Packers Game Ball: Packers Beat The Vikings, 28-24
I could suggest we hand out several game balls to the Green Bay Packers for their win over the Vikings, but I had to narrow it down. Who should have gotten a nomination instead?

While these were all good choices...
I think the game ball should go the offensive line for doing a pretty durn good job (0 sacks!). And perhaps to Chad Clifton especially, for completely shutting down that mullet-wearing douche, Jared Allen.

My thoughts exactly.

go away troll
The refs didn’t make Brett Favre throw three interceptions. The refs missed holding on Clay Matthews several times and Frank Walker yanking on our receivers all game. Quit whining. You lose a close game, you don’t blame the officiating. If your team is that good, officiating doesn’t matter and the Packers, when you look at the statistics, won the game in every regard.
No troll here.
But pleas tell me how one can reconcile:
A) the 2nd TD pass from AR that clearly landed out of bounds.
b) the TD pass to Shank that was overturned for some reason…the ball didn’t move at all.

a. butt hit the ground first, that’s what counts
b. tip of the ball hit the ground. As Calvin Johnson found out, it’s a “process”.

This is why you Vikings are so ridiculous
Frank Walker absolutely held and borderline mugged greg jennings on the interception…he would have had a TD… Greg Jennings got a horrible call on the 3rd down when the ref spotted the ball a half yard in front…it should have been a first down and game over.

Bad calls can only impact the Vikings, and nobody else. And if they lose, it’s obviously because..

C) All of the above (This is the most likely scenario)

New Orleans
Last month a guy told me that the NFL had the refs fix the game because New Orleans winning the Super Bowl would show the world that the city is back. I didn’t have the heart to say it, but my thoughts were 1) How does a football team winning show that the city is back? 2) Why would the NFL wait so long to do this? 3) Does this mean the New England Patriots won after 9/11 because the NFL wanted the world to know that patriots (American variety, of course) will always win?
What can I say? You can’t fix stupid, so I just shook my head and said, “Hmm.”

With Vikings fans, the only bad calls that matter are ones that go against Minnesota. Bad calls made against the other team are good calls which have no bearing on the outcome of the game.

Yeah
It pains me to read their stuff sometimes… My personal favorite from last night was them thinking they got screwed over by the Quarless TD even though they didn’t challenge it but telling us we need to “Suck up and take” the premature whistle on the 2nd Kuhn 4th and 1 run. Seriously… if we have to suck that up when we don’t even have the option of challenging they need to suck up the TD pass when they were allowed to challenge but didnt
by Goldenarmadillo4 on Oct 25, 2010 1:47 PM CDT up reply actions
Two things
1. Chilly didn’t challenge. The touchdown to Harvin in the last 20 seconds was initially ruled a touchdown as well, but instant replay was there to overturn it. I thought it was iffy either way.
2. The TD pass to Shiancoe was incomplete by NFL rules. I know a catch is a catch but legally speaking the ball touched the ground first before he gathered it back in, no matter the slightest of margins. Replay confirmed that.
If you could somehow explain away how the officials also blatantly missed all the holding, facemasking, and pass interference the Vikings were committing all game long, that’d be great too. Otherwise, thanks for playing and good luck with the rest of your year!

But you didn't ask a question!
You scoffed and dismissed my argument away with an unrelated remark and now you’re being defensive about being called on it. It’s called a fallacy (which you clearly have no familiarity with), and it isn’t winning you any points here.
How is responding with a quid pro quo counter being called incorrect?
by Jepp The Viking on Oct 24, 2010 11:52 PM CDT up reply actions
Whoa, someone's using Wikipedia!
Unfortunately, a quid pro quo counter is still a fallacy in this case considering Woodson has nothing to do with everything else I brought up.
And furthermore, it’s not even a quid pro quo because I brought up several points about the original topic (the officiating, as you might recall) and all you counter with is focusing on Charles Woodson and his supposed PI.
You questioned an OPI
I brought up someone on your team notorious for DPI. Simple.
by Jepp The Viking on Oct 24, 2010 11:57 PM CDT up reply actions
No I didn't.
“all the holding, facemasking, and pass interference”
I never specifically mentioned whether it was offensive or defensive. Frank Walker was grabbing Jennings’ jersey several times, including on the interception. Even the commentators made note of it. Last I checked, Walker played defense. Moss is infamous for OPI so I won’t even go there, particularly because he got called for it. But the Clay Matthews holds? Facemasks? Missed blocks in the back on the return? There were several issues with the officiating tonight, really on both sides.

