Friday Injury Report: Bengals at Green Bay Packers

More photos » Winslow Townson - AP

We've been discussing the loss of S Atari Bigby in a couple different posts this week, so that's familiar territory. My take is that although Bigby is better than his replacement, S Aaron Rouse, there's not much difference between the two.

RB Brandon Jackson is going to miss his 3rd straight game (going back to the preseason) because of the ankle injury he suffered during the Arizona game, which again will leave RB DeShawn Wynn as the only running back behind RB Ryan Grant.

LG Daryn Colledge and NT B.J. Raji both are listed as questionable, but it seems like Mike McCarthy expects them to play. They're both game time decisions. Everyone else on the injury list should be good to go.

Obviously the biggest name on the Bengals' injury report is No. 6 overall pick OL Andre Smith. After a lengthy holdout, he broke his foot in his first or second practice as a Bengal. LG Nate Livings started last week, but he's out with a knee injury and OL Evan Mathis is expected to start in his place. They'll get some depth back as OL Scott Kooistraborn in Madison, WI, returns for the first time in a while from his knee injury. CB David Jones would probably be the nickel cornerback, if he wasn't out with a broken foot, so the Bengals might struggle against multiple receiver sets. Those aren't household names, but the Bengals are missing two starters and a top backup.

Question.

Isn’t it rather dangerous to go into a football game carrying only 2 RBs? Is there a way to bring up a practice squad back just for one week, it seems like that wouldnt be a bad idea considering Wynn has never been exactly injury free?

Kuhn played HB in college

He is probably the emergency halfback.

Kuhn

He was a great HB at Ship and would be fine if they both went down

somewhat OT but,

am i the only person in the world that thinks urlacher could just put one of those huge ass casts on his wrist and still play? sure he would have trouble catching/intercepting, the the man IS the bears’ defense. just seems like he pussied out to me

But if you self-loathing- sad-bastard-fuckhammers see that as "appropriate", well, then… I suggest you go fuck yourself while nick swisher looks on, completely unfucked. - SkanchoDanza

Have you listened to ANY 670 the Score talk this week?

they had to bring a hand doctor onto the B&B show to settle this argument because people had been calling in constantly saying the same thing you are. The answer is that it is a dislocated wrist…not a broken wrist. Meaning his hand technically fell off for a period of time. This is an extremely serious injury, thats why they rushed him into surgery Monday morning. There is even a possibility he will never be able to lift weights with that hand again. This wont be a career ending injury but it could be a hampering injury for the rest of his life, that may keep him from playing up to his ablity for the rest of his career. So in answer No he is not being a pussie, as much as I hate him and dislike the Bears that just is not true.

the score barely reaches des moines, so no.

i didnt realize it was that serious. thanks you for the facts dude! also, despite the severity of the injury i laughed kinda hard when you said his hand actually fell off for a bit. i pictured the hand on the field, as a 12th man.

ha yeah,

I cant imagine the pain from that. But hey it helps the Packers out because the Bears are now starting Hunter Hillenmeyer in his place…good luck with that Lovie

It's the type of break

From Will Carroll:

The fact you need to know is that the Bears medical staff was unable to reduce (pop back into place) the bone until surgery. Even then, sources tell me that the surgeon had to use the equivalent of a medical crowbar to push it back in. This wasn’t a simple dislocation; this is what happens when someone with Urlacher’s build and injury history takes that much force in just the wrong way.
Some players can break a bone in their hand, like Nick Barnett did in 2006, and play with a cast. I’m sure Urlacher would have been willing to try it. But there’s no way he should have risked coming back.

Jackson

I am a touch disappointed the team chose to keep B.Jackson/Winn over that rookie they cut (forgot his name already) or Lumpkin. The kid brought a change of pace a bit and showed more potential. I know Jackson is very capable but he’s not a change of pace or a game changer. The kid looked like he could. Closest thing to Sproles that GB has had on the roster in ages. Jackson and Winn are basically the same guy with a different number on the back of the uniform. Steady and dependable. Good traits but not real exciting.

Losing Sutton

The injury to Jackson makes it look bad for the moment, and I’m a fan of Sutton, but I’m a fan of Jackson too. As a runner, Jackson and Sutton look very similar, although Sutton got more chances against 3rd stringers late in the preseason games so his preseason stats look much better. I think Sutton and Jackson were battling for the 3rd down back role, and Wynn and Lumpkin for a big back/early down role. I had read comments from training camp practices that Sutton had some trouble in pass blocking, which is the 1st thing Mike McCarthy asks his 3rd down backs, and if that’s the case then Jackson over Sutton looks clearer.
