Monday Night Open Thread: Titans at Jaguars

It's a big divisional game for both the Titans and Jaguars, but I don't follow either team with any interest. Maybe it'll be nice to see how DE Aaron Kampman is playing in his return to a 4-3 scheme. The Titans look like one of the better teams in the AFC, while the Jaguars are inconsistent (winning 3 close games and getting crushed by the Chargers and Eagles in two losses).

Rangers up 2-0 if anyone cares

in the 3rd… Cliff Lee is normally pretty lights out in NY. Hopefully that trend continues.

by Fiesta on Oct 18, 2010 8:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Jeter has good career numbers against Lee, I'll grant you that

but can one man carry a team? Just ask the 2008 Brewers who rode CC Sabathia like a horse into the wild card. Jeter may be enough, but I wouldn’t put money on it.

I only care about one thing in baseball

and that is the Yankees losing. Don’t give a damncrap about anything else in the MLB. Might as well be the NBA for all I care.

What are the odds that Chris Johnson

gets fewer than 60 yards and no TD? Cause if he gets more I lose in fantasy football unless Tennessee’s D does something(s) really special.

Slim to none.

He’s so stinkin’ good. The only way I see that happening is if he goes out with an injury.

Except that VY came out with a knee injury toward the end of the quarter. so it could be a very different game in the next 3.

I saw ESPN reporting on that earlier today

Does anyone else think it would be cool if the NFL refs ejected players like MLB umps, and ejected players for helmet to helmet hits, whining about calls and anything else like that? I think that’d be awesome.

there would be a pretty realistic chance it’d be for the packers (if this blog is to be believed). You’d be hearing a lot of ‘that guy’ still :)

disagree

I love how the two sports barely overlap. I can follow the Brewers in the NFL off season and the Packers in the MLB off season. It lines up almost perfectly, and I have a sport I’m interested in year round.

I understand that MLB is an acquired taste for many (I didn’t like it until I worked in a paper mill that only got sports radio, so I heard about 120 Brewers games a year), but I find my football fandom and my baseball fandom sync perfectly.

by Fiesta on Oct 18, 2010 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Baseball blows. And the NFL will too if they get rid of the salary cap and the revenue sharing.

by I voted for Kodos on Oct 18, 2010 8:42 PM CDT up reply actions

I can’t believe everyone automatically assumes a key free agent IS going to the Yankees. Don’t these teams have spines? There’s no reason the Brewers can’t end all this speculation and sign Fielder while he’s still under contract.

I honestly hope they don't

Prince’s contract would cripple the Brewers in 3-4 years. I’d prefer to see him go than stay, unless he signs a major hometown discount, and as a Boras client, you know he wont. But that’s another conversation better served cold and frosty over at Brew Crew Ball.

by Fiesta on Oct 18, 2010 9:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I see no good that comes from having Fielder go out of town for nothing. That would just be a gigantic mistake. Keep him in town, maybe swing Sandoval out of the deal or something (I really like Sandoval; Fielder and he would give the Brewers the heaviest infield in MLB!)…

Packers would have a hard time surviving without revenue sharing

We just don’t have a big enough local market to get the $$$$$$.

I thought he was awesome when I was a kid but quickly soured on him. Seemed like an act. The cheap shots he took are no longer considered cool once you’ve suffered a few concussions of your own.

by I voted for Kodos on Oct 18, 2010 9:00 PM CDT reply actions

I used to work with some of the old football players at golf tournaments.

Seeing some of them barely able to walk and talk properly, it pains me. I think the NFL needs to crack down on the malicious hits. I can understand the short term “excitement” factor, but that does not outweigh the lifetime impacts that concussions have on people.

Hrm good point.

I don’t know if the Cowboys ever feel if they are out of it though. They have a lot of in their division games, so they could make up ground if they get on a roll. I would rather Deangelo Williams if possible, even as a rental. :)

by Bush League All Star on Oct 18, 2010 9:18 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree about preferring Williams

but if we can’t get him, I’d still be excited about getting Barber, and we’d have him for another 2 years. Imagine the Grant-Barber-Rodgers-Finley 1-2-3-4 punch? It’d be similar to what the Jets have going on this year, but with a (debatably) better passing game.

Sitton has been pretty good.

I guess the best measure of how good or talented a lineman can be is how little commentary he gets during a game. Although some do get praise, I almost think that it is a good thing to not be noticed because that means you are doing your job.