One good call TD, and one TD that might have missed
The Shiancoe incomplete was a correct call, he had it in his hands as he dived, but the ball hit the ground-his hands weren’t under the ball-as he landed. That is usually called incomplete.
Quarles bobbled the ball on his back out of bounds. Probably should have been reversed.
Your head couch COULD HAVE challenged the Quarless TD, but didn't so that's on you...
The Shank TD, I’ll give you; I didn’t see anything to overturn that one.

Had to give it to Bishop
While Jones deserves credit for the first quarter alone, none of the receivers deserve it based on their miscommunication with Rodgers. But primarily I wanted to give it to a defensive player because that’s what won us the game. Offense did what they could, but the defense held in there and won the tight game.
Plus Bishop also had the deciding points with the pick six. Major props. Looking forward to seeing Barnett/Bishop in the middle next year.
yeah............
wasup with all the miscommunication? Maybe AR isn’t right yet since the concussion? I mean, can all those receivers be wrong? And, AR is known as money in the red zone and 3rd down. Today he has TWO picks in the red zone. The game shouldn’t have been close.
by bigbill992001 on Oct 25, 2010 12:01 AM CDT up reply actions
I started laying blame on AR after ball #4 sailing nowhere near a receiver.
That wasn’t miscommunication, that was Rodgers forgetting the route. Thankfully, his head cleared up by the 4th, but I was getting worried for a quarter there.

With 3 really bad non-calls for facemask, headshots on Rodgers, I wish McCarthy would have said something. Maybe it would get the NFL officials to watch more closely.
Hmm lets see
Favre throws key interceptions which play a role in them losing another big game, Childress rips Favre, Favre seems testy after the game, they’re 2-4 and looking up at the Packers AND Bears.

Unless you live in SFV
it’s not your city. LA is a 1000 cities looking for a downtown. And downtown itself is a cesspool.
… hey, I grew up in LA, and most of my family still lives there. I can rag on it.
Last time I was in LA
I saw topless porn stars at the pool, pissed on a drug dealer’s car, and bullshitted my way out of having to pay for parking at the DGA. Fuckin’ fantastic time.
Again, though – couldn’t find any chili verde. Anybody have any suggestions?

Actually, since you're from here you'd know that Los Angeles and not the SFV is quickly becoming the new "pornography preferred" shooting area.
All the lofts and new downtown living and party areas are the favorites of Gonzo film directors.
You should come back and check out how much downtown has changed and not make yourself sound like a bitter ex-resident. Apparently living here is good enough for the rest of your family, right?

I actually went back just last year
around New Year’s. Checked out the whole “urban renewal” going on in downtown with the fancy lofts and whatnot. It’s admirable but there’s still a lot of work to do. My brother, an LAPD officer with Rampart division, took me around there and not more than a block or two away from the gentrified areas was very destitute.
I’m not a bitter ex-resident; on the contrary, I hated moving from there to Miami. I live in the Pacific Northwest now though, which I love far far more than anywhere else I’ve lived.
Ya should try Alaska. :)

by I voted for Kodos on Oct 25, 2010 1:29 AM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
Actually, no. With our NBA stadium being privately funded by Dr. Buss and Staples, school alumni and "boosters" paying our college athletes and.....
another soccer team (Chivas Mexico) helping fund the Chivas USA team, none of my tax dollars are being spent.
See again, when you live in a real, Metropolitan city and not some burgh, there’s plenty of private money to be spent on recreation like sports.
The NFL is the only one wanting to get city and government funding to build a stadium and bring the NFL here and that’swhy it’s been continually voted down.
See? Now don’t you feel more informed and no longer coming of like an uninformed and inknowledgable blogger?

