and then we will get an interception by Chuck

makes no sense
packers team doing everything they can to lose this game..reminds me of the first 6 games of the season not the last 4..inexcusable play calling from the 3 yard line after driving the field by passing the ball and inexcusable by rodgers for not holding onto that ball..and MM going MIA on two challenges after challenging everything else under the sun all year long..a lot of football left we can do this if we dont stop beating ourselves! LETS GO PACK
Let's not doom and gloom
You guys are down one score in an insanely evenly matched game.
And you get the ball to start.

I am positive!
Teams will make mistakes, ours and theirs. Just have to capitalize on theirs and minimize ours. So far our mistakes are pretty big, but I am confident we can pull this out.

I got nothing against the Falcons
but I’m going to call it right now that the Falcons lose their first playoff game in the divisional round. They’ve gotten so many breaks all year, it’s bound to catch up with them. This is not a great football team.

53 Bears, 1 Cup

Oh they're good
thats why they’ll get home field advantage. But teams lucky in the regular have a tendency of losing at home in the divisional round. Think the the 2003 Chiefs or the 2005 Bears.

Not completely true
The Saints of 2009 were one of the luckiest teams I’ve ever seen, and they won the Super BOwl.

by SenorChuckles on Nov 28, 2010 1:26 PM CST up reply actions
Toward the end of the year though.
I thought they were a good team in the first half (which doesn’t matter much) and got lucky toward the end. Again I think there is a cycle of luck.
by Bush League All Star on Nov 28, 2010 1:26 PM CST up reply actions
Come on
Blaming other teams wins on the refs is just as bad as blaming our losses on refs… You still have to play the game, and you still have to take advantage of the ref miscues.
You don’t get to 8-2 without being good
by Goldenarmadillo4 on Nov 28, 2010 1:22 PM CST up reply actions
To be fair...
I don’t really think he is saying that the refs are the cause. Just saying they are getting breaks. Semantics, I know, but there is some difference.
by Bush League All Star on Nov 28, 2010 1:23 PM CST up reply actions
Yep he's saying that all the luck has gone their way
And that luck usually goes in cycles. Hopefully theirs runs out by the end of the season. Luck involves more than just the refs. Look at the lucky bounce they got on the Rodgers fumble.

just happened to bounce back into the end zone?

Their effort
knocked the ball loose, and caused it to move around, and lead to them recovering it

and they’ve also gotten alot of breaks, not just in this game, but throughout the year.

That play was well called by the refs
As we learned from Michigan St.-Notre Dame, after the play clock runs out, you’ve got to look back to the ball, see that it’s not snapped, and then call delay of game if it hasn’t. Not enough time for that to happen in that case.

is how both teams don’t even look close to being a Superbowl Contender.
You know what,
we SHOULD have won that game. Reminded me a lot of that 4th and 26 game in Philly. We had opportunities down by the goalline but screwed it up way too much.
Bottom line, we take care of business inside the 10, we win that game going away.

I disagree.
We couldn’t stop Turner when we needed to. That goal line stand should’ve been huge, and we blew it on fourth down. You can’t point at one particular thing and say well if this went differently, we could’ve won like with the 4th and 26 game (which we lost more for Favre’s lame duck in OT that everyone CONVENIENTLY FORGETS ABOUT).
Oh I remember that
That was when my Favre-hate began…
maybe the 4th an 26 was a bad comparison
But you can’t deny that if we score touchdowns when we get down inside the 5, this is a whole different game
"Coach Gundy, why was Oklahoma able to march right down the field against you?" --Erin Andrews
by dishingoutdimes on Nov 28, 2010 2:59 PM CST up reply actions
Sure
and we could’ve tried to stop Turner and gotten more of a pass rush in the second, and cover Gonzo better, and and and…
Bye Bye
Home field advantage… they should have it through the playoffs now.
Is playing at Lambeau in January really all that good for our offense?
I’m just hoping we can keep it away from Chicago at this point.
ATL is getting the #1 seed this year.
I don’t think there’s any question about it now. Philly might challenge, but they’re still a game behind.
I'd rather be in an enviroment (hostile or not)
that plays to our strengths… Cold weather is for running the ball which we can’t do

how Slocum still has a job as the ST coach is beyond me.

