Washington Post: Will Favre Start Next Sunday?
As I wrote recently, I can't imagine how Brett Favre will be able to start next Sunday, but at the same time I expect he'll be too stubborn to come out. From my article at the Washington Post.com, here's a look back at the last time I expected he would miss a start:
The last major injury he played through as a Packer happened in 2007 when he hurt his throwing elbow and separated his left shoulder against the Cowboys, and, of course, he started their next game.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised
either way, to see him play or sit out. I think the Chilly PC afterwards shows that hes not happy w/ Brett and everything, plus the who Penisgate thing, and this injury, it just seems like now might be the time for him to kinda take his step out and be done w/ the game for good.
With that said, I expect that if he’s not retired by like Thursday or so, to see him out there next week making errant throws from a combination of poor decisions, and an inability to put any pressure on his fractured heel (and just any announcer, he’s loves throwing off his back foot)
I think it’s best for him to step aside and say he’s done and he tried to come back for the team and everything but his body just can’t hold up. I think that shows that he was there for the team and not himself (to a point) and lets him save a little face. If he keeps going out there and costing his team games, then that just furthers his selfish image imo

He'll probably play.
From what I understand, this injury is still manageable with some treatment (ie: meds) and an ankle brace. His mobility will be limited, of course, but I didn’t think he was very mobile to begin with. The only cause for concern would be does he want to risk making it worse, which I don’t think will bother him much.
I hope he plays and does not get hurt further.

I kinda hope he plays and gets the absolute BEATING of his life w/o being injured permanently!
You've been Stroh'd!!!
Ike: Brett Farve’ll get no sympathy from me!
You can't be serious, man! You cannot be serious! His foot was on the line! It was ON THE LINE! He was clearly out! How could you possibly call him in!?

I was half-listening
to the radio and Cowherd said that Chilly was going to sit him — to “protect him from himself”
"False start: the whole offensive line." -Hocculi
It might be in Favre's best interests to sit
if he thinks he might actually get suspended. I doubt Favre wants to be remembered as the Iron Man Whose Streak Was Broke Because of his Penis.
If he doesn’t think he’ll be suspended, then expect him to play. Unless Childress tries to wrest back control of his team by benching Favre for a week or two. Minnesota has so much talent it’s not like they can’t win with T-Jack – who took the Vikings to the playoffs before Harvin and Moss and before Edwards and Greenway had emerged as playmakers. He doesn’t look pretty doing it, but he can win games.

Yeah, but
breaking his streak because he got too old and tried to get fruitless revenge on his former team, who then broke his ankle in return, doesn’t look too much better.

Brett Farve
Sounds like a bitter combination.

I don’t think he’ll get suspended. Sterger didn’t release the pictures and texts, the guy from deadspin did. She’s been uncompliant with the NFL’s probes. I suspect she was paid some hush money and forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement. This will quietly slip away. Personally, I’d like to see him suspended, but I don’t think it will happen.
I don’t see Chilly as being man enough to bench Favre. He’s talked about pulling him several times now and yet hasn’t done so. As I’ve said before, to criticize Favre for throwing INT’s is like complaining that water is wet. He had to know what he was getting himself into.
TJack could hardly do much worse.

You think Assistant Coach Childress will try to regain control of Minnesota? Seriously?
No way head coach Favre allows that.
I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

Not sure
What the vikes will do… But on a really bum ankle and behind a porous OL he was already getting pounded on pretty well. With a broken ankle and heal it will limit his mobility (or lack thereof) even more!
As much as I like the idea of his streak being ended by the Packers, I almost like the idea of him continuing to get PUMMELED on even more!!! Can you just imagine the utter beating he would take w/ NO mobility whatsoever?!! LOL
You've been Stroh'd!!!
He has no mobility
He’s going to get the cr@p kicked out of him this weekend. The Patriots are lethal at home in the regular season, they have young LBs and a good DL rotation.
Their secondary, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the Wisconsin Badgers. Except for Devin McCourty, who was one of the most astonishing first-round selections of the last few years, they struggle in pass coverage. Patrick Chung was hurt in the Chargers game, and he’s their best coverage S.

either that...
or he tosses up like 6 INTs to avoid getting clobbered. I believe that the Bishop pick 6 was the result of pressure from a play or two previous. I think Jones (?) hit him pretty good.
St. Louis playoff loss level performance if he plays…..

Predicting Favre's stat line if he's dumb enough to play that game:
4 for 20, with 8 INTs and 3 lost fumbles
Devin McCourty one-ups DeAngelo Hall’s performance from Sunday with 4 INTs of his own.