This is 2010...great thing it is a new year!
Otherwise asking how many Super Bowl trophies the Vikings have would be relevant now wouldn’t it? But that is a sore spot for most fans of that team and I don’t go on to DN to say stupid shit like that.
What is sad is when someone who has no stake in this game at all as a fan comes and tells people who are bitter rivals how to act…
What is sad is when you have no posts that a relevant to this team since 2009, basically they are all some sort of mocking us instead of providing some insight.
And no it isn’t sad when a 4-3 team beats a 2-3 team when they are division rivals. Stop acting like a douchenozzle and start posting something of substance rather than how we should act as fans. What you are doing is essentially trolling.

No there is no opining...
You haven’t said anything that is of concern to this team. You are just ragging on how us as fans should act. We don’t need you etiquette school.
Your words don’t hurt me. I wouldn’t be in a profession that I am in if words would hurt. I am just baffled as to why someone who tells us that this is just a game would care so much how we act as fans. I come here to interact with people here about Packer related material. I don’t claim to be the best fans in the world, but it is just a nice thing to get instant access to people who want to talk about Packer stuff.
So yes I am going to flag you as a troll, and hope that Brandon takes action on you. You have yet to provide us with anything insightful. You’ve basically told us how to act.
There are plenty of differing opinions that I disagree with in a civil manner. I just disagree with pompous people who mock a fan base without giving any substantive measure of fact or reason. You claim you want to study fans…laughable…
So maybe people who are proud of their team is too much for you to take? Maybe reality is giving you a tough time and you need to let out on someone else? Anything else you want to accuse us of? Would love to hear it, because you just spin everything.

I voted for Jones
I was really happy to see him make some of those tough, important catches he’s capable of making. really helped us out, I hope that builds his confidence. But O Line was probably the MVP. So nice to watch Rodgers play with time. I think he’ll get a couple games here now without an INT
I believe the game ball should go to...
the practice squad d-lineman. Wynn and Wilson looked very good all things considered. Other than that I say Clifton/the Line or Collins. Fun fact, look up Clifton’s career stats against Allen, good times. (I believe it’s 4 games 6 tackles either 0 or 1 sacks… baller)
I cannot believe how well Wynn did
It’s not that he played Pro Bowl caliber D, but he did his job quietly and well. Every time I saw him in on a tackle, I got a grin – way to go, man!
"Who ever heard of the Cubs losing a game they had to have?" -Frank Chance

And CJ wilson
the other rookie Dlineman , 2nd on the team with 8 tackles. But Wynn had a 1 sack and 2 QB hurries and I think 6 tackles. not bad at all.

Yes, and had the Vikings come back it would have been all about how Clay Matthews was being held on every play and the referees were letting the Viking DB's get away with murder.
The “bitching” here would have been the same.
The Vikes would have been given NO credit for the win and all the crying (I’m still amazed that Packer fans STILL haven’t gotten over it yet) over Brett Favre would still be going on.

So stop lecturing us on how to be “fans.” We get it. The Packers won, the Vikings didn’t. Brett Favre is not here, we have Aaron Rodgers. Again, we don’t need your soapbox speech. Just say your peace instead of trolling. And everything you wrote is “soapbox,” “moral superiority,” and feigning some outrage. You do this every time you come here, and nothing you say is anything of substance to our team. It is usually just bashing Packer fans and generally acting like a big douche.
I don’t care about the past so much, well maybe those Super Bowl trophies, but we won tonight and that is pretty much all that matters…
So whatever you want to make up, right?

Why do Vikes fans act like winning the past 3 was such an amazing feat?
I normally don’t comment on anything (I usually just stop by when I wanna kill some time and catch up on the pack), but after seeing/hearing something about the Vikes winning the last 3 in a row for the billionth time this week (I live in the Twin Cities so you can imagine the crap I get for being a Packers fan) I had to say something. Why do Vikings fans find winning 3 in a row against the Pack so impressive. That equals a season sweep and a season split, which as far as I’m concerned hardly counts as domination over any team. Now if you have sweeps of a team across multiple seasons you can start to make claims about dominating them, but if your honest sweeping a team one season and splitting with them the year before isn’t really anything that special (yeah it’s nice, but probably not something to brag about as much as Vikings fans have been, particularly when they still didn’t really win anything of consequence other then the division because of it).

