not happy about that either, but it wasn’t like McCarthy pulled him.

Hell's teeth

That was pretty bloody tense. Now I’ll never get to sleep.

When it looked as if the game might be decided on a dodgy call I was mightily pissed off; who’d have bet the moribund offence would choose the last possible moment to prouce sometghing special. Hester spent the whole game lining up off the scrimmage line and was never called on it, so I[m glad we won or I’d be forced to hunt and kill all the refs and I really just don’t have that kind of time spare.

Ah… another drink, I think… :-)

All in all I thought the refs were pretty awful.

It did’t help that the crew chief appeared to be terrified of being on the microphone. Doesn’t exactly instill confidence. And they blew two calls on that illegal contact play alone! That’s hard to do.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Sep 13, 2009 11:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Seconded

I remember a few weeks ago on Brew Crew Ball that on a an analysis done using computers revealed that the Brewers had the most blown calls on pitches in the strike zone in the entire league (something like that, I can’t remember), but I feel like it’s the same thing with Packers. It’s hard to be a Wisconsiner sometimes.

Was Tim Donaghy working the game?

by uglyfatpimplynerd on Sep 14, 2009 1:05 AM CDT up reply actions

I woke up

listening to one of your local stations (god bless the internet!) and they were saying the winning play was originally supposed to be a Grant run, but Jennings lined up on the wrong side so Rodgers was forced to call a TO. Then the pass play was called but even then Jennings was the secondary receiver.

The safety telegraphing his intention made up Rodgers’ mind and the rest is sweet, sweet recent history…..