just out of curiosity..cuz stats are stats your right and yes he struggled early in his career but as of late your telling me those losses are his fault?? how about the stat about our defense with the lead or the tie late in the game? losing on a last second fg on all 4 losses this year is really rodgers fault? i guess against washington he threw that pick but that was a missed personal foul as it is. i just dont get what more people want out of the kid
and dont get me wrong
that fumble absoultey killed us..but what more do you want him to do..he cant play defense or special teams lol

Point out of stupid it is to say Matt Ryan is more “clutch” than Aaron Rodgers. Aaron has had special teams fail him many times since he became the starter. But when people write articles about it, it’s ALL about how Rodgers can’t get it done. It’s BS

Well, I am not happy with the outcome of the game...
But I figured this would be one of our losses at the end of the year. We have SF at home and Detriot on the road coming up, so things can change. Nothing at all to be pissed off about (well we lost so be somewhat pissed), but we played tough.

its a miracle
slocum still has a job..it was a matter of time before it literally cost us a game and it did today..all said and done we played very well after having to overcome our own stupid mistakes and playcalling in that first half..just a shame that we couldnt even get to ot
SILVER LINING
we play the 9ers and Lions next. We SHOULD be 9-4 after those games. If we aren’t then I’ll be pissed.

I can honestly say that the AFC is going to win the superbowl. Green Bay cannot run the ball and they still almost pulled that off on Atlanta’s weak defense. And what about Matt Ryan’s epic drive from his 50 yard line that led to a game winning field goal. ( ( ( end sarcasm ) ) )
Maybe I am talking crazy but it seems like this team has too many holes on special teams and with our running game.
There's also the theory that maybe... just maybe
Atlanta has a really good front 4 and are really good at stopping the run
by Goldenarmadillo4 on Nov 28, 2010 3:06 PM CST up reply actions
I think the offense is ok with how Rodgers has been running the ball but the special teams are just too bad. We can’t even consistently cover a kickoff. That’s like pee-wee football type stuff.

Any game where you lose by a FG you can take any single area and point to it as a cause
Losing by such a small margin doesn’t require you to look for much
yes but our special teams have been consistently bad

Yeah, they have been terrible. I think it has hurt us that we can’t run the ball at all but we’re still able to sneak by because of how good Rodgers has been as of late.

that no single play cost us this game but that at the end killed us..u can point to plays in any game but if your consisently bad week in and week out regardless of wins or losses dont u think something should be done?
exactly
there’s no way Slocum should still have a job