You can't be serious, right? You don't understand why Vikings fans would be "celebrating"? Typical of a Packer fan.
The only thing that makes those 3 wins and 1 loss significant is Brett Favre. That’s what this is all about. And all the bitching, moaning and hand-wringing that Packer fans have done over the 3 straight losses to the Vikings and Favre should tell you all you need to know.
A season split, blah, blah blah…… whatever you want to call it, the Vikings have owned the Pack since Favre arrived and that’s what it was all about.
Easier to figure out now?

We don't understand celebrating three wins in a row
Unless they’re divisional playoff, conference championship, and Super Bowl. Which is something the Vikings fans have not experienced, so they must celebrate what they can.

And much like Celtic fans, Packer fans come off even worse than "never-wases". You're "has-beens".
You do realize that the Packers have won exactly ONE Super Bowl title since 1968, right?
That would be 1 championship in 42 seasons. And the one you got was with the current QB of the Vikings.
Just another in a list of fans still crowing about ancient history as teams keep passing them by in relevance.
If anything you should thank Favre for keeping the Packers relevant these past 2 seasons. This year ou’re just another team in the middle of the pack at right around .500, friend.

Because unlike any other wins
The Super Bowl winner is always remembered. It cannot be taken away. And I thank Favre for helping Reggie White win us that Super Bowl. But I don’t see how Favre has made the Packers relevant the last two years. Parity has made everyone relevant the last two years. Am I right Chiefs fans?

Like I wrote, Favre has made you relevant because you're part of HIS story.
You got thumped 3 times in a row by his new team.
Packer fans incessant whining about how he “betrayed” you (my jilted, sad ex-girlfriend analogy fits perfectly here) and desperate hopes to defeat him and the Vikings is GREAT theatre.
Face it, you’re 2nd fiddle in his show. Would a .500 team like the Packers be getting as much pub this season if Favre didn’t play you twice this year again?
Puh-leeze.

Favre is a Viking. They just lost to the Packers. They seem to believe that lack of flags was a reason paired with poor officiating. They are the ones actually doing it.

I would check your facts again
See the Vikings with Brett Farve have only played the Vikings three times period. If you are including the “three times in a row” theory then that first of the three times Farve played in NY at the time. You know when he was sending pics of his junk to sideline reporters.
I know those petty things like facts get in the way of a nice point you are trying to make, but I just wanted to point that out for you.

Fine, let's talk recent history
As you’ve pointed out, in this particular rivalry, the Packers are now 1-3 against the Vikings in their last 4 games. That doesn’t reflect well upon the Packers, and it reflects even more poorly when you think that 2 of those losses were orchestrated by our previous QB. I can’t change that.
What I can do is celebrate being 1-0 in our last 1 game vs. the Vikings and then get all misty-eyed about 1967, 1968, and 1997 and hope that we can build a team in the near future strong enough to compete with those guys who were playing when LBJ (with a minor side-order of Bill Clinton) was president.

Favre with the Jets in 2008
You no remember?
Exactly
Only two have been with Favre, and the previous was a season split like I said. It hardly seems dominant. If the Packers win at the dome (pushing their record against the Vikings to 3-3 in the post-Favre era) do those three straight wins still mean domination? It is just a ridiculous argument. As far as them only winning one Super Bowl since 1968 that’s true, but that’s one more then the Vikes (they also played for another and had regular playoff appearances), so as far as I’m concerned in my 22 years I’ve gotten to watch a pretty damn successful football team. Yes, I give Favre credit for helping us achieve that. At the same time he’s been a colossal tool since leaving and went to a rival, so I’m pretty sure I have the right to be annoyed with him. Finally, since you decided to bring up this year, yes we’re sitting right around .500 which looks a lot better then slumming it at 2-4.

Funny thing here...
…they are mad that Mathews removed his helmet on that one play WHERE THE VIKING PLAYER SHOVED TWO HANDS ACROSS HIS FACE. OHHH so the refs should call a penalty on Mathews for throwing off his helmet but NOT on the Viking who shoved his hands up Mathews face, for the FIFTH penalty on Mathews that wasn’t called?
HAHHAHAHAHAHHA they are INSANE.
Yeah
I think by that point Matthews was just pissed off that they were mugging him on literally every play without getting called for penalties. If a guy keeps shoving your helmet off your face, you’d take it off too. Nothing like the Vikings resorting to goon tactics to stop the NFL’s best pass rusher.

