Gaines Adams Passes Away At 26
From SB Nation.com:
We have awful news to pass along. On Sunday morning, Gaines Adams of the Chicago Bears was taken to the emergency room in Greenwood, South Carolina, and later pronounced dead. The cause of death has not yet been reported.
Here's some more from Windy City Gridiron.
The No. 4 overall pick in 2007 was traded by the Buccaneers to the Bears during the season for Chicago's 2010 2nd round pick. He was often left inactive by the Bears and only had 7 tackles in 10 games for them.

Man what a bummer...
Young age. Too young. Sheesh.
Cause of Death
It has been reported that Adams’ cause of death was cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart, and has been confirmed by a preliminary autopsy.
RIP Gaines Adams

I’ll be curious to hear more about this enlarged heart. There are things that cause that but it could also be just a condition he had. Either way, as a 32 year old, hearing about a 26 year old dying of a heart attack is pretty humbling. Our time could come anyday…are you ready for that? Yikes.
Not common, but it happens
Cardiomyopathy is not unheard of in young people. If it’s something you’re born with like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, you probably won’t live long. My brother died pretty much like Adams at 23.

Awful
Very sad, and very hard on the family.

Sad news
I live near Tampa (Lots of Packers fans here by the way) and while I never heard anything bad about his off field activities, he was constantly abused and blamed for everything ( Anthropogenic Continental Drift……It’s Gaines Adams fault) on the local yokel AM radio sports shows over his on the field performances and injury history.
RIP Gaines.
Hey hey I got an idea. Lets play "I Never." You got to drink if you did the thing that the person says they never did...
Before he was drafted
He admitted to smoking pot. I haven’t heard anything negative since and the local Radio guys, especially the afternoon ones like Steve Duemig who come on after Rome would have been all over it-they blasted Sapp for days after he was riding with a friend who got pulled over and the Police found pot in the car…Duemig in particular is all over anything negative with any of the local sports teams from guys coaching 10 year olds on up to the Bucs or Lightning…I read that the autopsy showed Adams had an enlarged heart, so who knows.
