Packers Game Ball: Packers Embarrass Vikings, 31-3
Wow, I certainly wasn't expecting that. I thought the Vikings would show up to play, but they checked out after the 1st quarter. A lot of players were great for the Packers, but a couple guys stood out statistically. On offense, QB Aaron Rodgers (it's hard to remember that he had a bad 1st quarter) was a monster, and WR Greg Jennings was unstoppable. On defense, I'm going with the two guys who created turnovers, CB Charles Woodson and CB Tramon Williams.

Tough choice
but I went w/ Greg Jennings… he came out on fire and looked good all game long
Had to not go w/ a defensive player when they hold the Vikes to 3 and really odd not voting for CM3, let alone not seeing him on the List of options

Deceptive stat line
Not to take anything away from CM3, but that sack was of the 2010 Jared Allen variety. But he did make some plays and put pressure on Favre, so it’s balanced out by the pressure he put on the O on other plays as well. I think he’s to the point where the mere threat of him changes what you can do on offense and how you gameplan, and there’s no statistic available for that. So he gets one sack credit for a sliding Favre but gets no “hustle” or “disruptive” play stats. I guess it evens out.

One concern
is that Belaga seemed to struggle on the turf. Here’ s hoping it’s a rookie thing. But Edwards got him on the edge more than once.
Surprised at Colledge holding up so well.
Double surprised at the clean game. This crew only called the most egregious penalties which is about what you should do in the NFL. GB tippy-tapped He Who Shall Not Be Named up near the head a few times and I have seen other refs throw the flag. HWSNBN was certainly looking for the flag on two of those hits. Good for the refs not tossing the cheapies.
I think
A few of those were the RB not picking up the extra guy coming from that side. Bulaga can’t block two guys at once.

Man, IF
Rodgers is getting hot then the NFC is in big trouble. Dude seems to have sputtered most of the season but last few games has had 2009 mojo.
After that dubious first quarter
And about half of the second. Once he flipped the switch (and the O-Line started getting him some time), he was damned good.

I commented on MM's improved play-calling on the first scoring drive
A couple of short completions, including a WR screen, seemed to give Rodgers the rhythm that he had been missing before that. And all of a sudden, Rodgers was finishing plays regardless of the pressure on him. He took a couple of licks, but the results speak for themselves.

MM was very good today
He kept them focused when they looked bad early (particularly the O-line and Rodgers). And even though it didn’t work I liked the reverse to Shields on the punt return. I also liked him spreading out the O more – the Vikings’ defensive weakness is in the backfield, so he made them put more D-backs out there and it worked.

Yanno...
I kinda think Dimitri Nance looked pretty credible in his minutes out there. Reminds me a little of a Jerome Bettis kind of runner. The Vikes are a tough team to run against (even in a slump) and he powered through a few bodies out there.
Anyway, I picked Jennings. That second TD was the dagger; took the starch right out of them. Once he got clear, you could see the Vikes’ defenders just give up.

Jennings because of TD #3
That was all him, and that was all dagger.
And by TD #3
I mean team TD #3, not personal TD #3. ANd it’s nice that I have to clarify that.
And in non-Jennings TD news
How about that James Jones one-handed catch in the end zone? Awesome to see that, especially from Jones who can be kind of inconsistent.

Great game packers
I called it., I knew you’d blow us out. How did you guys deal with Favre for 17 years? I would have shot myself in the foot. Aaron Rodgers is a great QB. I’m expecting an Eagles – Packers NFC Championship this year.
Good luck the rest of the year
I say that because I don’t want to see the Vikings move out west. If you can finish up 8-8 I think that helps your chances greatly.
As much as I like to rag on the Bears and Vikings
I’d hate to see them leave. Also, at this point I think I’d rather see them beat the Giants, Eagles, and the Bears. I can never really root for the Bears to beat anyone, but I can root for the Vikings to beat other teams. Hopefully T-Jack comes in and wins those games. I can only imagine what kind turmoil that would throw the coaches, fans, front office and owner into.

When you talk team history, no team matches up to the Packers over the entire span of the NFL. At least Bears fans have a championship to counter our talk. But when you talk history with a Vikings fan they get so bent out of shape you wonder if they’ll ever come back to normal.

Vikes fan would have no wories...
if Minneapolis natives could own shares of the team like they do in Green Bay. None of that Art Model schtink going on with the Packers. That, by the way is reason number two that I’m a fan. (1. Cultural football landmark, 3. Always tries to field the best team since 1992, 4. Only the Oakland Raiders contribute less to national politics, 5. Rodgers
Swept the Vikes and won in the dome…something that took years for Favre to do.
The only downside here
is we won’t get to see Favre blow his third NFC Championship in four years.
But that aside, a lot of credit has to go to this team for pulling together like this. To have that many guys get injured and still play at a high level, it shows the toughness they have.
Also, Ted needs to lock down Tramon right now.
Tramon