Had no idea what station.
When i got back to where I know they were talking about every game.

The Packers 2010 season
has probably taken a few years off my life with all this damage to the heart.

SF Giants plus Packers Football this year =
one very sad and damaged liver.

Aspirin ain't a problem
It’s acetaminophen, naproxin, and ibuprofen that kill your liver. Aspirin just eats your stomach lining.

I keep on top of these things
Ain’t no such thing as dialysis for your liver, and lord knows I put mine through enough shit. Last thing I need on my headstone is: “He had a headache.”

Damn....
Son, when you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose : it's how drunk you get.
I'm rooting for the Giants
I liked they way they looked all year.
Great story.

Bunch of goofballs
that are playing their best ball at the right time. I love this team for so many reasons. Mainly Huff Daddy and our Rookie son of the Virgin catcher.

Buster Posey is a beast.
I think that dude is an amazing catcher. The thing I admire about him is that he played catcher in college (he was a SS) because they didn’t have one.

And picked it up like second nature. Sorry to bring Giants talk to APC. This has been a great weekend for me.
1. Got a much over due vacation with my wife and kids,
2. Giants go to the series,
3. Packers stop the losing streak by beating the Vikes and Favre at home.
Smells like…… victory.

LOL who cares!
At least you are talking about something positive! I wanted a Rangers/Giants World Series (sorry Yankees10), because I thought it would be nice to see something different.

I'm still a little bitter that Posey is a shoe-in for NLRoY
Because that’ll just push Starlin Castro that much further down. I anticipate a 4th place finish for him, after Posey, Heyward, and Strasburg. Hopefully, Colvin gets in the top 10, too.

It will be
Heyward, Posey, Castro. Strasburg was good but got hurt. Castro is amazing. Heward gets it because he played the full year and more voters know him then Posey, even though I think Posey deserves it.

Ummm
If the voters don’t know who Posey is, they shouldn’t be voting. :)
But you are probably right, it will probably go to Heyward. I would rather it go to Posey because I believe catcher has a premium attached to position. That is how I would vote.

For the record
Starlin Castro also hit a HR in his first MLB AB. And it was against a division rival in their house, too.
6 RBI in MLB game #1 is a hard act to follow.

Heyward was good and got hurt, too
Only Posey and Castro played the entire season (well, after Castro got called up, that is). I’ll still put the Cubs’ platoon “I’ll play him when I damn well feel like it!” (thanks, Lou!) 20HR OF up against the Braves’ starting RF who managed 18 HRs between his trainer visits any day.
Bitter? Oh, a tad…

Posey was a call up also.
I don’t like it but Heyward will win it. The guy is good so at least it’s not a how could he win it sort of thing. Tough class this year, NL looks very much improved.

When did they call him up?
It seems that I’ve been hearing about him since June – is that about right?

I think so
He was on the team last year but for 16 gaes I think. They traded Molina and handed him the starter gig but he was called up before that.

Well, y'all *did* have the crappy Molina
Gotta remember, we Cubs fans have fond memories of rookie catchers that finish out seasons for us. We called up Geovany Soto in 2007, benched him in those playoffs, and then watched him win RoY in 2008. Good times.
Until the playoffs, of course.

Clifton
He HAS to be in this list. MUST. He was brilliant out there, Allen was a complete NF with the exception of crazy INT.
Viqueen fans, want some Wis. cheese with that whine?
At least they’ve stopped whning about the refs cheating for the Saints in the NFC championship game……..
Actually
the whining goes on. And they talk about not wanting cheese around here! Which pretty much explains why their sandwiches are always a little bland.

Voted Bishop
But how bout some love for BJ and CJ holdin the Dline by themselves. I know they gave up a lot of yards to AD but they had some key plays toward the end.
4 DL, 3 LB is called the 4-3
3DL, 4LB is called the 3-4
2DL and 5LB is called the 2-5?
Can Capers run the 2-5?
He usually runs a 2-4-5 (our nickel formation). Don’t have any numbers or anything but if I had to guess, I’d say we’ve lined up in the 2-4-5 probably more than 50% of the time. I’d love to see more of our base defense but it’s hard to do that when you only have 2 or 3 DL healthy in the majority of your games.
