Saturday Wild Card Games Open Thread
Normally I do an injury report, but it's a pretty short list this week. According to Greg Bedard, special teams ace SS Derrick Martin will probably be out for the Green Bay Packers, and everyone else not on I.R should be available. Also from Greg Bedard, the Cardinals will either be without WR Anquan Boldin or he'll be certainly less than 100%, while all their other injured players will play including S Antrel Rolle (who was out last week) and DE Calais Campbell (who had hand surgery on Monday).
Way to go Wisconsin Badgers basketball team! They beat previously undefeated No. 4 Purdue at the Kohl Center. It's very tough to beat the Badgers on their home floor.
Pete Carroll to the Seahawks? I was surprised that this move isn't sitting well with the fans over at Field Gulls. At first I was unimpressed since Carroll's only real talent seems to be as a recruiter. But anyone is an improvement over Jim Mora.
First up today is the Jets at Bengals. Here's the full SB Nation preview. I like the Jets in this game because their defense is better and I don't think either team will have much offense.
Tonight is the one NBC is hoping gets monster ratings: Eagles at Cowboys. Here's the full SB Nation preview. Can QB Donovan McNabb stink that bad two weeks in a row? I expect the Cowboys will win because QB Tony Romo has been avoiding turnovers lately, and the Cowboys' defense has been great in two recent games against other playoff teams (the Eagles last week and the Saints a couple weeks ago).

If you have a RB like Jones, why would you not use him in that wild cat, I would think he would hit the holes harder

Both challenges were ruled as catches
And that ruling was upheld. I thought the first one would fall under the G2G rule that we talked about earlier.

Jets score a TD
This NBC crew is attempting to ruin the playoffs feel this game should have. They’re bad. Very bad.

It's a product of their environment
Cincinnati fans are probably still confused about this game: “What happened to the 1:00 games? Why aren’t any other teams playing today?”

Forget that, the play-by-play guy is ubber-anti-climaxic
He sounded more excited reading the sponsors’ slogans than calling a TD catch.

I turned my volume down
I was as impressed as hell with Feely though. I mean, he makes a 42 yarder, offsides, then he makes the 52 yarder (offsides again) then he punts and it’s inside the 10. I wish we had a kicker like that
Just got home.
From what I saw on NBC, the guys calling this game were really bad.
Oh, and Jets 21, Bengals 7

Hey, guys, mind some company?
The Packers have always been my second favorite team by far.
Temporarily a good game again after that TD by Benson. Thiesman is painful to listen to, as always.
The Bengals ae in trouble still, methinks.
Of course, feel free to join in.

Why is Theismann working?
I was overjoyed when I heard he would no longer be polluting the airwaves on ESPN, and then NBC gives him a gig? The guy is duller than dishwater.

Evening/morning to you
I’m really hoping yje Cowboys game improves on this. Two uninspiring teams playing right now…
Thanks.
I guess the Bengals are proving me wrong. I thought they had the edge after holding back last week while the Jets played all their cards. I still figure that either of these teams will lose their next game next weekend.
Absolutely.
The Bengals really haven’t been the same for weeks. This is a little surprising, though.

The Packers should win.

The Cowboys are marching up & down the field.
But the drives keep petering out due to penalties. The Eagles haven’t looked very good.
That one's gonna cost the Eagles
PI on Sheldon Brown. 1st and goal at the 4.

No doubt.
It’s often sated that there are several teams each year who are good enough to go the distance, and often the healthiest team finds themselves there. It sure is a lucky break, as ino one can control it.

It's turning ugly
The Eagles remind me of the Packers from weeks 1-8. They rely too heavily on the deep bombs and the O-Line can’t keep up. McNabb is harassed like Rodgers was. If they keep calling deep and long-developing routes they’ll have not shot at a rally.

The big difference there
Is we still had Grant to keep opposing teams honest. This Eagles team has no running threat at all.

Packers handled the Cowboys once this year already.
However, they are a team I’d rather not see if possible. Hot!

Better than beating them this time
would be to make them watch you play from their homes, eh?
by coltsfanawalt on Jan 9, 2010 8:39 PM CST up reply actions
what I don't get
is it’s the fricken playoffs, Jackson is explosive on returning kicks and punts and yet he is not used……….
Unless we see a HUGE comeback in the 2nd half,
This is an underwhelming evening of wild-card. Replays of last week, and bad replays at that.
The Dude abides
It's been
poor fare tonight, hasn’t it? Both CB and PE have been mightily underwhelming…
Good sign that the teams who won last week are winning the rematch as well.

I really didn’t think it would be this bad (meaning the Cowboys would thump them). I expected a closer game with a Cowboys’ victory. But man!
Good luck next week in Minnesota. Your team is hot right now and should match up well against the Vikings. I am rooting for you to win that! Good luck and thanks for the support.