How awesome would it be if Tavaris told the Vikings and their fans
“You wanted Brett, now you got Brett”. I know this would never happen seeing as it would be dumb for a guy like Jackson to waste an opportunity to prove himself but it would be highly fitting seeing as how this organization and it’s fans has basically taken a giant crap on him despite the team making the playoffs his first year and only year starting. Now after all the calls for Brett Favre and even Sage Rosenfels, they want Tavaris in thinking he might possibly save their season that their supposed Messiah seems to be willingly flushing down the toilet.
Have to agree.
Honestly…the Vikes wanted Brett so damn badly. They wanted a FORTY YEAR OLD beaten up, broken down legend. And that’s what they’ve got. Now suddenly the steroid injections and painkillers aren’t able to keep him upright and they change their tune. It’s funny, really. The puppet strings of modern medicine will eventually break and Brett will go crashing to the turf for good.
"False start: the whole offensive line." -Hocculi
Sigh
Again with the steroid allegations? We’ll talk about it once there is some supporting evidence on the table and not when it’s just idle speculation.
Towlieppan: "You wanna throw high?"
Not "pump you up" roids
Steroid injections into his joints to keep them supple and mobile.
"False start: the whole offensive line." -Hocculi
Cortisone is a steroid. It’s no secret Favre’s been taking the cortisone injections. What’s interesting was the comment I read yesterday to the effect that Favre could play on that ankle if it was injected with long-lasting local anesthetic. I find it odd that the NFL allows that treatment.
After the game
his foot falls off.

which begs the questiong...
what is a “performance enhancing drug” to begin with. That seems like one, but they arbitrarily draw a line.
That’s why I’m in favor of legalizing all performance enhancing drugs.

Meant this is a response ...

I agree that it’s best to not ban any substance. Too much energy is spent trying to uncover the ones who break the rules (Williamses?), and it probably puts those who are scared of the league at an unfair advantage. There’d probably develop two leagues, though—one for users and one for non-users.
As long as we’re talking about good ideas that will never be enacted, I think the NFL should drop helmets and pads, or at least reduce them significantly from their current levels. If the hitter felt as much pain as the hittee, we might not see guys throwing themselves around at opponents heads.
The problem with not banning any substances IMO
is not at the professional level, but at the high school and college level. These kids emulate whatever the professionals do, and would in all likelihood be more likely to put chemicals in their bodies with the rationale “Hey, if the NFL lets their players do it, why can’t I.”
Towlieppan: "You wanna throw high?"
You cannot be SERIOUS
…hard to work up McEnroe type outrage when the Packers beat the Vikings on the same weekend that the Bears lose and the Cowboys get embarrassed in the home stadium on MNF, but…
Here goes:
Players are already too big, strong and fast. With legal ‘roids… They would be literally killing each other. I, for one, would stop watching football. At that point, it would cross the line from “sport” to “bloodsport.” But maybe that’s okay with you, I don’t know.

Isn't the correct answer "who cares?"
The Vikings are going to get beat on Sunday whether or not he plays. That team is too top heavy and too dysfunctional to go on the road and beat the Pats.
But it would be ironic if it was the Packers who snapped his consecutive games streak, wouldn’t it?
Sweet, delicious, irony.
Yes
honestly there’s a bit too much talk about one particular non-Packers QB on here. We knocked Kolb out but once the game was over we weren’t spending front page articles wondering whether he’d start against the Lions. If he’s iffy coming into week 11, let’s revisit the issue.

I think
we just got so used to living and breathing Brett Favre that we can’t help ourselves. Packers fans know him better than anyone, period. It’s only natural for us to wax philosophic about his comings and goings.
"False start: the whole offensive line." -Hocculi
Kolb wasn’t starting for our division rival.

Jay Cutler is though
where’s his post when he was out against the Panthers?
Just saying, I was glad when we got rid of Favre in ’08….I want to actually be rid of him as a Packer fan, not be continually obsessing over his every idiotic overture.

One thing that we must all remember,
After Favre hurt his elbow and shoulder in November 2007, he had a week and a half until the Packers played a then-weak Oakland team at Lambeau Field (who they clobbered 38-7).
This time around, he’s got a short week and the Vikings go on the road to New England (which is never an easy place to play). Will he play? I suppose I’ll have to wait until Sunday afternoon to find out.
I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

shameless play for sympathy
Peter king has an article at si.com in which a orthopedic doc says the ankle injury is nothing but a “glorified ankle sprain” that the Viqueens are manipulating into something much worse. He implies that you don’t have to be Superman to play with that injury.
I think that they’re playing the “healing miracle” card to get everyone fired up for the Hoodie.
Or Chilly is going to use the injury to his advantage
and bench Favre because of the injury. He said that after the 3 picks, Brett was “one bad drive away” from being benched. So it’s somewhat reasonable that Chilly wants #4 on the bench and I don’t think he would just straight bench him but if he’s “too injured to play” well that would just work perfectly.
If you don't know the cadence of GO PACK GO your opinion doesn't matter
