On WR Chad 85

I've been trying to ignore the name "Ochocinco" for the last week. Who was hurt when he changed his name to a number? Even when he's planting fans in the end zone, he's bringing some showmanship to the No Fun League, which spends too much time worrying about an unsportsmanlike penalty for doing a Rooney slide in London and worrying about Twitter and worrying about cheerleaders and whatever else it's worrying about. But every time I see "Ochocinco" I think: what an idiot.

I offer the following evidence in rebuttal:

Terrell Owens.

Objection.

Chad85 is not a good WR anymore. In fact he is the defentition of an average NFL WR in the past 2 years. While with T.O. at least he has the numbers in the past couple of years to some-what backup his stupidity.

He led the AFC in reception yards for 4 of the last 5 years.

Had one down year, and is averaging 90 yards per game (albeit 2 games) so far this year… Average WR? I think not.

Denied.

It is not a question of who is a better receiver. It is a question of who is a bigger tool.

Yes, Ocho is a clown. But if I were faced with both him and TO, and could only give the finger to one of them, I’d give it to Owens.

haha

but yeah TO is not that great WR anymore.. heck last year he couldnt even catch the ball! Didnt he have like 10+ drops?

It's true.

I’m not a fan of Chad Johnson. I think he’s a tool. But Owens is a bigger tool, and Johnson’s never illegally carried a firearm into bar, for instance. (That I know of.) But I don’t think we should congratulate him on being less of a tool than Owens or not being a criminal. Our standards should be higher than that.

And every time I think “well, he seems like he behaves himself off the field”, I remember that charity raffle he held where people bought tickets thinking they had a chance to win a car only to see Johnson give the car to his girlfriend without a drawing…

Never heard about that.

Wow. What a tool.

Neither did I

But I don’t believe everything I read on the internet.

I know it probably bugs you

But honestly, the guy does it his own way, good or bad. I know a lot of purists term it a distraction, but one or two loose cannons can be amusing at times. It’s just a problem when you have one or two per TEAM.

As for planting fans, I personally think it was a brilliant move by Chad. And, imagine how elated those fans were.

But really, what else do you expect from a man whose name can be initialed to COC?

I understand

But, if you remove yourself from the emotions of the loss, it is my understanding the there were four Bengal fans involved who got a once in a once lifetime experience in a meet and greet, reimbursment for their tickets and autographed momoribilia (sp?). He also has publicly stated that he did not want to insult the GB tradition by jumping into GB fans in an “in.your face” move. It was all in good fun. I saw 4 people have a great experience and Ididn’t see anyone hurt. You guys are over reacting. In a way it was more of an honor to your tradition. BTW, he had a pretty good day for the “definition of an average WR”. Seem a bit like sour grapes to me and you guys are better than that. I know. I was there and met a lot of very classy GB fans. I’m just saying.

That's a fair point about the Bengal fans.

But you don’t think that planting your own fans in the corner of the endzone and jumping into the stands is an “in your face move”? I don’t really doubt he meant it to be “in good fun” but his judgment’s a little shaky on that issue if you ask me. I think he’s a self-aggrandizing ass, personally, and I think he should probably spend more time playing up to his abilities instead of continuing to create this persona he can use to market himself. He’s certainly not the biggest ass in the NFL and so far he’s more productive than last year.

And let’s not pretend that Johnson was going out of his way to give those fans that special moment. They were there because he needed them and not because he’s a nice guy doing nice things for folks out of the goodness of his heart.

In short, they were props and not much different than TO’s popcorn, Joe Horn’s cell phone or a spiked football from Johnson’s perspective.