Yes I do, and I hope something is done. Slocum has consistently fielded a terrible special teams unit for 3 years now. And I don’t think it’s the players considering how many back-ups we’ve had step in and play very well. He has plenty talent to field out there.
by packallday555 on Nov 28, 2010 3:12 PM CST up reply actions
i think i can make a argument that special teams really didn't cost us this one.
they played poor but we missed plenty of opportunities elsewhere.
It cost us. Field position was huge in this game.
by Bush League All Star on Nov 28, 2010 3:07 PM CST up reply actions
Meh.
We had a better 3rd efficiency than the Falcons. Yes it could have been better, but I don’t think they were as big as our ST failures.
by Bush League All Star on Nov 28, 2010 3:10 PM CST up reply actions
The goal line fumble took a minimal of 3 points off the board
the 4th and goal conversion by Altanta hurt, the 4th down conversion earlier in the drive hurt… the lack of a running game hurt… you can’t blame this on ST alone
by Goldenarmadillo4 on Nov 28, 2010 3:10 PM CST up reply actions
There have been bad ST gaffes in every loss
but there’s also been poor execution in other aspects of the game… Miami had the lining up over center on the punt… but our O was absent that game… Chicago had 18 penalties in all 3 aspects… Yes ST is not our strong suit… but you can’t single handedly pin any loss on just them
by Goldenarmadillo4 on Nov 28, 2010 3:08 PM CST up reply actions
Look, once again
I’ll say it. The Falcons are very good, but their record is a little inflated from all the breaks they’ve gotten this year. The circumstances are pretty close to our 2007 season. We were good, but we probably weren’t 13-3 good.
"Tragedy is what happens to me. Comedy is what happens to you." -Mel Brooks
As a DBirds fan, I'll disagree there.
In every game where we had gotten a ‘break’, the opponent also had a few breaks. The only one that sticks out tremendously is against the 9ers. We should have beaten Baltimore by 14, the Saints by 10, and Tampa by like 30.
by VenomySnicket on Nov 28, 2010 3:09 PM CST up reply actions
I agree w/ you
Luck is something you create by hard work and good play… The only real break was the goal line fumble… that was casued by their hustle
by Goldenarmadillo4 on Nov 28, 2010 3:11 PM CST up reply actions
The spot on Rodgers slide was a lucky break too but who knows if that would have mattered had they given him the 1st down.
by packallday555 on Nov 28, 2010 3:15 PM CST up reply actions
Agreed.
They got a couple of breaks this game, which helped them out a little. I’m not overly concerned or anything about the loss. If Rodgers doesn’t fumble that, I think we probably win but who knows. Either way, we know we can play with them, and really anybody in the NFC.
by packallday555 on Nov 28, 2010 3:10 PM CST up reply actions
If Rodgers doesn't fumble
there’s no need for that awesome game-tying drive from him towards the end, maybe.
We should’ve challenged on the ensuing possession, that’s for sure.
That was at the end of the 1st half
no telling how the second half plays out if that doesn’t happen

The Saints last year were a very, very lucky team but they were also very, very good and well-coached to boot.
The Saints luck
came in the form of lots of timely turnovers… again, that’s the result of hard work and good play

I'm surprised at how unworried I am at this game
Here’s why:
1) There are no elite teams in the NFL this year. The Falcons are the class of the NFC, and the Packers just hung with them in Atlanta.
2) All four of the Packers’ losses have now come on last-second FGs. We are the only team in the NFL that hasn’t been beaten decisively by anyone.
3) Aaron Rodgers is the real deal. Even in two-minute-drill time. He’s a stud. One of these times, the defense/ST won’t blow it for him.
4) If home-field advantage goes to Atlanta, that’s about the least intimidating place to play out of any of the top NFC teams.
2) All four of the Packers’ losses have now come on last-second FGs. We are the only team in the NFL that hasn’t been beaten decisively by anyone.
Yes. Exactly. I DO think we need to win decisively the next two weeks to get our swagger back. 49ers will be on a short week and the Lions are still the Lions.

On #2
Good teams close out tight games. We cannot do that consistently, at least we have not done so up to this point.
Would you rather lose close or get blown out?
Because everyone’s lost a few so far. I agree that good teams close games out, but I’d much rather be the loser of four close games than four blowouts.
by Cheeseandcorn on Nov 28, 2010 3:36 PM CST up reply actions
Blown out
I’d like to be definitively the worse team than the team that can’t figure out how to get over the hump.
Close games teach you a lesson
IN a blowout, you can just say that we had an all around bad day and blah blah blah and not really learn anything.
You lose a heart-breaker in the final seconds, and people will look at be more critical of their mistakes and hopefully not make the same one again

1/3 of our games this year have been close losses
I’m not positive we’re learning that lesson.

Playing great is only great if you’re consistent/mistake-free. You can “joga bonita” all day and score a couple “golazos” but three mistakes is likely to give you that 3-2 loss, and that’s been part of the Packers’ problem.
