Washington Post: Cowboys Out-Disappoint The Vikings

My latest post at the Washington Post is my take on which team is the bigger disappointment: the Vikings or the Cowboys. It was inevitable that Brad Childress would be fired once he put Brett Favre ahead of the team. But at the start of the season, I would have never predicted that Wade Phillips would be fired mid-season. That's why I said the Cowboys were the bigger disappointment:

My team, the Green Bay Packers, has drawn the distinction of seeing their opponent's head coach fired within one day of a blow-out loss in two consecutive weeks. It wasn't just that one loss that led to their dismissals. It was a culmination of events. But the timing both announcements surprised me. If they made it this far, then why not wait until the end of the season?

Just my opinion

but I haven’t been disappointed with the Cowboys’ and Vikings’ seasons whatsoever. I don’t think I could ask for more of them if I tried. Okay, maybe just one Favre-Moss shouting match would have been great, but really, what more could you ask of the Vikings this season?

An 0-10 record?

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

Possibly hiking up Mount Marcy during the weekend of October 23-24. State high point count: 3/50

Nah, you need hope alive

for a while to make the inevitable failure more hilarious. If they were 0-6 to start the season they never would’ve traded for Randy Moss, and we never would’ve gotten to see it blow up so ridiculously.

You mean

their head coach wouldn’t have been an utter idiot and sacrificed a 3rd round selection for the Patriots, leaving Randy’s salary on the team for all intents and purposes?

Beat Northwestern, THEN I'll talk Wisconsin in the BCS. But not until that happens.
For all the crap we give Wil Wheaton, he can still tackle better than Asante Samuel...

more to ask of VIkes?

How about if they bench Favre or better yet release him!!! That would certainly make my year!!!

Yes

Verrrrrry disappointing that they haven’t done so, yet. :)

Another intangible here...

Cowboys are hosting the Super Bowl… The whole hype surrounding that alone makes their season a bigger disappointment …..

But, I have to tell you, this Viking implosion came at really the worst time, given that whole “stadium thing.”

I'd say the Vikings

One play from the Superbowl a year ago. The ink on Chilly’s extension was hardly dry. PackFaninFL’s comment was good, too, though. It’s a toss-up.

One thing’s for sure, though. If you’d shown me this blog post before the season started, I would have absolutely done a quiet little fist-pump with a “yes” under my breath.

The Vikings and Cowboys are both humiliated before the season’s half over. I can watch the Packers, completely at peace, for the rest of the year. Good times.

Did anybody else read that Yahoo article...

Where the genius (Phillips) compared himself to Tom Landry? Now THAT is concrete proof that the man is clueless.

by mike_o on Nov 23, 2010 6:53 PM CST reply actions

Um, didn't Landry win the Boys a couple of Super Bowls?

Wade Phillips has barely had a winning season at the helm of Dallas, let alone 20. The guy is really off his rocker.

He was comparing winning percentages, which technically was true

He does have a slightly higher winning percentage, but still………come on. One coached for 28 years, went to 5 Super Bowls and won 2 of them.

The other coached for three and a half seasons, went to the playoffs twice, and won one playoff game.

But yeah, pretty comparable……

Off topic

but Brandon, you’ve gotta get a different mugshot for your Washington Post blogger articles.

A Rod looks better than ever! This team is doing effing great these days! With almost zero running game! Nothing but up to go from here. Just a few weeks ago and people were writing this season off, due to the multitude of injuries. Have faith my friends, all will be well for those who believe!

Why fire your HC in the middle of the season?

I think it can be boiled down to a simple adage:

“If you want a change, make a change.”

For the Cowboys and Vikings, this was made (a lot) easier by the fact that in both cases, I think it was pretty clear Phillips and Childress had lost their respective teams.
