Sunday Night Open Thread: Steelers at Saints

NEW ORLEANS - SEPTEMBER 09: Drew Brees #9 of the New Orleans Saints warms up against the Minnesota Vikings at Louisiana Superdome on September 9 2010 in New Orleans Louisiana. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

I don't know how much of this game I'll watch, but the Steelers always get good ratings so I expect a lot of people will be watching. The Steelers are dealing with some injuries, including the annual loss of DE Aaron Smith and a hamstring injury to LB LaMarr Woodley. It could cause some problems for the Steelers pass rush and help the Saints passing attack get back on track. The Saints only have 12 sacks on the season and are probably hoping a pass rush shows up tonight to slow down Big Ben.

Joe Buck is really a lame baseball announcer

He’s got a great voice, but he says absolutely nothing of substance, and only tells you stuff thats obvious. I like him better as a football announcer.

Tim McCarver is worse.

That “His beard is natural” remark came as Joe Buck was trying to call the final out of Game 2. Unbelievable.

He had to tell everyone that a Texas player’s beard was “natural” as the San Francisco Giants finished up a shut-out of the Rangers.

Honestly, Gates is the worst mod possible

If DN is ever going to be healthy again as a SN site, they need to replace him. He kills any sort of intelligent debate because there’s a side that doesn’t agree with him. Yeah, you need to ban trolls and spammers, but you can’t ban people because they don’t agree with you.

Which is why I love APC… Sometimes things get heated, yeah, but it’s normally pretty intelligent and people debate issues and topics, they don’t take personal shots. I’m content to stay here and never guest-post and DN.

So, random question

Even though I live in Green Bay, I’ve never been to a game in person (despite being a long-time fan) and I’m thinking about dropping the bones to pick up some tickets on StubHub to see the Cowboys game next sunday night. Do games really live up to the hype? If they do, I’ll probably buy the tickets, but it seems almost like a fantasy the way people talk about the games.

You know, everyone makes a big deal of how pass-friendly the league is

but I think defenses around the league are adjusting to that and the running game is becoming more important again. Offenses haven’t fully made adjustments to the d’s yet, and so it’s been kind of a weird year for offenses around the league. Today is an example of that.

Don’t get me wrong: the league is more pass friendly and run friendly, but I think the needle is beginning to swing the other way, even though it’s still pretty deep in the pass game.

Then again, I’m also a pretty casual fan. I’m not a scout or a coach, I don’t know it all.

Rashard Mendenhall, I still despise you with a burning passion.

For all the crap we give Wil Wheaton, he can still tackle better than Asante Samuel...

Goodness, that was a gigantic play by the Saints for the first down.

Puts them right back in field goal position.

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

Possibly hiking up Mount Marcy during the weekend of October 23-24. State high point count: 3/50

There it is.

Baseball really needs for this to be a 7 game series

there’s no excitement in the world series anymore. thats why people don’t watch. Back in the 60s and 70s, a 7 game series was the norm. I’d rather see the giants win in 7 than the rangers in 4 (even though I’m a nominal Rangers fan, but not interested in the Giants at all)

As pretty much exclusively a football fan anymore

I wanted it to be a sweep (by either team).
So now, I want it to end in five – and be over and done with!
IT’S FOOTBALL SEASON!!!

There’s a helluva long list of more serious issues than that, that are the main reasons why most people don’t warch, or care, anymore!
