Sunday Night Open Thread: Patriots at Steelers

FOXBORO, MA - DECEMBER 9: Coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots shakes hands with Coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium December 9, 2007 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The Patriots won 34-13. (Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images)

I don't go out of my way to watch either the Patriots or the Steelers, but this looks like a pretty good game. The Patriots defense "was really overpowered" last week by RB Peyton Hillis and the Browns. The Steelers probably aren't in any position to do the same since they just lost starting LT Max Starks to a season-ending neck injury (they had already lost starting RT Willie Colon before the season started).

Well, shit

I’m obviously crap at predicting stuff today – I got my ass handed to me in my pool today.

Just a pick-em

No point spreads or anything. I normally dominate in the NFL and do so-so in the college picks, so I was excited as hell to have gone 12-3 in yesterday’s games. Not so excited anymore – I got brutalized.

Yeah, the late games were not that nice to me today.

Of the four games (KC-Denver, Dallas-NYG, Seattle-Arizona, and St. Louis-SF), I only got one game right.

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

Same here :(. How can one know that the Broncos aren’t going to decide not to suck, that the Cowboys are going to play up to their talent (I mean seriously, that NEVER happens!), and that the Texans were going to lose to the Jaguars (who I was pretty positive didn’t even have a defense)? I got killed. I’m at a low 48 points now, which is pretty embarrassing. The guy in first is only at 68 though, so I suppose I’m not doing terrible in comparison to others.

And on top of that, I had to make all my picks by Thursday night due to the Thursday game. Of course, I didn’t realize until last minute that I needed to do this, and as a result picked the Lions to win assuming that Stafford would play. Just stupid haha.

That's my predicament, too

Everyone did equally bad. I lost a little ground, but not nearly as much as I could have. Big day of upsets all around.

Yeah, that’s what mine is like too. Only the first place guy in our pool must be some sort of robot or something. He was like 45 points ahead of the guy in second place. Somehow, some way he never seems to get bitten by the injury bug like the rest of us do.

Last week
LSU: .8170
Stanford: .7454 (.0716)
Wisconsin: .7349 (.0105)
Nebraska: .7298 (.0051)

This week
LSU: .8243
Stanford: .7553 (.0690)
Wisconsin: .7258 (.0295)
Nebraska: .7203 (.0055)

Change in BCS Average
LSU: +.0073
Stanford: +.0099
Wisconsin: -.0091
Nebraska: -.0095

Parentheses are the difference between that team and the opponent just above them.

8 team playoff

WITH the bowls, as set up.

8 vs 1
7 vs 2
6 vs 3
5 vs 4

The winner of the 8 v 1 and 6 v 3 games faces off in a semifinal bowl game, as does the 7 v 2 and 5 v 4 game winner. The winners of the semifinal games face off in the title game (which already exists). Sound fair?

So for instance:

1 Seed 1 Wins
8 Seed

4 Seed 4 Wins
5 Seed

3 Seed 6 Wins
6 Seed

2 Seed 7 Wins
7 Seed

So with my plan…

1 Seed play 7 seed instead of the traditional 1 Seed vs. 4 Seed. Now, the 4 Seed plays the 6 Seed. Like the NFL.

Talk about your uneducated fan base. Those people have absolutely no idea what exactly they’re cheering for. They just go because it’s expected of them.

What the hell is going on with the Steelers defense? I felt so sure when making my picks that the Steelers would beat the Pats. The Patriots just lost to the Browns, have been getting gashed in the run game, and their offensive line has been somewhat suspect. The Steelers are supposed to have this great defense, and deadly pass rush. They’re also supposed to have a good running game! So far, I’ve seen neither.

THE WAY TOO FK'N EARLY PLAYOFF PICTURE

I don’t really care about tie breakers except for the only one I know—Us vs. the Bears. Then we have the two games, Steelers vs. Patriots and Washington vs. Philly. I will assume New England and Philly wins. We would rather Washington win though.

AFC
North: Baltimore (won over Pittsburgh)
South: Indianapolis
East: New York Jets (won over NE)
West: Oakland (won over Kansas City) LOL WTF!
WC1: New England 7-2
WC2: Pittsburgh 6-3
Outside looking in:
5-4 teams: Miami, Tennessee, Jacksonville, Kansas City
4-5 teams: Houston, San Diego

NFC
North: Chicago (won over Green Bay) :(
South: Atlanta
East: New York Giants (no games vs. Philadelphia)
West: Seattle
WC1: Green Bay 6-3
WC2: New Orleans 6-3
Outside looking in:
6-3 teams: Philadelphia, Tampa Bay
5-4 teams: none
4-5 teams: St. Louis, Washington

I really don’t know about the tie breakers for the NFC right now. I just made that crap up. But this will be fun discussion!!! YEAH!!!! STROHING!!!
