Sunday Late Games - Open Thread

It didn't look like a great slate of games this morning, but this afternoon is not any better with only three games in the afternoon. The NFL was probably hoping the Patriots at Chargers would be a playoff preview, but the Chargers losing record is cooperating so far. The Cardinals at Seahawks doesn't sound appealing, but it could actually decide which team makes the playoffs this year (the NFC West does get an automatic bid after all).

Sadly, it's not CBS' call

NFL television rules dictates they have to do that unless you were an original audience for the OT game.

by Danwood on Oct 24, 2010 3:28 PM CDT up reply actions

But why?

If you’re not in the home market for the next game, then why can’t CBS make the call?

Why?

I don’t know, it defies logic. However, usually the later game is a marquee matchup so it might be the case of the NFL wanting to show off their best game

I always thought the NFL was smarter than MLB

Well, they almost have to be, if only by not being MLB, but that’s just plain dumb.

They're smarter by luck only

Remember, they are the league that pays people to hit other players as hard as they can and then fines them afterwards for doing a good job.

It depends on who has what game that day

If you’ve never been to the506.com, they explain why certain markets get certain games (well, in the comments, because people ask).

http://the506.com/sports/?p=458

Essentially, this weekend CBS has the double header and Fox has the single game. Therefore, you get only the late game on Fox since Fox is only allowed to show one game this week. Again, stupid NFL rules.

Just be glad they sold out. If they hadn’t, you’d not had a single game on Fox this weekend.
