Fantasy Football: Packers Travel To Detroit In Week 14

Cbssports

QB Aaron Rodgers. He's on a roll (9 touchdowns in three games since the bye week), playing indoors, against a lousy pass defense. Can you think of a reason he shouldn't start?

WR Greg Jennings. See Rodgers above. He's caught 5 of Rodgers's 8 touchdown passes over the last three games, and averaged 131 yards/game. Even a recent foot injury hasn't slowed him down.

Packers running back. I was debating whether to start RB James Starks this weeks. He got 18 carries last week and he's playing the Lions, but against the 49ers it was a three headed fantasy nightmare with RB Brandon Jackson on the receptions and FB John Kuhn earning the short yardage touchdowns. Can you trust starting any of these guys?

Packers defense. The Lions haven't committed a lot of turnovers (6 fumbles, and 13 interceptions) while only allowing 22 sacks (with LB Clay Matthews still hobbled with a bad shin). Not a lot of opportunities for fantasy stats, although they're playing great and should contain the Lions offense overall.

Packers wide receiver. See the last three game stats after the jump. Who should it be alongside Jennings? James Jones, Donald Driver, or Jordy Nelson? Who will have the big game this week?

Driver

Is a great play this week, IMO… In fact I would be tempted to start him over Jennings if I had both on my fantasy team. Packers are going to want to get him fully integrated into the offense again w/ the stretch run and playoffs looming! The fact he’s been out for weeks gave more opportunities to Jennings, but the Packers may want to tip the scales toward Driver, to make it harder to double Jennings down the stretch. Driver is in for a big game IMO… Looking for a 7 rec 100 yd and at least a TD, maybe 2…

I thought he should have been benched for Jones?

My reason for not starting Rodgers

would be that I also have Vick vs the Cowboys weak D. Still haven’t made up my mind.

I have Vick and Rivers!

Nobody wanted to step up and offer a trade that was worth it to me to give up either of them! BTW, I happen to be in 1st place by 3 games! Made Rivers available but I would have to get back something that was going to significantly improve my team and nobody was willing. One offer was all I got… And I was considering it before he withdrew…

Trade them?

What incentive would he have to help other teams in the league? Playing keep-away with the league’s talent. I like it.

Bennett Talks about Starks speed
Remember 2007 when Ryan Grant would bust off a 70-yard run every couple of games. That terrified defensive coordinators and forced them to play eight-men in the box. In talking to running backs coach Edgar Bennett this week he mentioned that he would like to see Starks get into the secondary because he could take those all the way. I sort of raised my eyebrow because I question whether Starks is that kind of runner. Bennett was adamant. “He’s sub-4.4,” Bennett said. “Trust me, he is.”

I think there are only 3 packers worthy of being played for FF at this point: Rodgers, Jennings, and the packer D. Aside from them, everyone else (RBs, TEs, and WRs) are all to inconsistent to know which one to play at this point. Driver is on the cusp of being playable again though and after this week, we might know a little more about the RB spot too!

Starting Starks

I’m starting Starks in both my leagues (one being the Acme Packing Co league) as a flex. This could be a breakout game for Starks or he might not see the ball at all, but if he gets a 40 yard TD this week, I want to be there. None of my other options really screamed at me, so I decided to hook my wagon to the Packers.
