Thursday Open Thread: Ravens at Falcons

ATLANTA - NOVEMBER 07: A general view of the Georgia Dome before the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on November 7 2010 in Atlanta Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

This looks like a pretty good game to watch, the Falcons are only favored by 1 over the Ravens, assuming your cable company isn't at war with the NFL Network. I'm expecting the Ravens to win because I don't know if WR Roddy White is truly healthy. SB Nation's coverage is at Baltimore Beatdown and The Falcoholic.

In all honesty,

I don’t like the Thursday night (and occasional Saturday night) games being on NFL Network. I wish they could go back to being on Network television and have several games on Saturdays once college football ends in December.

NFL Network

just doesn’t put on a very good production. Plus, they lose thousands of viewers because their cable companies charge for the channel.

by Prince Fielder is Skinny on Nov 11, 2010 7:44 PM CST up reply actions

Yep.

I usually don’t even get NFL Network on my Dish Network package. I occasionally get it, but it’s only during football season that I can watch it.

I noticed it had come back just a few days ago.

I remember the Vikings-Packers game on NFL Network a few years ago (Tarvaris Jackson in December 2006 in Green Bay), and I was in Milwaukee visiting relatives at the time. Thank God a network channel (I don’t remember which channel) carried the game on local Milwaukee stations, or we wouldn’t have been able to watch the game (my relatives were still using an antenna if you’ll believe it).

The day of the game, there was a story in the Milwaukee Journal about people struggling to find places to watch the game. I can understand showing games on your network (NFL showing games on NFL Network), but to actively prevent people from watching the games is Bud Selig-esque.

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

All NFL games are broadcast locally, including MNF and Thursday games.

Maybe they were still getting the kinks worked out back in 2006, but you can be sure local affiliates in Atlanta and Baltimore are airing tonights game.

It's looked pretty dull

Millen and Theismann announcing? Yeesh. I haven’t been able to watch, just following the game online.

I’m surprised the Ravens can’t get the Falcons offense off the field. Falcons 8 for 12 on 3rd down. The Ravens defense has got to step it up. Though the Ravens offense needs to do more too.

I’m neutral on the Ravens, so I wouldn’t mind if they’d win to help with Packers getting home field advantage.

It wasn't so bad

Jones-Drew and Randy Moss for White and Felix Jones. I’m a big enough MJD fan to accept the coach killer in a trade (plus I did need another WR). I think White has outplayed them both so far, but reuniting the Collins to Moss connection that led the Raiders to a 4-12 record should be a huge boost (just kidding). I still like the trade, even if it hasn’t worked out yet.

White’s taller and has been successful without any other big targets on his team

by Mr. Saturn on Nov 11, 2010 10:01 PM CST up reply actions

Good question

A few weeks ago I’d have said White, then Austin, then Jennings a distant 3rd. White and Austin clearly ahead because they are their respective team’s offenses. But since Finley and Driver injuries, Jennings has done even better. Now there are more passes thrown to him. I wonder if he’d be right at White and Austin’s level if Rodgers didn’t normally have so many other good to great receivers.

by Brandon on Nov 11, 2010 10:02 PM CST up reply actions

I think so. It seems like he produces when he’s more of the focus.

by packallday555 on Nov 11, 2010 10:06 PM CST up reply actions

I think we underused him a bit early on. I realize the talent Finley is but it seemed like everything went through Finley in the offense, which I think takes Jennings out of the game to a degree.

by packallday555 on Nov 11, 2010 10:08 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah but,

That can be worse though because when guys on your team stink, most defenses will cover the #1 like a cheap suit and let the other Wr’s beat them. They have pretty much done that to Reggie Wayne this year, he gets targeted a lot but the safeties and even linebackers in short yardage situations will double him.

No way

Austin’s much better than Jones or Nelson. Those guys have disappointed me somewhat, though my expectations were probably too high.

by Brandon on Nov 11, 2010 10:13 PM CST up reply actions

Austin’s better than Jennings imo. When Austin had Romo he was going off pretty much every week.

by packallday555 on Nov 11, 2010 10:14 PM CST up reply actions

I'm talking on the field

Jennings had been pretty unspectacular this season. Weeks 2 through 5 he had no more than 3 catches for 36 yards in any of those games (though 2 TDs). Since Finley’s been out, Jennings had less than 6 catches in a game. He’s been the focal point of the offense, and he wasn’t before Finley was hurt (and Jennings wasn’t producing anywhere near White or Austin).

Austin was a monster in 3 of the first 4 weeks, but he’s been stinking it up over the last four games. His only good game in the last 4 games was against the Jaguars awful secondary.

Isn't that the punt formation?

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

Possibly hiking up Mount Marcy during the weekend of October 23-24. State high point count: 3/50

Falcons defeat Ravens 26-21.

Called it! I had picked Atlanta to win beforehand.

You had one up and you didn't tell me?!?!?

ARGH! I’M GOING TO STROH ALL OF YOU!!!!

Seriously, that was a great game. Michael Jenkins and Roddy White were unbelievable on the final drive.

Beat Northwestern, Michigan, and Indiana, THEN I'll talk Wisconsin in the BCS. But not until that happens.

What a game...

One of the best I have watched all year!!

What made it even better is that Flacco and White helped me build a BIG lead on Stroh in the APC FF league!! :-D
