Casey Hampton
So I was just over on the Pride of Detroit, and ran across an interesting thread. Apparently the Steelers are strongly considering releasing Casey Hampton, who has been their NT for the last couple years in their 3-4 defense. I'm sure you guys now know where I'm going with this..If we have any chance to possibly pick this guy up, we should definitely do it. He is a proven NT in the 3-4, and is probably the best one in the league. I know our d-lineman all have looked great, but signing Hampton could give us some unbelieveable depth. Imagine Jenkins at RE, Hampton at NT, and Raji at LE. Then Pickett, and Jolly coming off of the bench. I have a hard time believing the Steelers would really release Hampton because he is such a great player, but this link backs this rumor up.

Won't Happen
I was wondering if there was anything to that rumor. Hampton’s had some injury problems in recent seasons, and I’m sure he’s got a big contract. I don’t follow the Steelers closely, so I had no idea. But Behind The Steel Curtain says it won’t happen, and Hampton’s still one of their best players.
Coax
Cletidus Hunt out of retirement. I think I saw him working down at Farley’s Car Wash. He looks like he’s in good shape, too. Maybe Gabe Wilkins and Earl Dotson can join up as well.
Had a hard time really believing it
He is still a great player, and he is the key to their dominant run defense. It would be a huge mistake for the Steelers to drop him, but if they did I would hope TT would at least look into snatching him up. Having a good run defense is something good to have in our division, and he would instantly make us better in that aspect of the game.

Seems like that wouldn’t be TT style…he goes after younger guys with many years left. Hampton is like 32 now so that is getting up there for his tastes. He would certainly add a certain presence to that line though…instant success on the D line if he was there. I think they are happy with Pickett though so I doubt it will happen.
He did
Go after Woodson though when he was like 30. I think their happy with Pickett as well, but Hampton is on another level. Regardless, I think we’ll be fine on the d-line.

not a GREAT comparison though...
Keep in mind, Woodson was deemed “done with” and no one was touching him. He was had at a HUGE bargain which is what Thompson loved about him. High high upside at a bargain price. If hampton hits the market he’ll get offers from a few teams and will likely have his choice of destinations. I wasn’t saying there is NO way he’d do it but it would be a surprise to me if he did!
Good point
I just think he would be interested in coming here because of our switch to the 3-4 defense. I think TT would possibly be willing to give him a bigger contract as well because our only question on defense really is the run defense. Signing Hampton would pretty much take care of our run defense, plus he he could be a good mentor to Raji, who will likely take over the NT position soon. I know it’s kind of a longshot, but I would love to see it happen haha.

The Steelers' to release Casey Hampton?
Stranger things have happened, but, I don’t see it. You mean the Steelers’, certainly one of the best run franchises in all pro sports, wouldn’t at least try to trade him? Come on, I’m all for the “Easter bunny” and Santa Claus but, don’t believe this for a second.
Haha like I said
I didn’t believe for a second when I first came across it on the Lions blog, but the link says otherwise, and you can also go to Yahoo! sports, and look under the Steelers news, and there is an article about them possibly releasing him as well. I still think it’s unlikely but like you said stranger things have happened.
