Thanksgiving Open Thread #3: Bengals at Jets

A late November game in New Jersey at night? Brilliant scheduling. And it might be raining.

The Bengals secondary has so many injuries that two wide receivers might be forced to play at defensive back. Maybe the weather will cause problems, but even QB Mark Sanchez should be able to have a big game against a couple of wide receivers turned cornerbacks. Also, the Bengals have lost seven games in a row. Is there anyway the Jets don't win?

More on this game from Gang Green Nation and Cincy Jungle.

That rain hitting NY could hit Vermont starting at midnight.

And we’re under a winter weather advisory starting at midnight and lasting until noon tomorrow.

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

Coulda been worse

We could have been at the GF’s sister’s house. I miss her nephews, but it also means dealing with her step-mother. It wouldn’t have been as bad this time around, but I’ve got a pretty sour taste in my mouth after the last few encounters.

My problem with her is that I lived in the South for 17 years

The art of making someone feel small through the use of words and gestures is finely-tuned and known to many down there. I learned my lessons well, and even had an exceptionally good time spoofing those gestures with others who understood that craft. My main problem with her is that she is utterly artless. She believes that she is being sly, but every single thing she says to me is transparently ugly. She has no idea of how to select her words to belittle someone without also opening herself up to extreme derision.

If you’re gonna be an acid-tongued granny, then do it. If you’re gonna smack someone with an iron fist wrapped in a velvet glove, then do that. If you’re no good at either, then keep your gob shut, FFS.

Got 4.2 of it today.
Lost most of what we had before, when it rained the past two days, before turning back to snow overnight last night.

If there's one thing I can say about our defense

It’s that it’s taken (public, media) pressure off of our offense. I thank them for that, because last week our offense feasted on a vanilla defense that was focused on keeping Rodgers contained. Our defense hit Favre over and over again in the first half, and reaped the benefits therefrom in the second.

Ladies and gentlemen, we may have discovered the secret to keeping teams on their heels. Hit ’em hard and hit ’em often. Even if you get a flag for it, just hit ’em. Making ’em think twice in the 2nd half makes it sooooo worth it.

This This This This

I couldn’t agree more if I typed in all caps. If you beat up that quarterback it’s worth a penalty (early in the game). If you don’t, the elite QBs will eat you up in this league. Last year the Saints took a Lombardi Trophy home with a mediocre defense because they terrified QBs into making mistakes.

This Jets team is not as good as their 8-2 record suggests.

They have sleepwalked through the last few weeks, getting lucky on screwups by the other team (Detroit) or looking dead against them (Cleveland), or just simply getting very lucky (Houston).

Sooner or later, the luck the Jets have is going to run out.

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

But anymore those are the ones that swallow their whistles just as much for the non-preferred team as they do for the preferred one. Honestly, we don’t need a narrative in the NFL. Transparently making it into the NBA is not helping your cause, Goodell.

This "watch online on nfl.com" is odd

They show the game sometimes, but they took about fifteen minutes out just to talk. When Brad Smith returned the kick, they mentioned it and THEN showed it. I should have gone to channelsurfing.net or atdhe.net. Oh crap, now they’ve cut away from the game again.

Also, if Revis is just an average CB, and he’s shutting down Terrell Owens, does that mean that Owens is just an average WR?

Did you get some of the snow we got (in Fargo) earlier this week?

Sorry your cable system doesn’t carry NFLN. It’s not great, but at least I can watch 6 games a week now.

Got some snow

But I like skiing so I’m okay with that. It’s all these Vikings fans that drives me crazy.

Watching online (don’t have cable). I’m in the process of switching over to channelsurfing.net. The analysis is nice, but I want to watch the game, then the analysis. Not watch the analysis, hear about what happened in the game, and THEN watch it.

We got rain earlier in the week.

Pretty much all day, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Turned back to snow last night.

Your systems affect the Yukon Territory afterward

If Wisconsin is lucky, the crap that rolls through here gets pushed south. If not, well, then it’s a frigid, snowy game against the Giants.

Palmer looks terrible

If he stops going to training camp and starts taking control of his team he’s the next Favre. As long as he gunslings it and acts like a kid out there, just doing it for the love of the game.

Forgot one thing

TD? Run around the field.

Interception? Grab an elbow/ankle/chin, whatever works.

Well, I went with the favorites in these games in my pick-em pool, and I wasn't disappointed

I kinda wish that the best game of the three wasn’t the Aints vs. the Cowboys, though.

And for any of you who give a shit

I’m gonna have to take my show on the road this Sunday, so I’ll miss out on all y’all’s insight and snark. Frickin’ Vikings playing at the same time as the Pack…
