Open Thread: Cardinals at Saints
I still don't have the stomach to watch this game. And I still expect the Saints to win.
For the Cardinals: WR Anquan Boldin is still likely out, though that did nothing to slow them down last week. This week the Cardinals might go to the run and exploit the Saints' soft run defense. Revenge of the Birds would like to see them run more too in hopes of avoiding another shootout.
For the Saints: They've resigned the Deuce for this game, which isn't a bad move since he's obviously familiar with the offense and RB Mike Bell and RB Pierre Thomas are hurting. Over at Canal Street Chronicles they are hoping the Saints score early (and presumably often) and win the turnover battle.

Figure I'll point out
that Deuce wasn’t brought in to play, at least not this week.
He is an “honorary captain”, and the guy who will lead the charge onto the field. That is all.

Yeah...
Deuce has two bum knees, can’t give it a go any more…he’s had more surgeries on those knees that Heidi Montag has had on her boobs

In a weird way...
I am rooting for the Cardinals. I wanna say that we lost to the eventual super bowl champions twice in 3 years…both losses being overtime losses.
If the cardinals get blown out, it means we probably weren’t going too far anyways.
by PackFaninFL on Jan 16, 2010 2:55 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I don't know about that
If we had played even a LITTLE defense, we could have won that game. Unfortunately the coaching staff thought doing the same thing twice in a row would actually work.

yea i want AZ to win, so that hopefully IF the Vikings do win tomorrow they will have homefield in a rematch next week. & Brett can go on and do what he has to. & Hey, if the Vikings do win the Super Bowl, theyre winning their one and only championship with the best player of their rival team. They need a Packer to contend for a Super Bowl, so if he does win it I have no problem with it.
Now…flame away! I can take it

I dig that!
Hey I still like Brett , the player, not the person (then again, I don’t know any of these guys personally, right?). But in the back of EVERY single Viking fan—EVERY SINGLE ONE— they are thinking “damn, is we win our one and only championship, it will be with the greatest player in GB history at the helm”.
You are right, the punchline is they needed a Packer to win the championship! lol.
Hell Yeah that would taint it for them. They’ll deny it though.
by PackFaninFL on Jan 16, 2010 3:09 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
exactly my point. Bretts my boy and always will be so Ill always support him. And if they win they win with a Packer leading them to their 1st and LAST LOMBARDI Trophy. (& PS – Then Fran Tarkenton can shut the F#$K UP about Favre). & Youre right, theyll deny it and say AP & Harvn carried them to a title while Favre only threw for 33 scores & 7 INTs…

I doubt any Cards fan would stick up for Adams. It seemed like Henderson should have had an advantage, making a break on the ball or drawing a flag, but he didn’t do it. The pass looked like it was in the right spot.

Is that the Saints would not have gotten a free preview of our defense the week before

Coverage
I haven’t noticed any PI, but I’m not really watching either. It doesn’t seem like the pass rush is that much better, Warner is getting rid of the ball pretty fast, but the Saints aren’t getting any “coverage” from guys like Brandon Underwood, Jarrett Bush and the linebackers. They aren’t confused by the Cards formations.

here comes...
…the triple dagger…
by PackFaninFL on Jan 16, 2010 5:57 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Would the Packers get blown out 14-45?
The Packers’ special teams could have folded like the Cardinals, though the Packers had been better down the stretch. The Packers’ 3 turnovers last week were unusual, they had been leading the league by a mile with a +24 margin during the regular season, and those two Cards turnovers have led to 2 TDs. I don’t think they would have done much (if any) better against the Saints offense, but their offense would have kept up better. It would certainly be closer.
by Brandon on Jan 16, 2010 6:04 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I dunno
The Cards and Packers are a lot more similar than we would’ve thought a couple of weeks ago. Component by component the teams are close to identical. Pick a position or section and you can find an analog. I know we’d like to think we’d done well, but I can’t find much basis for such thoughts.
We were definitely good at capitalizing on mistakes, but the Saints have not made many mistakes today.
by Danwood on Jan 16, 2010 6:08 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Depends if the defense shows up. But the injuries in the secondary don't quite help that.
I like our offense to be honest. It seems like in big games, Rodgers will do everything to claw and scratch his way back into the game. But I don’t think our chances are that good seeing what the Saints have unleashed on the Cards. This team looks deadly scary.
