Packers Sign G Stanley Daniels; Release T Dane Randolph
As it says in the title; G Stanley Daniels was added to the practice squad, and T Dane Randolph was released. Randolph made it until the final cuts of the preseason, but was just added recently when T Jamon Meredith was signed off the practice squad by the Bills.
Not much to go on with Daniels. Some here from NFL Draft Scout, and more here from Scout.com. He sounds like a big (6'4" and 328 lbs.) and strong interior lineman. He was signed after he worked out on Monday.
Not a major move, but it does show some concern about depth on the left side of the line. Randolph had played exclusively on the right side at tackle during the preseason, while Daniels spent the preseason backing up former Pro Bowl LG Alan Faneca for the Jets. If the ankle injury to LT Chad Clifton gets worse, then they would have the option to promote Daniels to provide depth on the left side of the line.

Was really hoping for a bigger move
than a practice squad guy. We’ve got them money why not just grab a few FAs (the best of the best out there) and give em a try. Honestly can we do much worse???
Disappointing
Was hoping we were going to bring Jones in but it’s looking like that’s not gonna happen. I know we have guys to sign at the end of this year but we have like 23 million in cap room. Using 2 or 3 million of it isn’t the end of the world.

It is if the guy ends up sucking
It’s easy to throw away 2-3 million on someone when it’s not your money…
Honestly
I think almost any FA RT would be better then Barbre. How about Tauscher or Runyan? We wouldn’t have to pay either of them a lot seeing as how no one else seems to want them.
Whatever we’re paying Barbre is being thrown away because he is horrid.

Tauscher
is probably not 100% .. I loved Tausch and would like to have him back, but he torn his ACL i believe in the last 4 or so weeks of the season. A torn ACL usually takes about a year to fully recover from and someone with his size and weight would probably be even longer.
Yes, but 1 mistake is better than 2 mistakes, in theory
I’m not saying we SHOULDN’T sign anyone, but let’s not get antsy that the first couple of guys we’ve looked at we haven’t signed. There is a reason most are not on the sidelines on Sunday afternoon.
Do you have anyone in mind?
Besides Mark Tauscher, I am not aware of any street free agents who are even moderately interesting.

Were there any interesting ones back in March?
I’ve been kicking around every February and March rumor for the past three seasons, and I haven’t been disappointed in any of the free agents the Packers missed out on. If there ever was a great free agent, like Albert Haynesworth, he’d cost too much and then the team would be terrified when their $100 million man has to undergo an MRI.
They’d be better off trying to swing a trade; not that I know of any interesting targets.
The only LT
that comes to mind from this past offseason ws Orlando Pace. But he seems to be over the hill.. and I dont remember how much the bears are paying for him.
We'll be throwing alot more away if Rodger's gets hurt....
… beacuse our season will be over, and we’ll be paying everyone on the team to NOT win a superbowl…
