Washington Post.com - New Season For The Vikings?

Here's my latest on the WR Randy Moss trade. From Washington Post.com:

And Moss doesn't help them with their other immediate problem: their next four games are brutal. At the Jets, home against the Cowboys, at Green Bay, and then at New England. Can the Vikings contend for the Super Bowl? We'll know for sure after their next four games.

Will there be thunderous applause

if the Vikings somehow manage to lose all four of those games in overtime?

I'm just glad Scott Tolzien didn't go all Drew Tate on Nick Toon and whack him upside the head...

Results Inconclusive

I think they split those four games and leave us wondering about it until the playoff picture is clearer.

Brandon...

First off, kudos for being published in the Washington Post, but when you say:

Also, what the Vikings really needed was a receiver who could run the slant routes through the middle of the field, which is where Rice excelled last season.

I have to disagree with you there. They needed a true #1. Moss will now open up those routes for Harvin and Camarillo. Let’s face it, Berrian scares no one, and both he and Harvin have been playing out of position. Berrian is a decent #2 who moved to #1, and Harvin is a natural slot guy who has had to play primarily on the outside, which I think accounts for a lot oftheir struggles. Now they slide down, Moss is added in and he’s a guy that must be accounted for, and you just opened up all the underneath routes for Camarillo and Harvin, a la Wes Welker in New England.

You were spot on about everything else, though. If the Vikes come out of this part of their schedule 2-2, I’ll be happy, 3-1 I’ll be giddy, and undefeated I’ll be even more unsufferable than I usually am. Ask OBSIMH, he’ll tell you. :)

I think I agree. Rice’s biggest impact was stretching the field and pulling safeties back away from the middle of the field so percy and vinsanthe could do their damage (along with Chester and AP)

which is exactly what they got Moss for.

Both Rice and Moss hold the same value for Minn! Both are deep threats that open the field and provide a playmaker for Favre. Berrian is a joke and not even a decent #2 WR. Poor hands, poor routes, and taken out by Press at the LOS.

Rice and Moss are very much the same WR!

Farve v. Big Ben

I read that the NFL is looking into the Farve sexting allegations. Who’s the bigger pig, Bert or Ben?

Maybe they can get together for a remake of A Night at the Roxbury.

Don't underestimate Moss

He’s still freakishly talented, and will be motivated to play since he’ll almost certainly want to go elsewhere next year.

He’s the kind of receiver that could help Favre when he gets in the mood to throw way deep and hope someone with the right color hat comed down with it.
