With the help of ESPN's NFL playoff machine I was able to figure out that there is a very plausible scenario in which the Packers would finish with the same record as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-6) with the 6th playoff seed awarded to the team with the harder strength of schedule. Basically, a Packers win over the Giants in week 16 would be greater if the Giants beat the Vikings tonight. Even though the Packers beat the Vikings twice already, Tampa Bay doesn't play the Giants or Vikings. Therefore a Vikings win tonight could potentially knock the Packers out of the playoffs.
If you would like to see this scenario yourself use the playoff machine on ESPN.com and create a scenario in which the Packers lose to the Patriots and beat the Giants and Bears. Then, have the Eagles win against the Giants in week 15. Have Tampa Bay lose only to the Saints in Week 17. Now go to week fifteen and switch back and forth between the Giants and Vikings. Notice how the Packers are the 6th seed with a Giants win and out of the playoffs with a Vikings win.
This scenario is far more likely than one in which a Vikings win would help the Packers.
Because you need a law degree with a minor in statistics to figure out the NFL playoffs ESPN has done it for you. http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine
