Cushing wins Defensive Rookie of the Year; Matthews 3rd

Call me a homer all you'd like but the fact that he only received 3 votes just boggles my mind. I understand he started slow due to injuries but placing 3rd just seems like a completely shafting. I have no doubt that Cushing doesn't deserve the award, but I do believe the voting should have/ could have been closer. In case you don't have time to read the link, the voting went as follows: Cushing 39 votes, Byrd (Buf) 6 votes, Matthews 3 votes, Orakpo 2 votes

One side note, anyone else notice that the person that received more Pro Bowl votes (Orakpo) recieved less DROY votes, just found that somewhat interesting as well.

Putting this to a vote but who does APC feel should have have been voted DROY???

I have no problem with Cushing winning...

I do agree that the voting could have been closer, but Cushing put up alot more numbers than Matthews. I’ll be upset if Woodson dosen’t with the DMVP, he should have a better chance than Matthews.

cwood

better win.

Everyone is talking about Revis, but that is crap.

cwood played every position and dominated games. I will be pissed if he doesnt win.

while I don’t mind taht Matthews didn’t win, I thought he’d get more recognition than THREE votes!!

Screw that

The only thing I care about is if the put a ring on their finger at the end of the year. If they are hoisting up the lombardy trophy, I’m pretty sure we’ll forget the 3 votes.

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Well thanks for that captain obvious! :-) I couldn’t agree more but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see OUR guys getting recognized. I guess this will keep him under the radar then!

It’s hard to argue against Cushing or Byrd winning. Cushing had 134 tackles and Byrd had 9 INTs. Matthews had 6 more sacks then Cushing but 84 less tackles haha. Obviously Matthews didn’t start until week 4 I believe so that makes a bit of a difference but still.

Even if he didn’t win it doesn’t change the fact that he is going to be an absolute stud. The guy had 10 sacks in 12 starts. He is only going to get better next year, and will probably become an elite pass rusher in this league.

I agree with all of you

I didn’t mean for my post to come across like I though he got robbed by not winning DROY, I just thought he did enough to make the vote a little closer. I do think Cushing was very deserving and Byrd would have been a good candidate as well. I was more or less surprised by the margin that Cushing won, not so much in Matthews not winning. All that being said we have a very special player on our hands and are very lucky he is a Packer and doesn’t play for any other team

on a side note...

i’m sure its a little tough on some voters for a team to have the DROY when in all likelyhood (he better get it) Woodson should be your DPOY. But thats a different topic for a different day.

Clay can get his revenge against the voters...

Cushing deserved it, but Clay has been on a top 5 D and he has been a major reason why it is a top 5 D. And he does have something the others do not…. a team in the playoffs! Hopefully he will show the voters up and have a huge postseason.

I concur.

Wishing Clay would have been 2 on the list, but Cushing deserved it.

DROY

Matthews had a great season and I have no problem w/ Cushing winning. He had better overall numbers than Matthews. However Matthews didn’t start until week 4, and really didn’t play until then either… Not to mention that Matthews has gotten better every week and has played his best ball in the most meaningful games down the stretch. That along w/ the fact that Matthews is on a Top 5 Defense, and the fact that Cushing is at home right now SHOULD have garnered Matthews alot more than 3 votes!!!

The injustice isn’t so much that he didn’t win, but that he really didn’t get the respect he deserved… Hopefully, he’ll take it as disrespect and use the Post Season as his way to make his case!!!