Need to go with Rodgers.
I don’t know when the first time Favre had a 141.3 rating in the dome, but it had to have been well after his third game.
However, I don’t like CBS’ halftime highlights from this game. They talk about how great Rodgers was today, and then cut to Favre’s postgame conference. It will be nice next year when we can beat the Minnesota Vikings twice instead of having to play the Minnesota Brent Favres.
That being said, huge team win today. I gave the ball to Rodgers because of his stat line, but the whole team deserves it. They didn’t just beat the Vikings, they annihilated them. Hopefully, this gets Childress the boot.
I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

We don't, but
it is inevitable, between now and the start of the next season (whenever that is, haha), so, we might as well hope for the pleasure of seeing Wade and Chilly get the boot after their losses to us.
As for me, I’m of the opinion that the Vikes [Yikes!] have shot themselves in the foot at the quarterback position so badly that they are not going to be much of a factor for at least the next three to five years.
In addition to which, whoever does end up as their QBOTF is going to get thrown to the wolves sooner than later and won’t have the advantage of sitting and learning ;) from an established vet, so the odds for his overall success will be questionable, at best.

Had to go Aaron
For these reasons…
1) Sweeping the Vikes
2) Settling the offense down after the first quarter
3) Handling the noise wonderfully
4) Those TD’s were a result of Aaron’s accuracy. (not that jennings wasn’t a factor)
5) 144 QB rating!
6) Not being Brett Favre
I'm not really sure why any Viking fans want Frazier as a head coach
I think he’s been exposed as a poor coordinator. His defense relies entirely on the pass rush from the front four, but with that gone, teams have torn apart his vanilla schemes. He makes no adjustments to compensate for this and the Vikings defense continues to look bad.
because
They are drowing and Frazier is the closest thing they’ve got to a life preserver.

Double Agent
maybe this is part of some scheme with TT where Brett goes there…chokes away their best chance and then tanks it forcing the team to rebuilding clearing the path for a decade of dominance for the Packers! :-)
You know...
A lot of people are looking at the Packers as the underdog @ Atlanta next week. I say… bullshit. Their signature wins are @ the Saints (27-24, in OT) and the Thursday game vs the Ravens (26-21). The Pack’s signature wins: 27-20 @ the Eagles (Vick played most of the game), 9-0 over the Jets (at the Meadowlands), and the two Minnesota games (pretty much everybody picked against GB in both games, and the media openly roots for brent farve). So, if anything, Matt Ryan and Co. have something to prove.
They're definitely good enough, all-around, to be the favorites, especially at home
But they won’t be favored by much
I think the teams are pretty evenly matched
But the edge goes to Atlanta because it’s in Atlanta.

We’re facing a very good QB this week though. I’ve watched Matt Ryan play this season and he has been very sharp, especially down the stretch against the Ravens.
Their defense gives me hope, though. They allowed the Ravens right back into the game with 21 2nd half points, and if Rodgers can pick apart their secondary, the Packers might leave Atlanta with a huge W.

It's @ Atlanta
Isn’t Matt Ryan 18-1 @ Atlanta? That’s simply remarkable. Unfortunately, that gives us a challenge. I don’t think people around the league realize how big this game is. This game could very well determine who is the front runner for Home Field Advantage in the playoffs. If we win, we have the tie breaker on both Philly and Atlanta. If Atlanta wins, they are 2 games above us with the tie breaker. This is a HUGE game coming up!

Somebody's gotta knock the Falcons off their perch.
It’d be nice if it was us, but it’ll be a nailbiter of a game. Our D is going to have to run on all cylinders stopping their aerial assault, and A-Rodg I’m sure will have no problem picking apart the Falcon’s DBs, but it’s their offense that scares me. Especially the way they came back in that game against the Ravens.

The Ravens defense in that game
reminded me of the Packers’ defense in 2008.
Flacco and the offense score to take the lead in the last two minutes (1:52), then the defense snatches defeat from the jaws of victory by letting the other team march quickly down the field for the game deciding touchdown.
Guess Flacco isn’t capable of winning clutch games, haha.

I agree with you.
His playcalling has improved a lot over the beginning of the year. Earlier, it seemed the Packers were lackadaisical in the second half of a lot of games (see the game at Washington as an example) but lately, they’ve been playing with a lot more intensity and drive, especially since the first Vikings game.
Not only that, but guys aren’t getting injured every week. What this means is there’s now a set group of guys out there playing week after week, and they’re getting used to each other and complementing each other while on the field.
Nowhere is this trend more pronounced than on the defense. Ten points allowed in three games. I couldn’t ask for a better performance from them. The offense, admittedly, looked bad against the Jets three weeks ago, but with the defense playing lights-out, all the O had to do was gain some position and they would be given a chance to win.
The Jets game reminded me very strongly of the Dallas game last year. Packers had been all over the place, and the defense got their act together and carried the Packers to a huge upset win. It happened in November 2009 against Dallas, and it happened three weeks ago against the Jets.
I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

Disagree
The offense, admittedly, looked bad against the Jets three weeks ago, but…
I said then that that game was not a case of a great performance by the Packers’ D overcoming a bad performance by the Packers’ O; rather, it was really a case of a great performance by the Packers’ D overcoming a great performance by the Jets’ D.
In short, it was the Jets’ D, which is really only slightly less than the Packers’, that made the Pack’s offense look bad that day.
